Thanks for the helpful information. I removed a large tree in my front yard, and after grinding the stump, it left approximately an 8 foot diameter bare spot. I was considering seeding with Kentucky 31, but as you describe the blade color, I like the darker blade on Scotts. Your test is so interesting, and it's helping very much. If I'm not mistaken you have another video that I'm planning on watching, but it would be interesting to see how this experiment ends. I also like the taller growth of the 31. Thanks again. By the way, I live in the Rockford, IL surrounding area. I'm hoping either one of these products will work fine in the cold winters and hot summers of the Midwest.

I love k31 it isn't as brown patch resistant and I suffered a bit of that in my lawn. I put down 200 lbs of uncoated seed last year and im putting down 100lbs this year. however i am changing it up a little bit and I'm seeding with white dutch clover as well.

Here is the update video. My wife and I also considered dutch clover! (what a coincidence). We considered it mostly for the drought.

very helpful video. thank you !! I just over-seeded my entire lawn with the K31, then read some reviews that it is not meant for lawns and does not look good compared to other fescue blends. well from what I saw in your video I have to disagree, I actually like the light color and for the price difference, you can't go wrong. I also know K31 is more hardy and tolerates drought better than others. the only thing is you may have to mow it more often and you have to keep the mower blades sharp, which is okay. I would appreciate it if you can share updates of how it looks like now in the pot and on your lawn. thanks again !

Hey, no worries. I will provide an update on where the lawn is in the next week or two. Right now the grass is definitely nice and soft, lime green. However, I wonder if it is because it is still baby grass. I am curious how it will be in the spring.

I have made a mistake to grow k31 bought from Home Depot. It germinate fast and grow very fast! After doing some research, I killed all of them with Roundup and grow new Johnathan Green Black Beauty ultra and it looks much better. Don’t grow k31 grass seed at your home! You will regret.

Any reason you did not compare Jonathan green Black Beauty original and ultra and solar green. I would like you to see if the Jonathan green seed comes up better or not vs Scotts! Thanks

The Scotts looks more lush? Is that fair to say? What is the percentage of weed seed in these products? Thanks

Wise man Kentucky 31 is pretty grass and it.s stuff like walking and playing on where fine fescue won.t take alot trafficking.Color wise Green Up or Milorganite will darken it up.

its been a year. so did you do it? do you like the K31? i had clumps of it in my backyard, so ugly. I sprayed round up to get rid of it. Im going with Scotts Rapid tall fescue. im in NNJ, so in July and August, was about 85-95 everyday. i want a grass that is drought tolerant, and nice for my son to play on. K31 is too rought and doesnt really grow up, it grows diagonal, well mine did. almost like it was crabgrass.

@@Turf_Tips nice update. Unfortunately that ky31 will not stay that soft nor will the blades stay that size. You should see the leftover k31 in my backyard that’s about 4-5 years old now. It’s so wide and coarse.

How soon do you mow? My lawn has grown but in some spots its grown alot slower should I still mow if some of my lawn is 3inches and 1inch?

I've noticed that the Kentucky 31 grows really fast. This is the first year it is fully grow in my lawn.. still mow once a week and I mow my lawn high (3inches to 3 3/4). Kentucky 31 does outgrow other parts of my lawn but its only noticeable at the end of the week. The Scotts doesn't grow tall, I have no issues with height on that fescue.

Kentucky 31 is meant for feeding animals cows horses it has a wider blade and it grows an olive color green and it does not darken in color no matter what you do I do not recommend it for lawns

For the love of God please keep away for K31. It's a weed in lawns and more used for pastures my dude. Best of luck in all you do and may you and your kin be forever blessed.
