    FYI, from my understanding, it takes a couple of years for the RTF to start to spread. I am putting it down in my yard as well. I live in a much hotter climate, Las Vegas Nevada and my land is partially shaded and partially full sun. I am hoping that it can take the desert heat. Good luck with yours. Have you heard that this spread sooner or faster?

      I think you are correct that it takes some time to spread. Even then it only spreads by a few inches not by feet so it's still mainly a bunching grass. However I'll take some spreading over none. Good luck with grass in Vegas- you are a brave man!

      @@yardbuddha I grew tall fescue here in Las Vegas 15 years ago. It really worked out well. In fact it worked out so well it was tough to mow. Back then I really had little interest in my yard and much more interested in my business but it did grow quite well. I'm hoping it will work again. We will see. Good luck with your RTF. Let's make it work! But more than that, let's make it fun!

      @@rodgersandrodgers8191 Yes it is fun to grow grass and other plants. This is my pre-retirement hobby and I love it. If I can get my dogs to go pee on the bark it would look perfect. Wish me luck!

      @@yardbuddha there are pee pads you can buy for indoor doggie training. I wonder if it would work, if you would put the pea pads in the mulch? Maybe the dogs would get the understanding and use the pea-pads located in the mulch instead of the grass?

      @@rodgersandrodgers8191 Thanks - I have the potty training spray that you can put down which basically does the same thing but it doesn't really work. If I'm outside with them I can get them to pee in the mulch so it's getting better. It's just when the rest of my family lets them out but I have about a 50/50 success rate so it's looking better.

    I reseeded my back yard with the RTF in October and by December it had filled in and look great, I can’t wait till this spring to get in the yard and enjoy it

      That's good to hear. I think it will take a couple seasons to actually start "spreading" once it gets established. It's great looking tall fescue though initially and is hopefully hardier than the other ones I've used before.

    Thanks for the update. At first I thought this was sn old video, realized you recoded from April until now. The bare spots filled in nicely.

      Thanks for watching Grace! Yes I started this video in April because I prefer to overseed in the Spring. Our Fall here gets really cold in October and there isn't enough time for the roots to get established before Winter.

      @@yardbuddha - I'm in Spokane as well. Your comment about overseeding in the Spring rather than the Fall is interesting to me. I'm nearly finished with overseeding and re-seeding my lawn. I started the process at the end of the August and the grass I seeded is coming up well. Do you think the root system will be established well enough to survive the winter? Is there anything I can do to help this along? With my seeding I also spread some 18-24-8 starter fertilizer. Do you think that is enough? FYI, my new grass consists of several varieties of modern TTTF.

      @@kellymjones41 Yes you will be fine as long as the grass has grown over 2-3 inches before it gets down to freezing temps at night. It sounds like you know what you're doing. I've reseeding many times in the Fall and it's turned out fine but you know our Winter does a lot of damage to the lawn. Just give it another medium boost of straight nitrogen in late September.

      Thank you @@yardbuddha. I appreciate the tips. Although I've recently done a ton of reading and watching videos about growing grass and lawn care, this is my first attempt at major seeding and overseeding. Best wishes.

      @@kellymjones41 Here's a link to another video of mine where I killed off a bunch of bentgrass in a neighbors lawn late fall and planted TTTF right before freezing temps: th-cam.com/video/x0xOyxHoguk/w-d-xo.html

    I killed my KBG and put down Barenbrug RTF 5 weeks ago....germinations 7-14 days and still some coming in...overall germination was excellent and extremely happy with the results. I would say I got 90%+ germination. With that said....I killed existing grass, slit the lawn, aerated cross pattern and added 2" of top soil before seeding...then a thin layer of peat moss.

    • @yardbuddha
      @yardbuddha  ปีที่แล้ว

      It sounds like you know what you're doing. I didn't kill off my KBG because most of it was OK and it still seems to blend it well with it. It sounds like it takes a couple years for the RTF to really spread so I'm looking forward to that.

    It is nice to see a new video, my TF was growing really well up until it got hot and it gets hot here 95 to 115, so all I can do is ride it out for now.

    Nice prep work! Yard looks great! I wonder how Barenbrug rtf would do in Indiana? Anyone know?

    • @yardbuddha
      @yardbuddha  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Scott! I am pretty sure you would be fine using it in Indiana as it is climate zone 6 just like where I live. Cold winters and hot summers are usual. Your only issue might be the humidity which I don't have which creates fungus in some tall fescue. Barenbrug is engineered to be disease resistant though. Good luck.

    I have been using Titan you Rx turf fescue mixed with
    Barenbrug RTF Turf
    Type Tall Fescue and so far it’s surviving the Texas heat.

      Angel - I'm happy to hear your grass is doing well. We have been in the high 90's all summer with no rain for 3 weeks. I haven't heard of Titan RX but I choose Barenbrug because it's made nearby me in Oregon and Washington so I figured it would survive my climate. Thanks for watching!
