I was in the same boat. I thought a 2011 would solve all my problems on the range then I got a beretta 92x performance then a Cz Shadow 2 then I figured it was me all along. 😅 2:48
Yeah, on the internet, regular maintenance could be anything from rebuilding the gun from scratch after each magazine to one drop of rem oil every century.
I use the Miata analogy all the time when it comes to 2011s. Max Verstappen will be faster around a track in a Miata than 98% of people will be in a 911. That said if you have 911 money, there’s no reason not to buy a 911 as you’ll enjoy it more than a Miata. Is it “worth it” from a strict dollar perspective considering most 911 owners can’t out drive a Miata? No, but the people who drive them sure seem to love them. Same for 2011s, most owners can’t outshoot a Glock or shadow, but that doesn’t make them any less enjoyable if you have the cash
Its interesting how much talk goes into owning a 2011/DS1911, if you like the platform then buy one and train and have fun with it, its not complicated, its just a gun, ive had mines for years now, and yes you do have to maintain it a little more than a glock in my own experience but I just clean it after every range trip which i enjoy doing
He should have tracked with your Mazda analogy… Glock or something of that nature vs staccato…. Jeep vs Land Cruiser… they both get you off-road, one is a little more comfortable, both need maintenance , but one will cost you twice as much to maintain, and only the owner can justify it for themselves whether it’s worth it…
This is a great analogy. However, as a Toyota guy, I would point out that in this case, the Landcruiser is the Glock when it comes to reliability and cost of maintenance 😁
Worth is a personal/individual judgement of value. No one can tell you whether something is "worth it" or not for you. We can talk about whether or not something is a good VALUE compared to price and functionality of competing options. A Staccato is probably not a good value when compared to a Glock. At the same time, it could be a good value when compared to many of the custom 2011 options. Worth depends on what's important to YOU and what YOU are looking for out a firearm. It's up to YOU to make the judgement of whether it's worth it or not for you.
Maintenance schedule wise I have noticed they need more lubricant but i don’t clean them much more often than I cleaned my Glock. You can keep adding oil for a while 😅 but honestly I let them go until I start having problems most of the time.
Anyone who F'ing wants to.I carried Glocks all my life but got a Staccato P and it's my daily carry and do all be all gun now. The price is irrelevant to me. I love the platform and the classic look of any 1911. It doesn't make me shoot better but doesn't emphasize my mistakes either.
Dave Wampler is also well known in the autocross community. I think he was also a national champion in autocross . I can see how they are closely linked.
In my view 2011’s are like classic cars, if you drive them the same distance as your daily Honda civic more parts break and need replacing, is the classic car more fun, absolutely, can it be as reliable potentially, but the amount of preventive maintenance is way higher compared to the simple oil changes and tire rotations of the Civic
@@armorers_wrench sort of, but realistically the system itself is still a 1911, it’s more like a classic car you put fuel injection on instead of a carburetor, everything else is the same except it’s slightly more modern
Recent Staccato carry optics aside, they've only ever been builds for Open shooters. Limited. Always custom, always tuned, always max expense. The market it so full of other choices these $4-5K guns are very narrowly of interest to any value oriented shooters.
Think of it like any other daily use item, take my car for example. I have to get up and go to work every day. I can drive a Hyundai or I can drive a Mercedes. Both of them are going to get me from point A to point B. When I get to work, I’m going to make the same amount of money no matter which car I drove to work that day. So sometimes it’s just about the ride itself. There’s no question that a Mercedes is a better ride than a Hyundai. Where are people very are in their expectations. If you’re buying a 2011 because you think it will make you a better shooter, you’re spending money on the ride instead of learning to drive better. And probably aren’t going to get the results that you want. You have the budget and you just downright want a better ride a better experience, a better straight back trigger, press, etc. than a 2011 might scratch that itch. but you can’t expect it to make you a better shooter without putting the same amount of work. It would take to Chute 1 inch groups from a Glock. It’s still depends on how you drive it. That being said, I’m an older guy. I’ve carried and owned Glock 19’s for over the last 20 years. You don’t have to treat them nice they aren’t picky. You can just shoot them. They are what they are, I’m at a point in my life where the ride matters, I don’t mind , tinkering with a gun that may be more sensitive than a Glock or M&P. I’ve been carrying a Wilson EDCx9 for a little over a year now, it’s a great gun. I love to shoot it. The trigger is great. By far the most expensive gun I’ve ever bought. I still carry it the same way that I carried my Glock. It looks worn, the finish isn’t perfect on it anymore. It’s not a safe queen, I carry it every day. I just like the ride better than the Glock these days. (Edit)-I typed this all out before I listening to the whole video, didn’t realize Ben was going to make the same car comparison. We’re definitely on the same page.
The 2011 is going to continue to go through growing pains for a long time. We just got reliable(ish) 9mm mags. For any caliber that isn't 9mm mag tuning is still an issue. I've never been able to get 10mm to run reliably out of an STI to the point I would carry it on a hunt. It works mind you, just not as well as say a WAY cheaper XDM 10mm. All the parts are fitted which is going to require more people to move into the armorer space to work on them. And that leads to it's own set of issues, I foresee quite a bit of home gunsmithing that goes awry. This ain't your daddy's Mazda but it's not a race car either. It's somewhere in between as far as maintenance and reliability. Most shooters will not put the time into the platform that it needs and will still be better served with a PDP or CZ and a lot more trigger time. In short, buy Glock, shoot Glock, rinse, repeat.
A fast shooter will absolutely be able to shoot faster splits with a 2011. When I was shooting them in limited my splits on a confirmation 1 target were routinely 0.14s. When my grip was right 0.11-0.12 on the really honey targets. With my Shadow 2s I have trouble breaking 0.15s. That's with a 2.5# SA trigger. Does it matter? Staccatos are for people who think spending 4k on a pistol will make them a better shooter than spending 4k on ammo.
They’re not for the left handed , poor or not 😒
My 2011's (Staccato) and 2011 pattern pistols with ambi-safeties, are just as or more left-handed friendly than my Gen 3 Glocks or any non-customized 1911 or most guns before 2010 where mag release and safety location were non-negotiable.
That's because they're made for human beings
A gay one
dang troll. "the abuse that ive been subjected to". no you havent. you got what you brought on yourself. nice try!! you got a good amount of bad advice, but you way blew a part that has worn out into something way bigger than it is. its all good, but you sure try really hard to get mileage out of a worn out part.
First Siggas, and now GrandWizard. You turning racist, Ben? Or have you always been?
I'm outraged that you're outraged.
The staccato bros are to much i sold the 3 i had because everyone has them now and they just don't carry the prestige they once had and those same bros are all experts i hate the gunn community its almost as bad as politics

Was I the only one who thought he was gonna say “for whites only” ?
I have times on some assessments and drills and splits I set with my Glock build that I still haven’t beat with my 2011s.
Nice guns are nice, but they don’t make you better. @jacrispy
