My argument is merely a reminder to Mr. Noir and countless others that the overwhelming majority of this country is rural....and despite what big city folks think, what goes for them is often pointless out in the sticks.
No disrespect to you, but population counts are higher in cities. I do believe that open carrying is alright in the country, but in the city if a criminal sees someone open carrying a gun, they're a target and the gun is also seen as possibly an opportunity. @@plowboysghost
@@plowboysghostYou’re both right. Most of America is country backwoods, but most live in urban areas. Honestly I respect both sides and just try to act accordingly to my surroundings when I carry one day.
I agree with him on one point. I don't care what you do as long as you are safe about it. I don't open carry "primarily" because I don't like to draw attention to myself.
@@TVhyrusI certainly would be surprised because I take note of anyone open carrying. Not, as I said elsewhere, because I’m worried about them, but because I figure they are the ones who are going to get shot first if there’s a bad guy in the area looking to rack up a body count. I don’t know how you could miss someone with a hog leg on their hip like the fellow in this video.
It's complicated and depends on the situation, which is unpredictable. I think open carry would deter 90% of perps. The worst 1% will shoot you in the back first. How the math works out for what is best who knows? I respect your opinion and I've considered open carrying a 6 gun but I think I'd only do it with a backup weapon available to the off hand.
I would say the math goes like this. 90% of perps are looking for easy targets with no violence or resistance so if your not flashing cash & assets they won't bother you. 90% of confrontations that lead to trouble can be walked away from. Then there the 10% of bad guys that want to steal your car, rob the restaurant & everyone init while your there. If your open & carry there just going to shot you 1st & you will be surprised. Being concealed gives you the element of surprise & options to take action you feel you can make & is appropriate. Open & carry is like the security guard at the bank in the movies that just get shot of the bat while everyone else gets told to lie down on the floor. Concealed is the bank manager with a shot gun under the desk
I watched a zombie leaving the scene of his destruction as I pulled in for my daily addiction to Cokeacola. I asked why? Took 3 big guys to help upright em. Go big boys if you can! 🎯
Personally, I conceal carry so that I don't have to deal with the Karens or the police. But I also like it when others around me are open carrying as the attention is on them instead of me. I attend a potluck in a park once a month here in Murderapolis. At least two people open carry, and at least 3 others, including myself, conceal carry. The people open carrying are a deterrent to criminals. But in case a criminal is still bold enough to attack any of us, there will be at least 3 guns trained on them that they didn't know were there.
I attended a church sale yesterday, open carrying my .357. While browsing, one of the little old ladies running the sale came up to me and said, "I feel safe now, cause if anything happens here I'll know who to holler for," lol. It's great to get positive comments like this.
Why would I want to be a tyrant and extortionist? I don’t like police nor support them. I carry a gun and a blowout first aid kit in my car, so I don’t need to risk being shot by rookie having an acorn dropped on them.
I'm dark skinned, I never open carry, because when I do I only get the weird stares as if they are waiting for me to do something. Even when I'm on my own property mowing the lawn. LoL.

To quote John wayne " Maybe you can get that fancy gun outa that fancy Holster before a gentleman with an old fashioned 6 shooter blows a hole in ya"haha
Hi Plowboy! I watched that one too and I think part of the issue was that the guy had no holster at all, just the grip sticking out of his pocket. He was standing in line with his back to the door and the kid grabbed it and ran. " What do you do when someone takes your gun?" was a question raised. My answer is pull out the backup! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
With no holster being involved at all, that settles it in my mind. Were arguing over an idiot who wasnt open carrying, he was getting lucky. Some sort of holster is required... If what your saying is accurate about it being in a pocket, he was asking for it. To compare this to any sort of a holster carry option, either open or concealed, is a conceded misrepresentation of carrying in any form.
@@Rumblestrip Even a cheap holster is like $40-60 and if all you could afford is a $200 pistol then that's a lot of money. I never had to pull my pistol out more than before I could afford a good holster.

Several years ago my nephew and I went into a store open carrying, there was a couple in the store and the Woman said "Oh my god they have guns" she and her partner literally ran out of the store. The cashier started laughing and told us that she always feels safer when folks like us come into the store.

@@plowboysghost Your view is that since most targets aren't open carrying, that open carrying must be safe. That's like saying most people who die today aren't dying of jumping off buildings, so therefore jumping off buildings must be safe.

Very well said. We need more of this. We don’t have to agree, but we can be civilized. And when both sides have sensible reasons it makes for good conversation.
I never understood the whole "You should never open carry" crowd. Make yourself a target? Sure, if you are the only person open carrying, but what if EVERYONE was doing it? I know a lot of criminals are dumb, but if I was going to rob a place and I noticed that 10 out of 15 people in the joint had a pistol strapped to their hip I'd probably decide to go elsewhere. And there is a reason certain critters openly display their defense mechanisms. You don't mess with a porcupine because those quills look nasty, and most bigger critters don't think the fight is worth it. You want less crime? Let criminals know that people are carrying the means to defend themselves, and the will to use them.
Exactly. Nobody in ancient times with a sword on their hip was fucked with. Even if they secretly had a dagger it was always someone who didn't appear to have anything that would get robbed etc. In markets
@@ordinaryman1904 Well Ordinary, you are only about 140 years out from a time in American where everyone HAD to carry a gun with them at all times out of necessity. Travelling the wilderness without a gun for hunting and protection would have been a death wish. And, get this, they would have carried it partially for the same reason we need to now - No one is there to save you. Whether riding a stage coach between settlements or driving between cities, law enforcement is not there to protect you. If you get into trouble its up to you to protect you. The police just come by and clean up the mess later.
All very good points and well said. I met a fellow in a walmart the other day who was open carrying a 1911 and as he pushed his cart by me, I pointed to his weapon and smiled big, then brushed aside my concealed Sig under an open shirt. This struck up a conversation where I said he was the first open carry I'd seen in Arkansas in all my years here, and yes, I look for them all the time. He says he's seen a few, but not enough in his mind. He said he's had positive comments from people and owners of businesses, and never had anyone freak out. He was ex military security and I saw him, like me, always scanning the area around us, but very friendly witrh me. I enjoyed our talk and have decided to open carry after that talk we had, as I'm tired of hiding it. We're constitutionaly carry here, and you need no permit to carry concealed or openly. Good show, sir. Thanks for your input on the subject, sir. I agree with you, and I have watched Colion in the past. He's okay, but a little too giddy for my tastes.
Ive lived in NW Ark going on 5 yrs now. Have been carrying concealed 25+yrs. Each and every LE/Highway patrol ive ever encountered has thanked me for carrying.......from full size 1911s to 357/38 sp snubbies to 22 mag NA.
Yeah we have Constitutional Carry as well as open carry and even honorably discharged military veteran concealed carry without a license or permit here in Louisiana. I carry both open and concealed depending on the situation. If I am at church, me and my fellow brothers in Christ carry concealed for the surprise factor if anyone is dumb enough to try a church shooting. I have had mostly positive comments from people for open carrying. We do unfortunately have a Dollar General near our home that apparently caters to "Karens." My daughter told me her manager was alerted by a so called "concerned" citizen because this guy was open carrying while shopping which is legal, but instead of standing up for the dudes right to open carry, she made him leave the store to protect the sensitive feelings of the idiot "Karen." Funny how she never had an issue with me open carrying but one word from a liberal moron and she takes the side of the liberal moron. So yeah, just be aware of the morons out there that think all guns are bad nonsense.
Your correct. If concealed carry was the way to go, then why do non uniformed officers (detectives in shirt and tie) open carry, instead of concealed carry. Because when the crap hits the fan, open carry is MUCH faster.
Because it's television, and TV and movies like to display guns. I've never seen a real detective open carrying, unless they're at a crime scene or in the station, and it's too hot to wear a coat. Also, I've NEVER seen a real detective, other than a rookie detective, wearing a shoulder holster! 😊

A real criminal makes a mental note and when you aren't carrying at a bar he helps himself to the stuff in your truck. You can't hardly beat a criminal at the game. Be polite to them and spook them if you have the ability. Of course keep your firearm on you and stay out the bars
I open carried (OC) for 30 years as a working cop but prefer to keep things hidden in retirement. One of the things I did was keep my forearm over the holstered weapon when people were around me. Security holsters were still somewhat expermintal before my ‘97 retirement.
"No purpose" is rather absolute. Both forms of carry have merit depending on the individual. Saying there is no purpose is close minded. You can have your opinion on how to carry but your statement is uneducated.
Open carry does have its humorous aspects at times. I was once “helped” by a stranger in line at the bank. He wanted to let me know that I “accidentally” left the hammer back on my 1911. Thanks pal, you’re a real peach! 🤣👍
That's funny!!😂 I was pumping gas one time and this guy walks up on me because he was surprised to see someone open carrying. I think when he noticed I was vigilant about my weapon he decided to slow his pace down to speak to me. He lives in Louisiana and did not know it was legal to open carry. I was like how could you live in Louisiana for years and not know open carry is Legal? I politely educated him and he went about his business with no issues. Be vigilant and keep your head on a swivel as my dearly departed best friend Russell used to say. I miss old Russell. He was the best redneck friend I've ever had. We both saw eye to eye on a lot of things, but us rednecks tend to be that way. 😀
I agree with your reasoning. I also majority open carry (a single action as well) for about 8 or so years now. Never had an issue, never had my gun stolen from the holster (which is hard to do from behind) . Now I agree that some places it would be wise to conceal (very crowded areas, gun free zones, etc), but to write off OC as bad everywhere is wrong. I have a pet peeve with the gun community, we'll take one fantasy idea and run with it as gospel. I'm in the opinion of who cares how you or Joe Blow carries THEIR gun, just carry the darn gun.
Well said, to both of you. One size doesn’t fit all. We are all at different stages of life and reside in different parts of this great nation. Carry on and stay prepared.
I agree that situational awareness is very important for everyone, whether you carry open or concealed or are unarmed. Keep your head on a swivel at all times .
The vigilance you mentioned is the most important part of the whole subject whether you open, conceal or dont carry at all everybody should pay attention to everything around them when they can.
Hopefully people who are carrying one way or another aren't standing around or in public places buried in their phones. Chances are very good that if somebody's paying attention, anytime a sketchy person enters a place, the person with the firearm will have the advantage before the bad guy even knows they exist.
I got an expensive pistol. Was told someone would steal it off me. The thing for me is people walk around with $1,500+ phones open for anyone to take daily.

Excellent points made. Both for and against methods of carrying a firearm. Having been a peace officer for 28 years, I'll tell you this. We were always watching everything arounds us. Both on duty and off. We were trained to observe. To give a detailed description of a suspect from a single glance. We watched the actions of people, constantly analysing suspicious activity. We were required to be armed off duty. And compelled to act upon a felony or assault within our view. We trained on weapon retention often. Many officers loose their lives being shot by their own weapon. Now my personal opinion. Long retired, and in my early 70's, I'm no longer the young and strong 6' 210# bodybuilder and able to fight off an attack. I'm now a 160# diabetic with severe balance issues. Thus I keep a firearm on me at all times. If confronted by an attack by one of more suspects, I will, repeat, will resort to deadly force. I rarely open carry. I don't advertise the fact I'm armed. Decades of training, and three shootings during my career, I can deploy a firearm quickly. And I definitely know how to use it. I'll not be a victim. Period. But I'll not tempt anyone to try for my weapon when visible. Thus, I carry a concealed handgun in an easily deployed position. I've got my own range out in the woods were I live. I train nearly every other day on drawing from concealed. Once a week, I'll train with live fire on one or more targets. No running and crouching down behind little plywood walls like the "tatical kids" do. I'm not physically able to. Nope, I draw and fire from where I stand. Or from a chair, as if in a car or seated at a restaurant. But the point is, I train. The fact that some people are killed trying to deploy a weapon from an unattainable holster position, frankly, that's a clear indication of a total lack of training. Period. They figured that they were armed, and thus capable. Wrong. Without proper training and consistent practice with the weapon system they use, they become a liability. Good intentions never won a confrontation let alone a gunfight. So, in closing I'll say this. If you decide to carry a weapon, be responsible enough to know how to shoot. When to shoot. And train and practice with it continually. Whether you carry open or concealed. And if placed in a situation where the difference in the outcome depends upon your actions, remember this. You are the "first responder" and how well you react will be how well you trained. Thanks for letting an old soldier and peace officer take a moment or your time.
My preference is concealed carry. The reason being I don’t want to be perceived as a threat to a bad guy. The only time I open carry is if I’m in the woods or somewhere like that. Cheers!

Think about it like this. There is plenty of cops that are open carrying, what’s the difference between a cop open carrying and a civilian open carrying? You don’t hear much about people snatching a cops gun, and yes I know they usually have level 2 holsters but all the same. I personally carry concealed because of where I live, I don’t see people open carrying so I don’t want to stand out.
Assuming he is not being mirrored/hacked here on YT, he seems to think the 9mm is all the power you need for self-defense or for Law Enforcement. I'm just the opposite, as I'm of the opinion, and have been for several decades, that the only reason to carry a 9mm pistol is because many such pistols carry a LOT of rounds in a single magazine. After just shy of thirty years as an LEO, both in uniform and plain clothes, I'm of the firm opinion that big relatively slow projectiles make more effective man stoppers than ANY 9mm that HAS to expand to be an effective man stopper The .40S&W and up starts out big and stays that way even if it does not expand dramatically like a 9mm HAS too! By the way, he disagrees with me on every point I've made above. Excellent video as usual! Keep 'em comin'!!!
Starts out big? It’s nominally 1mm bigger. That’s .045” for you machinists, and 3/64” for carpenters. I have plenty of pistols in 10mm, .41s, .44s and larger (even .510”) etc but let’s not kid ourselves that in the case of a bullet failure that a wound channel that’s .045” wider will make any difference. It’s probably going to be hole all the way through and where that hole ended up is far more important than a slight difference in diameter.
If im puttering around in the woods or on my property, i open carry. (Usually carry larger pistol) but in public settings i conceal carry. I just dont want that kind of attention.
I’m in Tucson as well. I open carry cross draw. If I carry any other way, my weapon’s checkering tears up my clothes, and my truck’s cloth seats! 🤦🏻♂️
I’ve done both. I can remember going into a store for the first time open carrying I felt like I had my ding-a-ling hanging out of my pants! Lol. But over time I became very comfortable with it. If I could carry concealed all the time I probably would. But the availability of comfortable holsters, a protruding belly, clothing and climate make it impossible to do so. When I do conceal it is with an OWB holster level 2 retention. I can’t do appendix, or IWB. I’ve tried multiple times with multiple holsters and it simply doesn’t work for me. I have 2 daily carries. A winter and a summer. My winter carry is a Springfield Hellcat Pro with my holster that’s OWB, tight to my hip and concealed 50% of the time until I take my jacket off then it becomes open. But my summer carry is a SW Bodyguard 380 with an integrated Crimson Trace laser. Fits down in my front pocket beautifully and not any heavier than a smartphone. It has a heavy enough trigger pull to where I never have to worry about accidental discharges. I carry for one reason and one reason only. SELF PRESERVATION. I don’t do third party shootings, I don’t go anywhere with a gun that I would never go to without one. When I follow those 3 basic rules my chances of ever having to use a firearm in self defense drop to almost zero.
I’m fine open carrying out in the woods, but in town I don’t want to be a magnet of other people’s attention, both criminals and Karens. I also find urban areas have too many people to watch constantly moving around you. There will always some people behind you and everywhere you go you have to stand in line. That’s just me.
No problem with open carry. However, there is a significantly higher risk that someone can grab/steel your gun if they see the gun and it is easy to grab. To each their own. My normal carry method is OWB. However I keep the gun covered with an untucked/long shirt or jacket. I like/prefer OWB because it is the fastest to deploy
Same. Mine is IWB with the grip exposed and the barrel on the inside. I wear a jacket, vest, or flannel shirt so that I can still remain discreet but have a quick access to my gun.
Agree, criminals are lazy or they'd have jobs. They don't want to face armed individuals, it's easier to find a soft target. I also stand at a counter with my sidearm towards the counter.
I have carried open and concealed depending on where I'm going and I'm always just as vigilant regardless because when you carry you are accepting the burden and responsibility that comes along with being armed.
Aye, generally speaking, the only times I will conceal carry a firearm is when I’m either at a private venue or event where I know people are likely to be more skiddish or unwelcoming of me if I’m visibly armed (weddings and such), or if I am passing through a non 2nd amendment friendly city or state. Every other time I will carry as I always do, openly.
Hence my reply regarding hassle and certain situations and environments. I have actually had 5.0 called on me twice, while open carrying. nothing was illegal about it and nothing came of it, other than the hassle of it all. Cops said they got a call of a guy with a gun and had to investigate. I dont particularly appreciate getting the third degree and having my Privacy invaded on a whim, because somebody felt "Unsafe" while i was exercising my constitutional 2nd amendment right.
@@TightwadTodd aye, some places be turning that way. But since I have been carrying a firearm this past decade plus, I have learned to keep my temper in check, and on more than one occasion swallowed my pride in order to deal with potential confrontations. When carrying openly, I’ve had many folk come up and ask me questions; most are friendly like, curious about firearm choice or my reasons for carrying. Others have been downright insulting and vulgar, offended at the sight of my firearm. Luckily however, I’ve never had the police called on me when in public. As I say, I dress sharply, and carry myself smartly, avoiding the look of ‘Billy Joe out for beer” or a hoodlum. Crossed paths with many law enforcement on their patrols, never once getting a concerned look, even with a full size Sig or a revolver on my belt.
In my opinion, it really depends on your environment whether OC's a good thing or not. It may be considered perfectly normal and acceptable, somewhat vulgar and odd, or a cause for general alarm and discomfort. Glad that this video was made and it's attracted lots of constructive, civil comments.
Fortunately in Georgia, we have Constitutional carry, so, we can carry however we want. We don't even need a holster. Just stick your gun in your belt, and or pants and go if that is how you choose to carry. I did get a carry belt last year, and it really makes a difference with holster retention and stability. I carry both ways, sometimes open and sometimes concealed. Bigger guns I carry openly.
We have permitless carry in Texas also. It will give me a great big smile if our country ever gets Constitutional carry though! (or even if any states get it)
@@bigdaddycool4242 South Carolina does not allow adults over 18 to carry firearms everywhere. (THAT would be Constitutional Carry). I see both sides . And open carrying helps break the stigma people have about carrying cause we know there are people just terrified to see one and it is also like exercising a muscle if you don’t ever use it it will it will go away and that would not be a good thing. And I seen the video your talking about and the dude was oblivious to what was going on and like you said if you carry keep your head on a swivel. Good thing is I think the guy that got it took didn’t get the wrong end of it and he learned a valuable lesson that day if you are carrying pay attention to your surroundings.
I would never open-carry; I don't want to draw attention to myself, or risk upsetting someone and having the cops sicced on me. Situational awareness is always a good idea.
I don't know where people get this ridiculous idea that open carrying makes one a target, but it doesn't make any sense, and it needs to stop. Criminals are predators. And predators don't attack the buffalo with the biggest horns. The predatory mindset is all about risk vs reward. Open carrying means you can provide armed resistance. That is a lot of risk to assume, and for what reward? Picking a fight with an armed defender is lose-lose. Even if you "win" the gunfight, you now have a capital murder charge with no statute of limitations hanging over you. There's no real winning outcome, no incentive to take on that much risk. And there's plenty of fish in the sea. Why target the guy that can shoot you when there's so many potential victims that can't? For a four year old iPhone with a cracked screen? A debt card that is going to be canceled in a matter of hours? For a $600 Glock? There's 400 million guns in this country, but you have to have that one? It doesn't make any sense. Stop. Just stop. We have an entire field of study dedicated to the criminal mindset and everything criminology tells us is that there is no bigger deterrent to violence than an armed victim. Open carrying deters violence not only against the carrier but also against everyone in their immediate vicinity. Nothing scares a predator more than armed resistance from an intended victim. That is why lions leave the buffalo with the biggest horns alone.
It makes you a target because as good as people think they are, they are not "head on a swivel" all the time and a dedicated gun criminal may very well NOT decide to leave you alone when he act. If he is in your blind spot or gets the jump on you, you are got! Look at the Dallas PD officer that was murdered sitting in his cruiser. Open carry in PD uniform didn't stop his killer.
@@everydayamputee Cops are targeted more often than OC civilians. From someone who has open carried for 11+ years, I thank you for your concern...but I'm good.🍻
I disagree with open carry. As someone else here stated, I’d rather be the surprise than the target. Personal opinion/choice and level of training is what matters.
@@georgevanaken925 Yup, while you’re getting shot I have a chance to move and draw my concealed weapon. I’m armed 99% of the time I am outside my home and no one ever knows. Just found your channel and subbed. You make a good point. I typically open carry a blued Vaquero with ivory grips when I am around town close to my ranch. If I have to go into the big city (and I avoid that hell hole as much as possible), I typically conceal carry a more modern sidearm. Situational awareness is key either way.
100% agree. I open carry primarily though living in western washington i do find myself wearing longer jackets in fall and winter to semi-conceal it as carrying at all up here is very taboo and makes you feel self concious. When i go back south to Mississippi to visit family it doesnt even cross my mind because its normal, but regardless i still predominantly open carry and for 2 reasons you mentioned, it is a deterrent and its a much quick and more importantly smoother draw with fewer possibilities for getting hung up or fumbling. Ive been in a gun fight working as a security gaurd and yeah anyone who hasnt its hard to exlplain this to and actually break through the bravado and delusions that we tell ourselves. A few decades ago when I was in my 20's I was a subcontractor and doing work in a consumer foods grocery store. I was having a conversation about guns and everything related with security and he told me about two guards from his company that were overseeing something in Atlanta and they were bragging about their shooting skills and speed of draw...before the nights end a couple guy's came in there and shot both of them dead because they were security they were targeted. The criminal's then carried out their intended robbery. I've never carried openly for self defense...only for hunting etc. . I don't want anyone around me to know that I'm armed. There are other instances out there similar to that story and I saw a video not long ago where an armed citizen was killed by an accomplice of an armed criminal he was following and had no idea the guy was following behind him.
@@bobyjones3905 Why would you let them see you reach for the weapon unless you were already targeted? and why would you be targeted when the armed guards were the target and you're either a customer or a subcontractor etc.? there's many examples, but perhaps you remember the 80 some odd year old gentleman in the barber shop that got robbed by two punks with semi autos? Old guy had a concealed derringer and put one in both their heads. He wasn't deemed a threat so he wasn't being watched or held at gunpoint. That's my reasoning for carrying concealed and never letting anyone know I'm armed. I certainly don't go around telling people they should or shouldn't open carry or conceal carry etc., but I do chime in on why I choose to conceal.
@@bobyjones3905 In those examples the only thing that can help is training, speed, accuracy. People that I knew personally that were shot all lived long enough to return fire except one and he was shot in the face with a 12 ga. oo buck load. So even if we do get the drop and plant one in the chest it doesn't mean we'll survive. BTW several months back there was a news video (it's on youtube) where a guy went in a convenience store open carrying and a thug punk in line behind him grabbed his gun from the holster and ran out of the store. I'd think it's a good idea to buy a good security holster as well if you open carry. I also had a friend that was working security for a grocery chain and a customer snatched his DA 357 mag from the holster and shot my friend and a utility clerk! I personally just have seen too many things involving open carry that makes me uncomfortable announcing that I'm armed. To be fair I knew another guy that had his gun taken off him during a robbery and he was conceal carrying, but targeted due to being an employee and another guy who was hit over the head in the park and rendered unconscious and left his gun home, but said it wouldn't have helped in that scenario and would have been taken if he had it as he never saw them coming.
Open carried when in uniform and on duty, but concealed carried when off duty. Yet was always aware of what was going on around me regardless of how I carried or if I wasn’t carrying. Now you said one thing I can agree with, and that is with regards to the appearance of being weak. Most do not understand this, but you can still appear weak even if you are open carrying or conceal carrying as it is all in how you carry and conduct yourself when out and about.
I agree. I open carry, and I'm always alert in public. I can understand the concern, I guess. Now a days everyone has their face in their phones all the time. It was like a year ago. I was coming out of the mall at night just before closing. There were some "thugs" hanging out in the parking lot. I took note of them right away. Mostly because that's normal for me but also because they were almost trying to be hidden. I also noticed they were watching people coming out of the mall. They obviously left me alone because of the iron on my hip. I came to find out they robbed and nearly killed a young man who came out sometime after I left. I don't see how people can miss the logic in that. Who's going to say "hey let's target that guy. He's carrying a gun on his hip." No, sir. They are going to target people who appear to be defenseless. It shouldn't come as a surprise. Taking guns away from lawful citizens is even more foolish. There are countries that are trying that right now. They would lead you to believe it's working. Don't believe statistics. Statistics is a con man's tool. Try asking them why all of a sudden they are trying to ban any knife with a point. Ask them how effective a knife attached to the end of a stick is and how they know. Ask them why all of a sudden, the criminal element started carrying sticks with knives on the end. It seems like something that would be vary inconvenient to carry around. That's what they are doing now. Ask them if they ban knives how long it will be before they have to go chopping down trees all over the country because criminals are carrying sharp sticks instead. It's like you said, this is a tool. The person carrying it is the weapon, and they will always find a way. If we ban firearms, it will be in favor of the criminal element. They won't have to worry about their victims being able to defend themselves.
That's how I carry 98% of the time, during cool weather. A lot of people have misunderstood my reason for carrying openly...being that it's only because I can't easily conceal the guns I prefer to carry. When it's jacket, over shirt/frock/duster weather, I'm just fine with my guns being hardly visible.
Many times the best offense is defense. And many time the visible presence of a firearm, especially on someone who is watching you, is major defense and a deterrent in most cases.
Good stuff plowboy, I open carry alot myself and have picked up certain habits when out myself. Some being how I position myself in places, whether standin or sittin down, not to draw more attention then neccessary. Also with wheel guns have gotten to the point I almost always carry cross draw or reverse carry. Reverse carry more times then anything and have practiced the draw extensively. But when I have people in close proximity I've too picked up the habbit of resting my hand or wrist on the backstrap of the firearm and whatnot. Like you said comes down to mindset, vigilance, and knowing what's goin on around you more then the amount of ammo you got in the gun. You ain't goin to war, but you should be good with whatever tool you decide to carry and how you plan to carry it. God bless ya bud from ole Carolina.
@@plowboysghost very true. Reverse carry seems to be the same way in my opinion, I carry single actions reversed and canted forward. Works well if you practice some.

I feel it's a moral obligation to deter and dissuade the violent criminal mind. Only force and the threat of severe and swift consequences can convince the degenerate to choose a kinder course of life.
I prefer concealed carry. The main reason is there's too many people that freak out if they see a firearm. I don't want the trouble. Now I live in a non-open carry state, moot point. Carry however you want but, always carry.
It really depends on the location. The church would've been a decent open carry location. And in regards to that video, the guy concealed from behind which is definitely not recommended

I actually just had an incident happen last week at a gas station. It happened at about 1:30am. I know stupid time to go to a gas station. Fortunately this one is in an ok part of town. I walked in to find the clerk who is a small older lady telling a very drunk 25-30yr old male to leave. I caught him giving her a very mean look. It was when he looked at me he changed his tune. I’m 6’8” weighing about 325lbs and I open carry a S&W M&P 2.0 .45. I’m a big guy with a full size gun. As soon as I quickly caught on to the situation, I gestured to the door and said “time to go.” He didn’t say one word to me. Which tells me that he was more than willing to harm that little old lady, until he found himself contested by someone willing to fight back. After he left the lady thanked me multiple times, I told her I’m a bouncer and that throwing out drunks is what I do for a living. She also liked that fact that I carry a gun.
@@plowboysghost same. It’s like Wargames. The best fight you can win is the one you don’t have to fight. I’d rather be made as someone carrying a gun, since blending in isn’t an option for me because I’m so tall. Then to be mistaken for someone who appears unarmed. Cause then I could have a gun in my face and no response time to act.
You’re right! I feel the same way although I carry concealed more often than not. Would the bad guy rather tackle someone he knows is packin or somebody that looks weak and unarmed?
I think more criminals are less likely to go after somebody who appears to be a hard target“open carrying“ versus somebody who’s concealed carrying and they can’t tell they have a gun so they might be a softer target
This is brilliant, thanks! All the points you make here are great, and I completely agree. I used to think I'd never open carry off my property, but I've largely done a 180 on this thinking lately. I'm going to start open carrying everywhere now. Cheers!
I liked what you had to say and I can see the points you made. My concern with open carry is: 1. Unless you're military or law enforcement, People who carry are not taught weapon retention (i.e. What to do if someone is trying to take your gun). Saying "Keep Control Of Your Firearm" is not enough. Just like drawing a firearm, means of keeping someone from taking the gun (Concealed or Open carrying) needs to be taught. 2. If open carrying, someone can call the police and falsely accuse you of drawing your gun and pointing it at them or someone might freak out and start yelling "He's Got A Gun!! He's Got A Gun!". And that will open a big can of worms. Unless I am at a shooting event, I'd rather no one know I have a gun till I draw it and use it. That's just me. Take Care and God Bless, Mr. Plowboy! And Hello To Mrs. Plowboy! You better catch up to her making those laps or she will start out running you! LOL
Ive actually had option 2 happen to me twice... Both times i was in a store, both times there were tons of cameras and witnesses, and 1 of the 2 got cited for making a false statement at the scene. Both times i wasnt spoken to until I'd made my way to my pick-up... The one that got cited is the only one i spoken to... I had a pair of 1851 Navy Colts and the officer was admiring them and wanted to pet them for a few and asked for pointers and advice with black powder arms.
I agree with being aware and not letting yourself become a victim. People have to decide what's best for them. When open carry first passed in Texas, I saw nobody doing it for over a year. Then one day I saw a guy with his gun on his hip. The look on this guys face was like he was begging somebody to give him an excuse to use it. Even when I take mine with me I leave it in the truck. Now with me getting older with physical issues, I plan to actively carry. I have yet to decide to go open or concealed. I live in a pretty safe part of town, and have seen a few guys in Walmart carrying openly. They were nice, respectful, and nobody paid them any mind. If they did, they didn't show it.
Depends on where I am. I open carry a LOT. There is nothing wrong with it at all. Those that don’t open carry because they are “worried about what others think or feel” or “because of cops” are honestly out of it. They aren’t on that 2A train like they think they are…
My only difference would be that I would be standing at the opposite 90 degree angle where those in the line would have to reach completely across my body to gain Any access.
Respect your decision and your situational awareness while open carrying, but I won’t carry open for two main reasons; 1.) Colion is right, where criminals are more violent and more brazen, if they rush into a place to rob it and see your gun, you’re a threat to them. They may run away, but they may also make you their first target cause you’re standing between them and their loot. There’s a lot of places in this country where criminals aren’t afraid to murder. 2.) Maybe in the woods or farming communities, people are fully comfortable with seeing people carrying, but not everyone feels that way in all areas of the country. There’s no sense in scaring people in areas where it’s not as common. I respect your comparison of open vs concealed draw, but training is the most important key here. I have an open and concealed holster for my pistol, and I can draw both just as quick. Practice, practice, practice. But at the end of the day, we both stand for the same belief; the 2nd. Happy shooting brotha
Exactly. Open carry is fine in churches and Walmart. You're not going to run into any bad people there in all likelihood. But, you don't want to be open carrying at a convince store in Jackson, MS, Chicago, IL or Baltimore, MD in the bad part of town. There are people there who shoot cops who are open carrying. They are not scared of guns. Most of them have been shot at, if not shot, already.
I think Colion's video was more applicable for people that live in major city/high crime areas. I am not sure where you live, but I saw my first open carry in a small town in TX. No problem, I was fascinated. Living in a major city, however, where criminals do all kinds of trickery in broad daylight, my first thought is that they would do whatever they thought it took to get your tool. Yes, you should keep your head on a swivel in general, but living here, one might blur the line between vigilant and paranoid. I respect and support those who open carry. All the best to them, yourself included, sir.
I think the best way to open carry is to either go with a cowboy look or a clean off-duty officer look. This is so that anyone who might be concerned seeing your gun will instantly know you're put together well enough to not be a criminal.
Yes how you present yourself open carrying can have drastic differences in how people will perceive you and if they will see you as a hazard or as an asset. However the same goes with concealed, most people can figure out that the guy with 5 different manufacturer stickers and a big ol gadsten flag on the back windshield probably has a firearm and to a criminal that'll tell them if theres nobody in the vehicle theres probably a couple free guns just behind a piece of glass right there.
Open-carrying with "clean off-duty officer look" can get you killed. A better look would be the "just got back from deployment and haven't lost my edge yet."
I always thought the idea of open carry was some level of deterrence. I'm not so sure anymore. People are definitely more suicidal , indifferent to the idea of meeting their maker. Even though I don't carry, I am pretty vigilant and observant.
How open carry is seen by others, whether as a deterrent or an opportunity to die, to me is irrelevant ....so long as I can draw quickly and smoothly with as little chance of failure or delay.
I'm currently living in Commifornia where open carry is unconstitutionally illegal. That being said, I've become extremely good at identifying people who are concealed carrying. 😅

Thank YOU for taking the time to share your experience and good advice!

Push the holster towards your frontal area that way you can see if someone tries to take your gun or get a retainment holster
If it really is a significantly higher risk, then it would seem that incidents of that nature would be far more numerous.

Ive been in a gun fight working as a security gaurd and yeah anyone who hasnt its hard to exlplain this to and actually break through the bravado and delusions that we tell ourselves. Your adrenaline is gonna make you screw up hardcore, so train train train and eliminate any possibility for user induced error or mistake you can. I run a p226 as both my duty pistol and edc, no saftey to forget yet safe to carry with one in the pipe because the double action trigger on the first round, decocker so not slip of the thumb letting the hammer down when your hands are shaking violently from the adrenaline post fight. All metal frame so if you drop it from 6ft onto concrete the frame doesnt crack like one of those plastic fantastics. Things to concider.
Yep and if a person has the drop on you it doesn’t matter if you are open carry or concealed. When you reach for the weapon your the target
@@hercules1073 you don’t let them see you but sometimes you can’t avoid it. So in that case it doesn’t matter if you are open carry or concealed

Do you think outside the waistband with a cover garment is a good compromise of concealed and open?
That's how I carry 98% of the time, during cool weather. A lot of people have misunderstood my reason for carrying openly...being that it's only because I can't easily conceal the guns I prefer to carry.
When it's jacket, over shirt/frock/duster weather, I'm just fine with my guns being hardly visible.

Many times the best offense is defense. And many time the visible presence of a firearm, especially on someone who is watching you, is major defense and a deterrent in most cases.
Agreed.
I prefer to carry a single action in crossdraw, as an only or a second gun.

I feel it's a moral obligation to deter and dissuade the violent criminal mind. Only force and the threat of severe and swift consequences can convince the degenerate to choose a kinder course of life.
Concealed carry only in my state and I never appear to be weak and helpless.
I prefer concealed carry. The main reason is there's too many people that freak out if they see a firearm. I don't want the trouble. Now I live in a non-open carry state, moot point.

@@stephencivic1989 I've yet to encounter a soul that acted up around me while I was open carrying.
I believe I can be a deterrent.
I find positives and negatives with both ways of carrying. I see more people open carrying now than in the past. I carry concealed for now.
Agreed. There are advantages and drawbacks to both modes.
LOL
1. OC or just carry in general, isn't for everyone. Especially those uncomfortable with it. 2. That could happen but it hasn't to me in 9+ years.
@@Rumblestrip My corner of Alabama is much more open carry friendly.
Great talk! 👍 Agree with you 💯
Thank you.
Depends on where I am. I open carry a LOT. There is nothing wrong with it at all.
Those that don’t open carry because they are “worried about what others think or feel” or “because of cops” are honestly out of it. They aren’t on that 2A train like they think they are…
Your 2A Constitutional Right . Its Absolute! Semper Fi to the Brotherhood.
My only difference would be that I would be standing at the opposite 90 degree angle where those in the line would have to reach completely across my body to gain Any access.
My angle is dictated by which direction Im paying most attention to.
@@brandonwaddell2583 Thanks for watching and sharing 🍻
@@mitchellhowell9380 There is a certain importance to how one presents themselves.
@@georgegravette1132 You have a point. It probably depends on where you are. I certainly wouldn't go for that look in a high crime area.

How open carry is seen by others, whether as a deterrent or an opportunity to die, to me is irrelevant ....so long as I can draw quickly and smoothly with as little chance of failure or delay.
