The extremely good reviews of this film are completely misleading,they are written by pretentious film academics.The film was boring from start to finish.The only praise I can give is for some great costumes and spectacular scenery shots,but that is all.If the quality of a film is based on the budget and length of time it takes to make then The Assassin is a winner....but what a waste of time and money.

Terrific film. Not everyone's cup of tea and certainly an acquired taste. But no reason to be dismissive and insulting to those that appreciate it to call th pretentious. Not every film is made for every viewer's taste, to think otherwise is a common problem with viewers feeling entitled towards movies doing what they want them to do rather than meeting the picture on its own terms.

this doesn't actually look very nicely shot. some ugly whiteness in the lighting of some of those daylight shots. sometimes as long as a film has a dodgy aspect ratio it passes as a beautifully shot film
