  • Goin over the absolute basics you need to be an adequate ukulele player. It's all about knowing the chords in one key, and then being able to transpose those same shapes and see them in any key. Watch this video to learn where we get the chords from:

    A little about me:
Sean Daniel is a man. A man of simple needs and desires. And the one desire, no, the one NEED, that stands above all is to spread the challenges, joy and intellectual stimulus of music to people of Earth and beyond.
Born on the mean streets of upper middle class suburban Chicago, Sean learned the ways of the world through the dizzying heights of success to the lonesome depths of failure and emerged with the promise of a better tomorrow reflecting in his eyes and fiery passion in his belly.
He plays and teaches guitar on his TH-cam channel where he regularly releases original music and projects to the adulation of legions of fans, who often compare him to Chris Pratt and one time Ryan Reynolds. He’s currently in the market for a nice leather jacket.

The best Uke tip I ever received was from the Mele Ukulele store in Maui. The strings are the same as the top (highest) 4 strings on a guitar, just with a capo on the 5th fret. With that wisdom, seeking out and understanding the chord shapes made a lot more sense.
    Great vid, as always, Sean.

Capo your guitar on the 5th fret. Only use the 1st four strings (4 highest),
Except for the octave G you have a ukuelele. All the guitar positions in that range
    Translate to the uke.

If you are a guitar player, simply play the fifth chord of any guitar chord without 5th and 6th strings of the guitar. For example, C->G, Am->Em, F->C, G->D, etc. You don't actually need to "learn" the instrument and can play it right away.

Good point. Guitarists already know the ukulele chords if they just transpose the chord name because the tuning intervals between strings are the same, but the notes the ukulele strings are tuned to differ by a fourth (or fifth if going the other way). I came here to see if this was part of any TH-cam video "ukulele for guitar players" tips because my grandchild recently got a ukulele and I just discovered this for myself...and yes, it's well documented in the comments.

I found ukelele chords for *Le Bal Des Laze* once, but they seem to have gone missing. They seemed to work fine on the guitar, though. (Or more likely I went out of tune, out of key, and was happy not to know this).
Very sentimental song. Jane's ex lover hides in a Shrubbery, fists clenched, watching Jane dance with her new fiancé at the grand ball the Chateau (an English chateau, though) of Lord and Lady Laze. As he stares, he feels himself dying of hate ... And then apparently he murders everyone at some point. I got lost in the translation at some point.
Michel Polnaref picked exactly the church whose sound he wanted for the ambiance of the recording. The organ is a real one, not a form of synth.
Here: th-cam.com/video/tPxajzP-2jQ/w-d-xo.html (very pretty song, for all its violent sentimentality)

I thought Paolo Sala used a ukelele in his labour of love (a cover down to the last loving detail of *The Everso Closely Guarded Line* - this th-cam.com/video/DtB4tEAesgA/w-d-xo.html ), but it looks like it's some kind of 6 stringed "Italian ukelele".
He produces some sound effects you might enjoy messing around with, using a screwdriver as a kind of "ebow", it looks like.
