Roger stern is responsible for most of what are considered the top ten best Spidey stories of all time. Nothing can stop the juggernaut. Kid who collects spider-man. In fairness, he did get to tell that Hobgoblin story the way he intended, about a crooked fashion designer who steals the green goblin costume and calls himself hobgoblin. This episode almost made me want to revisit the omnibus.

Still not my favorite hobgoblin. Can’t deny the kid who collects spider-man. Stern is also responsible for the peters parents being shield secret agents. And now peter has a long lost sister?

@@alrock024 I don't know that his parents were ever SHIELD agents, they both worked for the CIA. Their spy status was invented long before Stern, but he confirmed they were CIA agents in an issue of Untold Tales.
Stern's Hobgoblin is the definitive take on the character, in my opinion (considering he invented him and revealed his identity). Which is your favorite?
And yes, Peter does have a long-lost sister now. I choose to ignore it.

@@alrock024 No Peter's parents being C.I.A. agents was created in ASM Annual #5 in the 60's and then Michelinie brought the plot line back. Stern had nothing to do with that.

(25:43) In Spectacular Spider-Man 57, Roger Stern improved the character, in this comic he was with a lady named Daphne. In this issue is described by Peter himself as a “Ladies’man” and “you can’t go with appearance”.
In SS 57, Rodrerick Kingsley called both girls by their right names (Unlike in AMS 250, when Daniel called the girl with a wrong name). And his Ladies’man behavior was carried to AMS 276 when along with a gal, Rod saw Flash insulting the Hobgoblin. (In Hobgoblin Lives 3 confirmed the Rod Kingsley the Ladies’man in AMS 276 was the real one).
Is too bad Rodrerick Kingsley only appeared thrice (SS 43, SS 48, SS 57) before AMS 238. He should have appeared a lot more before AMS 238.

Cant wait for the Hobgoblin episode. There's so much mess in that. Let me give some history.
Originally, the Hobgoblin was created by Roger Stern. Stern always intended that the Hobgoblin’s true identity would be Roderick Kingsley, and that his brother would pose as him in public to draw away suspicion from him. So he wrote 3 arcs, introducing and developing the Hobgoblin into a full fledged villain mastermind. He was Spider-Man’s greatest enemy by the end of the third arc, so when Roger Stern left and Tom DeFalco took over, DeFalco didn’t know what to do, as Stern’s plans for the Hobgoblin were a secret. So Stern told DeFalco and DeFalco, didn’t like the idea of Roderick Kingsley being the Hobgoblin, so he changed it to Richard Fisk, but wanted to wait to reveal anything about his identity. Ned wasn't even involved, until Owsley, who wanted to sabotage DeFalco, persistently pestered him until DeFalco finally, not wanting to give away the real plan, told him it was Ned. So DeFalco showed scenes with Ned to make him a red herring to Richard Fisk. Then, Owsley decided to cut the Richard Fisk scenes from the book, so Ned Leeds seemed like one of the only options. So DeFalco had to change the identity of the Rose to Richard Fisk. Then Owsley fired DeFalco before he could write the reveal and then killed off Ned Leeds to piss off DeFalco. Unfortunately, Owsley's stupidity left it in a terrible place when he gave the Hobgoblin reveal story to Peter David, who was wondering what he was going to do now that Ned's dead. Owsley told him to make it someone else, and then David said it was impossible because Ned was the only choice that made sense. So then the only option Peter David had was to write what he did in ASM #289, which he told Owsley didn't make sense, especially since they revealed the identity after the guy died and the final battle was against some random two-bit phony. So they put the story out, and this mess was created all because Owsley wanted to piss off DeFalco by killing Ned, thinking he was ruining DeFalco's continuity. DeFalco had the last laugh when he revealed that he never intended Ned to be the Hobgoblin, he intended it to be Richard Fisk. Roger Stern the original creator of the Hobgoblin, saw this as an opportunity to create an additional story, and over the years, fans disapproved of the ASM #289 ending, but more importantly, the replacement of the Hobgoblin. And Stern made some good points as to how Ned being the Hobgoblin made no sense because he was never as twisted or evil enough to be like the Hobgoblin, and there was no way a few random assassins could kill off the Hobgoblin. Finally, after years of requests, and after all the Clone Saga nonsense, Marvel allowed for Roger Stern to return and put forward his original plans, which were for Roderick Kingsley to be the Hobgoblin and to have the whole Daniel Kingsley posing as his brother thing. This is one of the only comic book retcons I think that was awesome, because it actually made sense, and it ended with an epic climax when Hobgoblin is finally outsmarted and defeated by Spider-Man and he pulls off the mask, revealing Roderick Kingsley.

Appreciate all the Roger Stern appreciation here. However, for the record, the statement that Stern’s writing career at Marvel began with his Spectacular Spider-Man assignment is incorrect. He already had written runs on Incredible Hulk (between Len Wein and Bill Mantlo’s runs on that book), a run on Dr. Strange (prior to his very memorable second run on that book with artists Marshall Rogers and Paul Smith), and last but not least, the original Guardians of the Galaxy team in Marvel Presents while he was editing books like Avengers (including Byrne’s second run on that book, 181-191) and of course the Claremont/Byrne/Austin X-Men. #legend

You talk about writing Kingsley as every horrible gay stereotype. Let's be honest it's not worse than the recent writing of the gay Iceman by a gay writer, Or the writing of the one guy on Will & Grace.

    Why don't the Annuals count?????

I believe Mark used to not have all the annuals so he would say they didn’t count to prove his Spidey geekdom to Dan... cause Dan would hold that over him lol.

That's exactly right. If Annuals count, I completed my collection first. If they don't count, Mark completed his collection first.
We will never agree and it will probably devolve into violence one of these days.
