WDM2 Locomotive is Avatar of Maa Kaali Swaroop not Amitab Bacchon most of Loco pilots believe it as Maa shakti.Loco pilots pray the Locomotive before taking charge of the duty before climbing the Locomotive, i asked the reason once the Loco pilot replied that we worship the Locomotive as Maa Kaali which can take balis on tracks if some animals while running we pray for safe journey while working.

I have a lot of fond memories for this locomotive. When I used to live in Assam (near Jorhat) in 1999-2001 (I was a small kid back then), we used to have these locos hauling the passenger trains, especially from Guwahati to Jorhat (daytime journeys). Everything from the black smoke, the intense chugging, and the deep maroon livery of these locos was oddly satisfying. The passenger trains in those days had very short rakes (8 - 10 coaches), so a single loco was good enough to haul these trains. The ALCO chugging in particular was a great thing to hear, it gave the sense of aggression in the moving loco.

Wdm2 hero of Indian Railways
I have travelled many times in the wdm2 hauled Rajdhani express between Mumbai and New Delhi. Until the mid 80s, a single Ratlam shed wdm2 would haul the 7 or 8 coach Rajdhani . The max speed of 120 kmph meant that a single wdm2 could only haul that many coaches. Later the number of coaches were doubled and the train would be hauled by 2 wdm2s . I believe that these Ratlam shed wdm2s for the Rajdhani were geared higher and so their hauling capacity was somewhat lowered in order to attain a 120 kmph top speed. Even after the advent of the WAP4 locomotive, twin wdm2s were still used between Mumbai and Ratlam.
Yes, the locos of Ratlam were actually re-geared to attain a high top speed. Also, even with the advent of WAP 4 locomotive, there was a change in electrification from AC to DC at Igatpuri, so there would have been a loco change anyway. Rather than change to a slower DC locomotive, the call was taken to change to a fast diesel loco at Ratlam itself to preserve the average speed of the train.
Only after the WCAM-2P locos were developed which could haul at high speeds was the new electric regime adopted where a WCAM-2P would haul the train till BRC, where a WAP-4 would take over.

WDM 2 Jumbo version ko Maine bahut pehle New Delhi se Sri Ganganagar ke beech Toofan Express mei dekha tha, fir ek baar Delhi se Shikohabad ke beech Kalindi Express mei dekha tha & last time Mathura mei ek Maal gaadi ke Sath dekha tha (Jamalpur Shed ka).

I had seen wdm2 jumbo locos hauling express and freight trains while I studied at school from 1988 to 1990.In 1990 or 89 I had seen a single jumbo loco going at great speed hauling a freight train ( might be not loaded but there were bogies ie freight) it was at night when I was returning from the hostel to my house by a passenger train and at those times there were no double lines and we had to wait till the other train had passed. This inscident was while I was studying in a hostel far away from my house at 9th standard. I have a doubt ie u had described about wdm2a did wdm2 only had vaccum brakes ie the loco before wdm2a?
Yes , Early units only featured vaccum brakes 😅 .

I cannot forget that nearly in 2015 or 16 I used to travel in Chandigarh Jaipur Intercity Express( now Daulatpur Chowk - Sabarmati BG Express) once in 2-3 months 16718 and 16717 ABR WDM2 hauls it.

Pune loco shed was last seen using 1 jumbo nearly 4 years ago for shunting ..There were two with Pune shed .Now scrapped..Have seen Itarsi,Ratlam Jumbos
