- After finishing my 100 day project I hade to set sail for a new project. I have given it some thought, what to do now. It was the 1,4 meter long earth pigment dyed fabric that gave me the idea. A scroll with slow stitching. Right now I have no idea what to do, or expect. Time will show. So exciting. For a couple of Fridays there will be a new video with the developing on the scroll from the week.

Your speech about the worth of "doing" something and not giving value to the piece you made, was so comforting for me! All my life I've been making things for the enjoyment of the moment, to calm my mind, to escape the daily tensions. Friends and family often say "You invested in materials, sell it! Do something with all that creativity, make money out of it...". I do not want to do that! I put all my creations (accompanied by a small explanation card) in my "Heritage box", a gift for the next generation. They can do whatever they want with all those treasures, but I truly hope they will feel happiness and love for the materials, and realize how much I loved making them!
Sometimes I feel very alone with my feelings about my approach to crafting and stitching so nice to hear from a likeminded 🙏👍
@@martinelateste4558 my feeling’s exactly! Not sure how my kids will feel about my “Heritage box,” but I won’t be around to care. As long as I do what pleases me and keeps me sane, that’s all that matters.
@@megfowler4177 that’s the right attitude 🙏😊
Years ago I did sell my coiled basket, and other things, and the pressure of making for selling took all the enjoyment and love out of it! Thank you for your comment 🤗❤️
@@mariaconti9704 I know how you feel. I hated doing commissions in my past and still do.
I think all art is about the process and not the end result. The end result is a memory for me that can give pleasure many years later.. Every winter I put my large crochet blanket on my bed. It is very colorful but I always remember the cottage by the river and the happy times I spent there. I find French knots difficult especially now my fingers are arthritic. My mother taught me a knot she called French knots but recently I discovered they are called pinch knots. I use some of my slow stitch bits on recycled clothing or for journal covers.
Nice story and thanks for telling me
Lisbeth I share your feelings about slow stitching a piece for the sheer joy and that’s it. Your stitching is beautiful and calming! Thank you❣️
Nice to hear and thank you
I agreed with slow stitching for the joy and not watching the clock while having fun.
Well said 👍
Very gorgeous!!! Thank you for showing us another dimension to slow stitching. Hugs ❤
You’re welcome
So interesting to watch the scroll progress. You always find interesting bits to include.. I especially like the silk pods. And the variety of stitches add to the overall effect. Really lovely ❤
Thank you
I am a slowstitcher myself and there is nothing more relaxing and therapeutic than when I do it for myself and there is NOT a purpose for it, other than giving myself quality time.
Could not have said it better myself 👍😊
Your scroll is beautiful, i enjoyed watching and listening to you. Thank you. ❤
Thank you
Beautiful scroll! I enjoyed your commentary about slow stitching . After years of selling my art for a living, I feel very fortunate to be retired and not have to be concerned about time and value.
Thank you and yes that’s one of the nice thing when you become elderly 😊
Your scroll is beautiful and unique. Exquisite workmanship ❤
Thank you
So beautiful how your creative mind works and can put it all together with such ease❤️
Thank you 🙏
Marvelous work Lisbeth, it is a precious piece!
Thank you
A tremendous project with beautiful work
Thank yoy
Such beautiful work, thank you for sharing and ispiring Lisbeth. ❤❤❤
Thanks and you’re welcome
an artist friend gave me the best response to the "how long did that take? " question. She said "tell them it took you 50 years"
😊 that was a good one. Think I will use it.
Oh, my goodness, I get those questions all the time on instagram: “how long did it take you to stitch that?” And I look at the question and I feel like answering: how am I supposed to know?
And the other question: “what are you going to do with all those things you do?” Even if it’s a pouch or a bag, which may be obvious what I am going to do with them, I get that question! So strange! If it’s a pouch or a bag, I’m going to put things inside, of course.
In Portugal, where the weather is usually warm and sometimes hot in summer, this year, we’ve been having rain! Today, the sun came! Finally!
Your scroll is looking so so beautiful! The colours remind me of a sunny autumn afternoon with the gold leaves on the ground! I really love it 🤎🧡💛🤎🧡💛🤎🧡💛🤎🧡💛
Hi Alexandra. Yes that is strange questions, but nice to hear that I am not the only one who get them.
Thanks for your kind words. 😊
Lisbeth, I agree with you, 200%, plus, about the slow stitching. The questions we get about doing it are strange and funny all at the same time.
I honestly do feel sorry for these people. Stitching, beading, etc, etc… are so very relaxing, if you just enjoy doing it without rules. Ass I’ve heard you say, your in control of it and there’s no stitching police😂. I do all my art, for me and if people like and enjoy it, that’s the icing on the cake.
TYFS🫶🏻🤗❤️
Thank you for writing this. In all my 67 year I haven’t met the stitch police yet 😉. So let’s keep on doing what we like to do and enjoy it.
@@lisbethdegn-dragenkunst FYI, I never saw them either in my first 6 years in Argentina nor the last 66 in America! 🤣😂😅🤗❤️
Lucky us 😊
Love your beautyful work Lisbeth. Think, that i beginn something else. Greetings from Germany Anke
Thanks and good luck with your project
hi lisbeth, i am in the south of france and here too we are having not normal weather. yesterday was 32C and today was 22C. 22 is cool when you are used to 35! :) loving your scroll.
Thank you, there certainly is something wrong with the climate
Love everything you create!
Thank you
I was thinking I could make some cocoons out of paper and lay them flat like you did. Thanks for sharing your ideas, I like the sticks at the end of the video too.
Thanks and go for it.
Absolutely beautiful. Thank you
Thanks and you’re welcome
the most beautiful piece of clothe ever seen since museum pieces of the Reinascence
Thanks for your kind words
That was a speech after my own heart Lisbeth (although sometimes I also wonder how long it takes to make something😎), the process is the most precious part! And yes, as I am watching your video it is poring with rain here and I am wondering if I should unpack my winter clothes again….! I’m not sure but did I hear you say you are using some Ice dyed fabric? I have not heard that before. Maybe you can show us some time when winter comes. All parts of this scroll are pieces of art by itself, beautiful as always. For me the slowstitching or collage process is also about the ‘touch’ (and sounds!) of the different materials. I imagine your scroll is just lovely to feel in the hands! 💖🍀
Hi Machteld. I was a little nervous because of my pretty hush comments on the subject of slow stitching and doing it for the pure purpose to enjoy and not make it to a thing. But I have such nice comments. About Ice dying on fabric. In fact is quite simple. You prepare the fabric with a mordant and then place the fabric in a bucket. Lay a sieve on top full of ice cubes. Sprinkle the pigments ( Procion MX ) in 2-3 different colors on the top of the ice. Slowly the ice will melt and drip into the fabric as it wants to. It is not a thing you can control. I will give a blooming pattern. Hop you can understand my explanation.
@@lisbethdegn-dragenkunst mostly people are very result- driven but slow stitching is so slow that you can’t escape the process. And that is where the magic happens, in the process 😀
The ice dying sounds doable and actually a wonderful project for a summer day🍀💖🌞
@@dailydoseofpaper exactly 🙏
I do a lot of slow stitched projects and always have people ask me how long it took! Your explanation is perfect! I always want to respond with what don’t you understand about slow stitching! I saw a funny response to this question when someone asked how do you get started slow stitching? The answer was to start slow! I just thought that was funny🙃
Yes. It’s quite funny we always get those questions
Thank you!😊
🙏
Please would you give us some more information about dyeing with earth pigments? The colours on this scroll are lovely 👍👍👍❤️❤️
I attended a payed course myself and I can only say. You need to have some earth pigments ( and you can bye different colors) and a binder. Mix them and paint your fabric. Some use soy milk as a binder. I use one you only can bye here in Denmark. In the scroll I used yellow ochre and burnt umbra
Lovely 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you
Beautiful work. Love the colours x
Thank you
Lisbeth, it was so refreshing to hear your thoughts on slow stitching! Your views on the subject are why I enjoy watching you so much. I’m a bit put out by those that rush from one project to the next, hurrying to finish so they can start another. Sadly they miss the whole meaning of slow stitching.
Love your scroll and your channel!❤️
So glad to hear that from you. 🙏👍
Arte hecho con amor...puntadas con sentimientos ❤
🙏
Beautiful work. I think I will make one. Thank you 😊
Thanks and glad for it.
Lov lov lov 🔅🔆🔅🫶💐🤎🦊🦊🤎
Thanks Uschi
THe ring on your righT hand and your scroll look like they go together. Did you make the ring, too? I love your choices for the colors of dyed fabrics, the stitches, and the embellishments.
Thank you. No I don’t make my rings. All my life I have bought rings I fancy and could afford from independent silversmiths. Like to support other artists.
Bom dia flor do dia meu girassol 🌻 🌻 🌻 🌻 adorei seu trabalho muito delicado parabéns mil beijinhos 🌻 💋 🌻 💋 🌻
thank you
I actually have no desire to make to sell. What I make is mine unless I choose to give to others.
Nice thoughts 🙏
Nice if you are process driven. I'm not and I am perfectionist. I've tried slow stitching, it just irritates the hell out of me. I want to produce something good. So good luck to you. We are all different and you are not better than me. I must say that the pointlessness and the fiddliness of a scroll shows the difference between us. Why? Why? Why would you do that to stick on a shelf, not even displayed on a wall. It's beautiful what you produced. I know you enjoyed making it. So it's now just a bit of clutter. Ah well....
Of course I am not better than you ore anyone.else. We all must do what pleases us( as long as we don’t hurt others)
