Inspired by God.. truth. The change and realization it created to bring his people back to the right path… lots of movies and songs are inspired by God. Poetry books art.. how soothing is nature, a walk in the woods. A flower in the desert, the sound of the wind etc.

It's a powerful tribute to his ability that before "American History X" I couldn't possibly have imagined him in that role, and then after seeing him in it... I can't possibly imagine anyone else doing so well with it.
Agreed. I think the same thing was being said about Heath Ledger as the Joker. Before that role, he was seen as this sensitive, good-looking, charming boy and he had roles to match that image. Nobody expected him to do well as a scary, psychotic, evil, mastermind. Then he just delivered probably one of the best villain roles of all time.

The movie was based off of a book loosely called Autobiography of a recovering skinhead. He’s my really good friend Frank Meeink. If you are a fan of the movie try giving the book a read. Hollywood embellished a lot compared to the book, like getting raped in prison, but Frank was Derek Vineyard in real life. Frank has helped me through a lot of my own struggles growing up in a gang in Chicago and moving past it. Hatred claims many victims along the way but you never realize it until it’s too late most of the time. Great movie and acting on Norton’s part as well.

@Vincent Verona That was the point. Most racism, when you break it down, is poorly thought out and simply comes from a place of bias and ignorance. The part of the performance isn't the words he's saying, it's the conviction with which he's saying them.

They'll probably never make another movie like American history X. Too real and too raw for the snowflakes but in reality it sheds light on the underbelly of America
I live in the American Gardens building on West 81st Street, on the 11th floor. My name is Patrick Bateman. I'm 27 years old. I believe in taking care of myself, in a balanced diet, in a rigorous exercise routine. In the morning, if my face is a little puffy, I'll put on an ice pack while doing my stomach crunches. I can do 1, 000 now. After I remove the ice pack, I use a deep pore cleanser lotion. In the shower, I use a water-activated gel cleanser then a honey-almond body scrub, and on the face, an exfoliating gel scrub. Then I apply an herb mint facial mask, which I leave on for ten minutes while I prepare the rest of my routine. I always use an aftershave lotion with little or no alcohol, because alcohol dries your face out and makes you look older. Then moisturizer, then an anti-aging eye balm, followed by a final moisturizing protective lotion. There is an idea of a Patrick Bateman. Some kind of abstraction. But there is no real me, only an entity, something illusory, and though I can hide my cold gaze and you can shake my hand and feel flesh gripping yours, and maybe you can even sense our lifestyles are probably comparable, I simply am not there.
One of the most incredible acting performances of all time. It's up there with de Niro in the deer hunter or James Gandolfini as Tony soprano. It's so incredible
Both Rounders and American History X released in the same year, and you get to see a total different Edward Norton in both; that's what I call superb acting. I have respect for type casted actors, but Norton is the classical definition of acting.
25th Hours is one of my favorite movies ever. Even for Norton fans it flies under the radar. He has one of the most powerful monologues of all time in that film-in the bathroom mirror. Incredible film.
American History X was mainly Norton's Movie. He changed the script, he trained his role very serious he even visit a real skinhead group to know them - how they think how they feel how they life. Than Norton used this experience for this film. That's why the movie looks so realistic.
I knew Norton as the character in American History X and Fight Club, which I think were two films that had a lot of fanfare especially from young guys around my age at the time. And the People vs. Larry Flynt was a great movie, too. Ed Norton has a unique and great list of roles that he has played.
Ed and his agent we're responsible for having Final Cut taking away from Tony kaye on this film only to make him look more favorable in the movie. It was going to be darker than what it actually was so Tony Kaye takes his name off of the film and then was blackballed in Hollywood for the next 10 years cuz of Ed Norton.

@@josephgray6700 put him in front of a mirror, things get interesting real quick.

Two things, High Speed.
1. All Actors are suppose to be Chameleons. Research acting methods.
2. " You're not watching a celebrity,you're watching the character. "
This (is fucking cringey) isn't at the fault of the actor, but the lack of being able to separate the actor from his characters (your fault).
"You see this? It means not welcome!" That scene from american history x was so intense
I always feel bad for that guy and his nose...

That's why it's such a good movie. You sympathize with a violent racist murderer. You understand how he got where he is. He wants to change but he cant move on from the past because, either he cant accept what he's done, or because he's being dragged back to a worse version of himself by people he cared about. A very intelligent character study about the affects of institutional racism and the roots of it

Yeah I was wondering about the question. He asks him if it's difficult to keep going after an iconic role, but he has had multiple iconic roles. So that makes it much easier to keep going actually.
American History X is one of the greatest films ever made. Edward Norton deserved an Oscar for it. I saw it as a teenager and just had my teenage son watch it. He loved it too.

I would love to see Norton and Pitt get together again under the direction of Tarantino.

What good do your bring to the world by being such a tool?
“When people don’t know what to do with you, you get to decide”. That’s great
His first film role was "Primal Fear." Talk about hitting the ground running.
And in the next 3 years were rounders, fight club, and American history x. Range personified.
AHX was a masterpiece of a movie. Such hard hitting and great acted by everyone. I always said Edward Furlong should have been the next DiCapiro after that performance
He's a method actor, he really immersed himself into his character in American History X to the point he received some backlash, I'm sure he needed some down time to climb back out of that character. He was amazing.
It’s crazy to see these amazing actors age. To realize kids today won’t ever realize their massive effect on the film industry they made and how amazing of actors they use to be
Yeah fr. It seems only movies that seem to get play are action superhero movies where the emphasis is not really on the characters and acting etc so we don't really see too much of these stories and their actors making waves

Anyone who hasn’t seen American History X SEE IT TONIGHT
On Netflix rn
I was watching Skin the other night and both me and my wife discussed American History X while watching this new movie Skin. We came to the conclusion that American History X was so good that if you watch any other movie of that genre, it just doesn't stand up and you end up saying "remember how good American history X was?"
Its a great movie.
It's on Netflix so they can definitely see it.
This guy gets it
Edward norton should do roles like narrator in the fight club he really nailed it. He's one of the greatest
One of the most accurately depicted, beautifully written and filmed pieces of socio political commentary ever created. Everyone should have to watch this movie atleast once but sadly nowadays this would get silenced by people who take it at face value because they are unwilling to see how impactfully brilliant and deep it is
Inspired by God.. truth. The change and realization it created to bring his people back to the right path… lots of movies and songs are inspired by God. Poetry books art.. how soothing is nature, a walk in the woods. A flower in the desert, the sound of the wind etc.
Sadly it was silenced then. That is Hollywood for you. Same thing with American Sniper. And oddly enough the same thing with Straight outta Compton. Hollywood is hypocritical
Hail satan
I'd like to see a movie with Norton, Bale, Phoenix and Hardy. Some of the best actors imo
Chris Universe THE BEST!
Naked

My favourite role of his by far is fight club, then American history x then primal fear then 25th hour
25th hour is so damn underrated.
What about "The Score?"
The score is another underrated classic.
Rounders.
Damn I loved 25th hour. Rosario Dawson was good in it too.
This guy taught must of us what curb stomping is. It’s one thing to hear it described in history books, but the filming of it and “doing it” on screen forever imprinted it in our brain circuits.
American History X is one of those films that stays with you for a few days after you watch it. That twinkle in his eye as he's getting cuffed on his knees in the street is spine chilling.
Dude put on hella muscle for his role in American History X
I wonder how many times hes walked down the street and someone yells
"Hey Vinyard!"
🤣🤣
Cornelius !?
'Go easy on the brothers'

It's a powerful tribute to his ability that before "American History X" I couldn't possibly have imagined him in that role, and then after seeing him in it... I can't possibly imagine anyone else doing so well with it.
Agreed. I think the same thing was being said about Heath Ledger as the Joker. Before that role, he was seen as this sensitive, good-looking, charming boy and he had roles to match that image. Nobody expected him to do well as a scary, psychotic, evil, mastermind. Then he just delivered probably one of the best villain roles of all time.
@@neemnoa303perhaps there is something to be said about how society depicts psychopaths and their antagonistic traits versus the innate darkness in the ones we view as harmless.
Brilliant in this movie. Somehow makes the character charismatic in his brutality then so vulnerable when he breaks... a character arc that has to be seen to be believed.
Hatred claims many victims along
the way but you never realize it until it’s too late most of the time. Great movie and acting on Norton’s part as well.
Yes! Everyone should read that book!
The curb stomping scene is up there with the hobbling in Misery as some of the most disturbingly realistic violence in movies.

@Vincent Verona That was the point. Most racism, when you break it down, is poorly thought out and simply comes from a place of bias and ignorance. The part of the performance isn't the words he's saying, it's the conviction with which he's saying them.
@Vincent Verona could u elaborate on a specific point?
Dude fight club was soo good. Edward N. You are a legend love you !
Love Joe's Podcast and love y'alls channel For making his Podcast more accessible but I do have a suggestion.
What about putting time stamps in your descriptions in case anybody wants to see a continuation of your clip on his main video. Like as in this clip begins at 36:00 and ends at 41:08. Again just a suggestion but that would actually make things a lot easier I think for everyone involved and makes it much more attainable for those intrested in certain parts of his Podcast but don't have time to sit through the full 3 hours.
More work for Young Jamie
@Top Shelf Fandom these uploads don’t give time-stamps from when they occur in the full episode. Jamie could easily be marking down the times of each topic as the conversation flows
Never going to see time stamps. Would’ve happened years ago, or still be happening, if Not so Young James had ever put any.
Timestamps are great if you're really in a hurry.
It's also quite a bit of work to do in the span of 3 hours.
But come on. It's Ed Norton. You can't listen to the whole thing?
Also here's an idea. Listen, pause it, and come back later! I know....I know. I'm a genius.

He's so good at taking on roles and getting into character that it drives his co-workers insane
Doesn’t come out often enough, please do more movies & talkies Ed
It makes sense that he isn't tied down to one role, because he's such a good actor that several of his roles are iconic. Primal Fear for instance

Both Rounders and American History X released in the same year, and you get to see a total different Edward Norton in both; that's what I call superb acting. I have respect for type casted actors, but Norton is the classical definition of acting.
I wish he make more movies. He’s my favorite actor.
25th Hours is one of my favorite movies ever. Even for Norton fans it flies under the radar. He has one of the most powerful monologues of all time in that film-in the bathroom mirror. Incredible film.
Love that film! Spike Lee's best imo
Funny you say that…
i think we all can agree Norton is one of the greatest actors of his generation and the generations that followed.
It's crazy in a span of one year he went from buff shape in American history X to skinny limp in Fight club that shows how much great actor he is!
He's been in so many awesome movies.
Ed Norton is like Garth Algar's smarter brother.
Yes
Best comment i think ive ever seen lol
Hey... I fixed the oven with a butter knife.
Norton should finish off his career with a bang and play Hitler in a movie about WW2.
American History X was mainly Norton's Movie. He changed the script, he trained his role very serious he even visit a real skinhead group to know them - how they think how they feel how they life. Than Norton used this experience for this film. That's why the movie looks so realistic.
I can't imagine anyone but Edward Norton and Edward Furlong in those two roles. They both deserved more recognition for their performances.
Ironic that a guy so flawlessly acting out parts seemed to have some trouble articulating his thoughts to Rogan.
This guy is an amazing entertainer. His performances are so great and memorable that I have to watch him every day.... And Edward Norton is great too...
American History X and Fight Club are two of the greatest movies ever made, Edward Norton should be very proud of having been the mains in them. You reached max level in those roles bro 💪
As much as American History X angered me to the point I couldn't finish it every time I'd say I was going to watch the whole this time, once I finally sat through the entire movie, it was the most moving story I'd ever watched and honestly Edward Norton was extremely ballsy to do it because he had no way of telling if he'd have a future as an actor after it. He really put everything he had into his character
Why would he not have a career after it even if the movie was panned???
