Here is a super simple hand sewn bag liner for your crochet bag projects. If you want to machine sew (or not sew at all) just follow the steps in the video and replace the hand stitching.
I used a simple running/straight stitch for this but if you are concerned that it isn't strong enough, then I would recommend a "back stitch" instead. There are many videos on youtube on how to help you do this.

Here is a really easy liner that can be applied to any shape of crochet bag that you're working on. I use a "running/straight" stitch but if you are concerned that it won't be a tight enough join, I would recommend a "backstitch". That will give you a join that is more similar to a sewing machine. I haven't had issues with the running stitch but just wanted to mention it in case. xx
I've been watching different tutorials on non-sewing machine methods and kept wondering "can't you just do a regular old straight stitch?" and apparently that answer is yes lol!! thanks for showing me that it can be as simple as I wanted it to be.
Haha that’s right! 🙌🏻💕
I was always scared to do a liner but this tutorial helped so much!! I'm definitely gonna start adding liners to my bags😍
Oh good, I’m so happy to read this 😀🙌🏻❤️

Good afternoon Roz hope you are enjoying your vacation . Thanks for today's video. If I'm hand sewing where it would not be seen on the right side I always do the backstitch so it would be more secure . Continue to enjoy your vacation.
Thank you! Yes, the backstitch is excellent. 💕🧶
A great tutorial! Thank you! ❤️
Thank you ! 🤗
Bless you, just what I needed, I can't use a sewing machine and wanted to make a liner to sew myself...And then, a no sew option too?? Brilliant!!! Thank you so much!
So glad it helped!! 😀🧶❤️
i love this tutorial, i keep seeing ones with a sewing machine and honestly i haven’t done that in years so i’m quite intimidated to try again so seeing u do it by hand very simply was nice. Cant wait to try it! :)

Thank you so much!! I've always wanted to add a liner to crochet bags, but not being a great sewer, I've not had the courage to try it. You've made this so simple to follow and I will definitely have a go now! 😊
I’m so glad!! 😀🤗👏🏻👏🏻💕
Love that bee fabric you used!
I was excited to find it ! 😆
This is great, thank you 💖
Thank you !
Very good video
Thank you! This is great 😊
Thank you !
I really love with this tutorial, so simple! I used to scared to do lining, but now i don't!
I'm so glad! 😀👏🏻💕
Thank you needed this 😀
😀👏🏻💕
Love this!!! I have very little sewing experience but I’d love to find a way to put a light lining into a light-weight black backpack. The dimensions won’t be as simple but I can figure that out. The part I’m caught on is how to fasten it. Obviously I’ll stay away from using an iron to avoid melting the bag. Stitching the lining may compensate the integrity of the bag. Thanks!
I really appreciate that you showed how to do this without a sewing machine. I don't have one, so hand sewing is my only option and I never know what stitch to use when they just say "sew along"
So glad it helped. Hand sewing is relaxing - nice benefit 👍🏻💕
Thank you for this as I have 2 bags to add liners to
Great! 😀💖
I love you work
Thank you so much 💕
I love this
Awesome, I’m so glad, thank you 💕
It was GREAT help! Thank you!
I don't sew, and I was so worried about this but you made it look easy, you explained it well and gave me confidence to do it. It worked well (although, I did "cheat" a used tape glue for the top flap 😅) ❤
It’s not cheating! 🙌🏻 glad you found the video useful and that you gave it a try, yay! 😀💕
Hi Roz,
Thank you for sharing this amazing tip.
If I make any bag, purse, or other item that requires a liner I’m definitely using this tip.
Take care and stay safe and well. God’s blessings 🙏🏽💗🧶😻👛
Enjoy your holiday.
Thank you , so glad you liked it 💕🪡

Thanks for the tutorial. I really liked you bag, need to make that first. Lol
Thank you ! 🧶💕
Thank you so much for your videos! 💜 I began learning how to crochet 3 weeks ago and your way of teaching has been incredibly helpful. I'm currently working on a granny square blanket and I've got 18 completed so far, I think. I just found your video on how to attach them with a lacy braided look and I can't wait to use it! I'm using heavy yarn and it'll give it a lighter look 😊 thank you!
How exciting!! I hope the lacy join works well for you! Thank you for telling me 😀🧶💕
Great tutorial, I think I will try to line my crocheted bags for the first time today
Hi Roz , love love your tutorials, always so well explained and this one on lining of the bag is absolutely amazing. I have always bought cotton bags from Amazon and used them for lining the crochet granny square bags that i do a lot ( in the last two years I have crocheted about fifteen granny square bags for friends and families) and the bags cost quite a bit but that’s cheating 😂is it not? But I have learned now from your tutorial how easy it is to line a bag , a big big thank you and by the way I just love your voice, i could just listen to you all day long and your have inspired me a lot too, love all your tutorials.
Love Hasu from London Uk 👍❤️🙏🏻❤️
What a lovely message , thank you so much. I like to buy the bag inserts too! I get the linen bags that already have handles on them so talk about cheating! 🫢🤣🤣
I’m so glad you found the video useful, thanks for watching 😀🤗🧶💕
Wow, thanks so much, I’ve made a few little bags, it’s been suggested to me to line them, but, I just don’t sew, even a button scares me 😂. But, now I’ve seen your wonderful tutorial, I feel more relaxed. ❤
Great , I’m so glad it helped … it really is super easy ! And it doesn’t have to be perfect to be pretty , remember that 👍🏻💕
Thank you for the amazing and informative tutorial! Im crocheting matching bags for my sister and I, and I want to prevent the bag from stretching too much. Lol
🤗💕
Tip; if you don't have an iron maybe there's a hair straightener in your home. Use that lol! That's all I use for my sewing needs as i'm in a fema trailer and have no room for an iron. Works great!
(I'm back on this video bc im finally starting my lining😍)
Great tip!! 🙌🏻💕
Hi. I love the bag....do you have a tutorial about that one, would you mind sharing it?
Great tutorial. 😊 I always line my crocheted bags out of necessity, and I always make pockets on both sides of the bag liner. I also use a cotton fabric. I make one long rectangle pocket then sew 2 seams which make 3 smaller pockets to hold anything I need, I just cant tolerate not being able to organize my purse items.
Pockets are a great idea! Beautiful work ❤️
Is there a video for the cute crochet bag too? Adorable!
Yes! Link is under the video in the description box and also at the very beginning of this tutorial. I posted the tutorial last week so you should be able to easily find it on my page 🧶💕
You have an tutorial on making this hand bag it's so cute....
Yes, the link is in the description box below the video 👍🏻💕
this is a really helpful video and i appreciate it! im going to use this as a guide for my first crochet bag lining but im worried of how long it would take. im wondering how long did it take you to finish all the sewing?
That took me about an hour maybe an hour and a half since I was also recording . If you are new to it , it might take longer but you’ll soon get the hang of it 👌🏻💕
These are awesome options. I have made some beachy bags with large holes but people are complaining things will fall through and want a liner. They are super stretchy so how would i allow for material to enlarge also? Ugghhh.
It sounds like the type of bags you’ve made is designed to be more of a mesh style ?
Adding a liner to it isn’t t impossible , it just won’t expand like it did before the liner.
I’d recommend using an old sheet to “practice” on. Do this method and add a liner to one of your bags and see how it looks. Just do a loose stitch around so that you can easily remove after he experiment.
It might work well , it might not. But if it does, then you can redo it with nice fabric and take better care with the sewing. 👍🏻
Wonderful tutorial! But I’m always worried that just a runners stitch would be not be strong enough for the liner so I use a double runner instead
Or the back stitch would be a great option 👍🏻💕 thanks for watching !
How would you do this for a baby blanket? I've been stumped on a no sew fabric backing to a baby blanket
You would do it very similar to this by getting a big square of fabric maybe a half inch bigger all the way around (1/4 inch on each side) then you would fold it in to give a nice folded edge that fits nicely behind the crochet blanket . Then hand stitch or use your favorite gluing technique.
Here’s another video where I show no sew options that might help give you some more ideas :
th-cam.com/video/MYjEfF6Me4s/w-d-xo.htmlsi=RsutclSM6wMDxCkN
Hey! Do I have to sew the bottom too?
Only if you aren’t folding it. If you fold your fabric in two, then no you don’t need to sew it. 👍🏻💕
Which of the two methods hold better or require less experience?
Sewing holds better but gluing is easier if you have less experience. I’d recommend sewing because it’s very easy by hand and you’ll catch on quickly. ❤️
Ok, thank you!
I didn't understand the no sew part. Was the opening of the lining ironed shut?
The opening? No , I’m not quite sure what you aren’t understanding. You’re using the glue in replacement of the sewing. Maybe watching the Ewing version will help
Clarify it for you 💕
technically I had no need for this but now I'm thinking about lining one of the bags I made as a christmas present for my mum hmm
You know, I'm sort of in the same boat. I have a beanie I want to crochet and realized I can add a fleece liner to it easily with this same method. lol Thanks for watching xx
Wouldn’t the edges of the liner fray?
In my experience, not enough that it’s going to affect your seam. It’s not in an area where it will get a lot of friction . If you are concerned by that you can always add a little fray glue to the edge but like I said , it hasn’t been an issue for me.
Sorry, I'm not watching right. I saw it already. Thank you.
Thanks for this. Very easy and useful information. 🧶💕
Thank you, I’m glad you liked it 😀🧶💕
