The violins are so beautiful in this song. It's always beautiful every time I listen. They have just a strong melodic flow that exhibits the softness and yet passion of the singer (any singer but mainly Shirley Bassey). It's not abrasive or forceful or anything bad. Or that's just how I take it (shrugs)
Well, Connery did quit, totally, after You Only Live Twice. George Lazenby did OHMSS, but between his own hubris and bad advice from others, left the series. The producers begged Connery to come back and do Diamonds. Money talks, so do future fill deal commitments by the production house, United Artists. Connery got paid a lot to do Diamonds and the producers convinced UA to give Connery a multi-film deal so he could produce films that he was passionate about. Anyway, the movie is actually quite good, the store moves around a lot, and the concept of the reclusive millionaire that nobody sees that lives in the penthouse of his casino hotel, and conducts business on the phone (an homage to Howard Hughes), was a pretty good story vehicle. Connery had a very “mature” appearance in the film, I think more fitting the bond character than nearly 10 years earlier when the series started. All the Bond films have strengths and weaknesses when compared to each other. It is almost always best to let the individual films stand on their own two feet as most of them really can.
The DSNO is actually the Danish public tax paid DR1 TV orchestra which is the Danish equivalent to the English BBC1 orchestra, so they are all about TV, film and popular orchestra music (like PC games), as you will find if you look up their other TV concerts. They also do concerts for small children to raise their general knowledge and musical IQ, so personally I think they are World class at what they do.
Loved the concert but they put way too many james bond tracks in it, i always like more variety when something is themed like this concert. Not a single track from the Bourne saga for instance

Shirley Bassey sings admirably and leave her signature on the song. Applause, standing ovation, but it doesn't touch my little heart either. Listening to Angelina Jordan, 12 years old, same soundtrack, and, finally, i shed tears of diamonds, because innocent purety is already singing her disenchantment and disillusion credibly without any vocal ornementation.The conveyance of emotion operates heart to heart, like it should. Which interpretation of this theme song will i caught myself softly humming from now on?
Would Shirley Bassey be able to sound like Tina Turner, or the other way around ? ... Caroline Henderson was hired to do both and that is not easy at all.

I like how they stayed true to the original instrumentation and didn’t try to “interpret” it for a more modern sound. Great production.
