Through analysis of thousands of recorded fights, the barrelmancer has determined that the geometric distribution and number of antagonists in any battle is a statistically irrelevant element. The barrelmancer treats the barrel as a total weapon, each barrel position representing a maximum kill zone, inflicting maximum damage on the maximum number of opponents, while keeping the defender clear of the statistically traditional zones of explosions. By the rote mastery of this art, your killing efficiency will rise by no less than 1,200,000 percent. The difference of a 630,000 percent increased lethal proficiency makes the master of barrelmancy an adversary not to be taken lightly.
Other players: "So, how did you beat the devil in the game? Holy water, magical weapons or perfect ambush?" Barrelmancer player: "... ancient problem requires modern day solution."
*after raphael appears in act1* everyone: emmm my friend ....why are you gathering all this barrels anyway? me: ...who me? *scoff* nothing for...just hanging around with em
A more efficient strat is to stack smokepowder bombs (single stack so they all drop and detonate, otherwise only one out of a stack will blow up) or concussive bombs (you can pick up the bombs from the gortash fight, they deal 37-120 thunder dmg its nuts) inside a destructible container like a backpack or barrel, have a high str character chuck it, and then shoot an arrow or fireball or something at the dropped explosives once the barrel has broken open by impact. Less laggy explosions (they tend to go off sequentially when very close proximity) and you don't need excess. Using concussive bombs with this strat I killed ansur (400 HP) with a single characters turn, which was my barbarian which got two attacks (throw the pack and then shoot an arrow at the dropped materials). It was dramatic overkill, which leads me to believe that killing raphael with this strat would similarly be a complete joke. Even if they remove the ability to pick up concussive bombs, you can trivialize every high HP boss encounter in the game with this strat. The only stat you need is decent enough strength to chuck the bag, and a second consecutive attack to set it all off (which is a guaranteed hit because it's an inanimate object). 15-20 smokepowder bombs should be enough to vaporize literally anything ingame, and since they're 0.2 lbs each the container will still be sub 10lbs which means you don't actually need much strength actually. You're essentially chucking 15-20 turns worth of explosives in 1-2, it's such a complete cheese strat. Even with limited bombs it's still super strong - A bag with only 7 smokepowder bombs was able to bring a 400 HP enemy down to below half health. I imagine if you found a way to collect enough smokepowder bombs you'd be able to defeat the tollkeeper without engaging in any of the mechanics, just straight up.
I did by accident on my first playthrough. Didnt use any of the runpowder the gnomes gave and stole the other two because i heard Raphael was no pushover. Didnt use any barrels but i must have positioned all of the runepowder perfectly because. On bomb arrow later. The party and hope are thrown back to the dining room, rapheal health dropped to half, and all his cambion minions had SLIVERS left of hp 😂.

I'd been picking every barrel up I saw while playing through and sending them to camp, if you save gnomes in act 2 you are given an extra runepowder bomb to destroy the watchers and then you can steal an extra one from their area in act 3, the window in house of hope at the very beginning let's you travel to camp for some reason but just max out my inventory with them, travel back, place them, return to camp, repeat
