The Kings lost two leaders during last off-season who may have helped keep the team from sinking below the play-in line. Jordi Fernandez was Brown's right hand man. Harrison Barnes was the glue-guy in the locker room that kept the team on track. Im here as a young Bucks fan who started following the NBA during the he late stage of mediocrity watch the rise. Honestly believed through the rough patches from the Bucks the last two season that I would find a fun team to watch out west and I considered the Kings. Today I'm here to offer condolences to Kings fans
A rough day for Sacramento no doubt. From the outside looking in I personally did not see a reason to fire Mike Brown at this time. However, there is no way to tell how others in the organization felt about him and/or how things transpired. One thing I do know is that the Pistons game was one of the... If not the strangest endings I have ever witnessed... It makes me happy to see the city behind Mike Brown no matter what the real reasons were why Mike was fired aside from what's seen on the surface. There is no good way to fire someone. Whether on the phone, in person, over Zoom, or through a text message. I personally wouldn't mind being fired via text or phone call. I don't need to be in the presence of the person that just canned me. I can just keep it moving and no walk of shame. Let's look at a different side. Mike gets millions of dollars, the city is behind him, and his legacy will live on forever as the coach that brought the Kings back to the playoffs after nearly two decades. The coach that brought so much joy to this city. Today we mourn the firing of Mike Brown and tomorrow we celebrate the opportunity for Doug Christie as the new voice of the Sacramento Kings. Let's hope Doug can motivate the team, win games, and help them find the joy they played with just 2 seasons ago!
1- Mike Brown had an awful defensive scheme that focused on protecting the paint at the expense of guarding the 3 point line. In 2024. Seriously. 2- His rotations were just atrocious. I think most would agree that’s the least controversial take here. The Sacramento Kings are not a title contender. Not even close. And when you’re in a situation like that you need to try and develop young guys. Mike Brown simply refused to do so by playing stupid games with players like Keon Ellis and Isaac Jones, your only promising young guys at the moment 3- Mike Brown refused to go away from a DHO system that clearly does not work anymore and hasn’t worked since early 2023. He also didn’t even try to implement Demar This roster is extremely flawed yes. But Mike Brown was leading a 41-41 roster to a record well below .500 It seems like the kings media at this point is so broken from 20 years of awfulness that they cling on to anything remotely decent. I will forever respect MB for taking us out of the cellar in 2022. But guys, not being in the cellar is an extremely low bar. I would rather be a bad rebuilding team than a thoroughly mediocre one, and that’s what MB provided with his inability to adapt to the roster he was given
Well If the kings are going to rebuild, they should do it properly. Get all the picks for Fox and Sabonis. And DeMar is actually a really trade-able contract with his salary. He can easily fetch 1 first round pick.
I don’t personally think a full blowup is necessary. Fox wants out, trade him for a promising young wing to pair with Murray and a 1st round pick. We’ve got a million guards here. Monk can play PG, and Keon and Carter look to be promising young guards who can contribute now
@@JebronLames13 shoot if the kings were willing to sell him that low, then the Spurs want to talk to the front office 😂 Sohan+ salary filler and picks. Maybe they'll return Barnes 🤣 Fox and Wemby would be an insane tv product.
Man, I’m so glad its not the coaches job to correct the mistakes the players make. Mike Brown was a broken record after every loss and all the kings did was continue to do the same thing. Mike Brown isn’t fully to blame, but damn if he hasn’t helped himself any
I hate seeing all the Fox hate in all the comments all players make mistakes and he’s never been a media guy. I don’t think Mike was the problem either at this point monte drafting pgs and selling picks is the problem. We need a shot blocker hard to stop 3s when you have to pack the paint anytime we get beat off the dribble but hey what do I know
@ as trash as Vivek has been we can’t ignore the glaring holes we have. We have two wings(one being an old derozan) and one shot blocker who’s a two way rookie. I love Domas but without a rim protector he’s extremely limited on defense and I’m not even a person who thinks he sucks on defense
NOBODY should have been packing the paint in that situation. Give them 2 points. When Fox isn’t guarding the ball, he is a HORRIBLE defender! In THAT situation against Detroit, you have one job to do….you are HUGGING anyone near the 3 point line. Watch the replay. The ball is on Fox side of court and you could damn near park a car between him and his guy DO NOT say, “he made a mistake “…this was more than a mistake!
@@NuttersNotes I wasn’t referring to that play when I said we have to pack the paint I mean over the course of every game. @@dmitriusjohnson6877 Fox is the problem here. He's a selfish player who doesn't make those around him better. The NBA is a team sport now and Fox is not a team player.
I think Kings fans are pissed because the firing absolutely makes 0 sense. Vivek and Monte are the main culprit for their incompetence of not bolstering the roster to compete for a playoff spot. Players need to be held accountable for not paying attention to details and bricking wide of 3s. So, with all that said, Monte better be trading Fox ASAP for his arrogance and demeanor towards the team and organization. He ultimately dissed the fans by his pettiness, lack of professionalism and quitting on the team. "But it can't any worse" - Mike Bibby
Then why the hell did you give him an extension? LMAO You trade Fox and try to get as much from him and then fire Mike Brown at the end of the season. Kings ain't looking good from around the league. This is just another crap show from Vivek and company. @@Scottadamsfan3481
I'm noticing how nobody wants to bring up this roster construction under Monte McNair & how that DeRozan trade actually didn't fix any weaknesses from last year. Total bust pick up; McNair chose to go for more offense when they needed rim protection...it's only one ball Monte.
DeRozen is Fox aged 10 yrs. How's that gonna help your defensive weaknesses and rebounding woes, especially late in games? Opponents enjoy the layup/dunkfests playing the Kings. Kings insert Len, he protects the paint/rebounds, Kings start doing well, sub him out never to be seen again. L
I really thought when Jordi left this was going to happen sooner rather than later. Jordi was the coach they needed. It reminded me of when Chuck Pagono was left on to coach the Colts when everyone knew Bruce Arians was the best option. Firing a coach in season is not unprecedented Jason Kidd was fired by the Bucks during a very underperforming season. That led to coach Bud and they won a title eventually. Bud was fired and his replacement only lasted 43 games. But now the bucks are playing better this season. Hopefully that’s where the Kings go from here. Hopefully….
When Mike Brown came to Sac as the coach I jumped ship. As a long time Warriors fan, I admired him sooo much. Plus the Kings had one of my all time favorites, Harrison Barnes. This was such an insanely stupid move. It’s clear this Kings organization is severely dysfunctional and it starts at the top. Too bad we can’t fired the owners and general managers. I think the fans should do a complete “walk out” at the next home game.
We like to gloss over what a monopoly is-a monopoly allows a business a guaranteed profit which means competence does not matter. Indeed, an incompetent organization feels threatened by competent people. So as soon as any slightest justification comes along, they get rid of the competent individual. That’s what happened here.
Vivek paying 30m for a 6 month probation period, I'm sure they wont have a hard time finding a new coach. Players wanting to play for them though, that's a different story. Toxic culture with a micromanager boss
@@obrynThey'll have no trouble finding a coach who can get tens of millions, get fired soonafter, and get paid without working. Such a joke mgmt team. Fired the only successful coach who completely turned the franchise around in decades. priceless
I'm sorry, but this had to be done. The player tuned him out already. The Denver game, when Gordon hit the 2 points and the score was 122-121, he didn't call a timeout and clam the player down and draw up a play. They didn't score, and Denever came down and took the lead, then he called a timeout. Seem like he don't know what he is doing out there sometimes. Play Eliis and then get DNP. He had to go, and so does Fox now.
No it didn't. If Monte actually knew how to construct a team, he wouldn't have acquired the pieced he did. Who drafts an injured player? Who continually drafts guards instead of key pieces to fix their weakness? lol Monte and Vivek. That's who. They are the true 🤡 Did you even watch the video. Like he said, Brown has blame but it's not his fault why the team is the way it is. Now that brown is gone. Players better be 100% locked in and making open 3s from here on out
Brown was just the first to fall. If Monte can't save the season by trying to make it to the playin he is gonna go too. Everyone plays a part in this. The players, gm, Mike. The player tuned Mike Brown out. If Monte was the first to go, Mike would've been gone after this season. The new gm would've wanted his own coach.
@@aalon06 oh definitely he's only the first to go down but of Monte. He doesnt know how to construct a team. If he had done better, they wouldnt be in this situation. Fox and Brown have called out the weaknesses of the roster since 22 and what does Monte do? get more guards lol Kings are cooked now. They were cooked when they tried HB who fit better than DeRozen. lol
Kings should NOT re-sign Fox to a long term contract. He is not a franchise player. He does not deserve to be the highest paid player in the NBA. He was not even an All-Star last year.
Settle down Matt. Brown is a nice guy and maybe the best assistant coach in the NBA, but he was very lacking across the board, from bench minutes and shots (the starters took 90% or more of the shots, ignoring Keon, not utilizimg the spark plug of I Jones, keeping his horrible collapse defense which exposed the 3 point line, the list goes on. He hung himself. Plus, he never got Fox to stop the horrible sloppy turnovers in crunchtime. Lets go Christie! But hopefully if Doug does not work out we go after Sam Cassell
Andrew Yang, Jim Kozimor, George Karl comments vindicated me. I genuinely cannot support this team. I can't even watch a game. I only watched 3 games in full this year.
I think the way the Kings fired Brown was wrong, but either he or Fox had to go. Fox liked Brown because he didn't have to listen to him and only slightly cared. Fox already had 2 blocks and wanted a 3rd as the game winner. Brown told them what to do and Fox tuned him out The whole situation stinks, and changes had to be made. Best of luck to Brown. Terrible look for the Kings yet again.
I think the decision to fire Mike Brown was justified. How it was done, not so much but it was the right decision. If you look at Mike Brown's other coaching stints and why he got fired it was because he lost the locker room and the players were tired of how he was coaching. No different here.
Lol. The only actual good team that fired him was Cleveland. Other than that, he's been coaching teams in rebuild mode, so it's hard to blame his coaching style, which doesn't seem all the bad if he's preaching accountability.
I was not in favor of him getting that extension. At that time I said, "If you are really that good of a coach, get the team in contention for at least a western conference finals at the midway point then demand a lot of money." Asking for that contract extension when you didn't even make the playoffs sounds like insecurity to me that he cannot get the job done. If I am the owner, I would fire him as well. It's like I am paying big money to Sabonis, Fox, signed Monk to a new contract, extended Brown and for what? A 13 - 18 record with very, very embarrassing losses and a pathetic crew? Geez, I would fire f&**ing everyone!
I just read he got the call on the way to the airport to board the plane for the Lakers game, wow, if that’s true that’s totally foul and says a lot about the Kings organization!
We will not be renewing our season tickets for next season after this. The entire stadium needs to boo the owner anytime he’s put on the big screen. Time to make him feel the heat.
I’ve read through all the pro fire Mike Brown comments. Not one is remotely convincing. Monte and Wes are the ones that should be fired right after trade deadline. They’re the problem, NOT Mike Brown, for not drafting or trading for several long athletic forwards that can rebound, play defense, hit 3’s and bring the DAWG attitude of mental and physical toughness. Mike Brown is a universally respected and loved teacher/coach, and sorry but couch coaches don’t have the expertise to be disrespecting this great man. Enjoy your KANGZ 😢
Long story short we're just not performing like expected great roster we have a lot of talented players but we just can't find that signature game plan and consistency. Adjustments were needed to be made during these games like zone defense and less shooting and attacking the rim. Instead of subs and rotating players. All in all it wasn't going to happen over night league changes every year. Mike isn't the blame but definitely need to turn up our strategy on the floor. Let's go Kings!!!
Credit to you, Matt, for telling it as it is. I have seen your passion for this franchise with the off-season acquisitions and how much you want success for this team. If only the management shared your passion, this would not have happened .
The GM and coach was on a different page! It’s easier to get a good GM than a good coach! They made a big mistake getting ride of brown. Should keep the coach and fire the GM
I think this was the first domino…firing Mike Brown…then trading Fox. Then firing Monte. Full rebuild. They will hire Bob Myers to be the new GM or “consultant” if they keep Monte and Wes Wilcox. Would not be surprised if they hire Becky Hammond as coach to make a PR Splash for Vivek.
Hmmmmmm.... The most inexcusable firings the Sacramento Kings did since Rick Adelman left in 2006: - Pete D'Alessandro terminating Michael Malone in 2015 - Vlade Divac giving Dave Joerger his walking papers in 2019 - Monte McNair stuffing Mike Brown's Christmas stocking with a pink slip in 2024

Finally, Mike Brown after nearly two years removed from being the first NBA Coach of the Year by a unanimous vote. Sure, people will accuse him of losing the locker room, but it's the way that Vivek Ranadive and Monte McNair handed Mike the pink slip that pissed off tons of Kings fans and gave the clipboard to one of the Sacramento Kings' legendary players in Doug Christie. Monte needs to held accountable. Mike was the best thing we’ve had in a while and he screwed things up bc he couldn’t fix the roster. I think we fully reset, trade all your players at this point. Get draft picks for next five years.
I just hope Doug doesn’t keep the same mindset of having everyone exert all their energy on defense, even though Doug is a defensive guy. Fox and Sabonis are made to run and gun… bring back the full offensive team from 2 years ago plz 🙏🙏🙏
I agree. I think this team has offense in its DNA. MB said after playoffs- We were scoring 122.5ppg on avg and we cannot do it again. But defense, we can improve a lot. And started shifting too much on def too early. That is why they started last year so badly and offense was gone in some games. This year was the same. In my opinion if MB had stuck to the strengths - big off. and gradually started implementing very though def. would have been better. For some games and for some quarters. Not all the time for 4 quarters. Main focus - a lot of scoring and sprinkle more and more def. with time! This way 2nd year they dont miss the playoffs for sure. If they have lost 1st round again then MB can say- ok let us try 3rd year to be great @ off. again and a little more effort on def. for 2-3 quarters of a close game. So the players can buy it. But they havent. They were frustrated with the focus on def. on every freakin possession. So they lost a bit of fire power. I dont excuse them. But in opinion is the right call and MB didnt figure out his players/ didnt trust them enough(we all know his rotations were wacky) and didnt figure out what the team identity is - fast, fun, exiting, offensive, attacking basketball. With some def. when it is needed to win playoff/ important games. I think he was too strict and players lost some fun. And lost some belief in themselves because of his decisions with the rotations. If that is the case, in my opinion players will show a different face in the coming weeks. Let's see :)
@ honestly, he kinda lost the guys last year already. It was because they were able to win games that they forgot about it. But this year it was just too much. Too much defense focus for sure. The team is not full of tall, long, players like OKC or NOLA or Boston. When they still have energy, they can guard taller players. When it’s the 4th qtr and they’re tired, you can see. The other taller teams come back because it’s easier to just be tall, less effort, and use size. It’s not all MB’s fault because he didn’t make the team, but it’s his fault for not wanting to use the players he had to their strengths. Fox is fast and slim and wants to play fast. Sabonis is a passer and not a shot blocker. MB is trying to use Fox like Jrue Holiday and Sabonis like Rudy Gobert and Keegan Murray have to guard the best player every night and have to guard taller, bigger, stronger, power forwards, and still have to hit 40% from 3s… it’s not going to work.
The kings have no class we suck Fox ain't nobody in this league can't make free throws down the stretch 74 percent will never win with a player shooting that low so that's not a franchise players thanks for nothing fox
He called out Fox. It's not a coincidence. Keegan has totally regressed. Monk has never been a fan. He's up and down wih Keon and Heurter. Dk why everyone thinks they the players loved him.
Spot on analysis. Sacramento Kings can’t handle hardship. They needed to come together and rise above this adversity. Instead they ran away and blew up this team.
The Sacramento Kings will blow this core up in the next year or two. Moving forward, they maybe rebuilding and won't be relevant in the next five or so seasons.
Matt is right, this changes nothing. Fox still won’t sign an extension and will be traded. The roster is still undersized and is not athletic enough on the wing. The bench is terrible. Keegan has regressed and is not a cornerstone. All of that is why they are a losing team this season.
Vivek is the worst owner in NBA history. Here we go again. Fire the Coach. Hire the Coach. Fire the GM. Hire the GM. Rinse and Repeat. Coach Brown was a problem but THE problem.

The Kings lost two leaders during last off-season who may have helped keep the team from sinking below the play-in line. Jordi Fernandez was Brown's right hand man. Harrison Barnes was the glue-guy in the locker room that kept the team on track. Jerry Reynolds should be made a special consultant for the franchise and allowed to work out of his home easy chair from 3-4pm after his nap.
The Kings will always be a joke! Hope the dubs pick up Mike Brown. He never should have left!
You're the best man 🎉🎉🎉 Iam Warriors fan right here.
Mike Brown simply refused to do so by playing stupid games with players like Keon Ellis and Isaac Jones, your only promising young guys at the moment
3- Mike Brown refused to go away from a DHO system that clearly does not work anymore and hasn’t worked since early 2023. He also didn’t even try to implement Demar
This roster is extremely flawed yes. But Mike Brown was leading a 41-41 roster to a record well below .500
It seems like the kings media at this point is so broken from 20 years of awfulness that they cling on to anything remotely decent.

The ball is on Fox side of court and you could damn near park a car between him and his guy

As long as Vivik is the owner the team will never go anywhere sadly.
We like to gloss over what a monopoly is-a monopoly allows a business a guaranteed profit which means competence does not matter. Indeed, an incompetent organization feels threatened by competent people. So as soon as any slightest justification comes along, they get rid of the competent individual. That’s what happened here.
I agree with the first part and then disagree with the latter part. Well put, however

He hung himself. Plus, he never got Fox to stop the horrible sloppy turnovers in crunchtime. Lets go Christie! But hopefully if Doug does not work out we go after Sam Cassell

Listening to Brown speak on Fox was very surprising to me. Can't talk like that publicly unless you're Gregg popovich
Is there a more pathetic organization in the entire NBA, from ownership on down? Absolutely classless how Brown was fired.
I think the decision to fire Mike Brown was justified. How it was done, not so much but it was the right decision.
If you look at Mike Brown's other coaching stints and why he got fired it was because he lost the locker room and the players were tired of how he was coaching. No different here.
Or the players are just not that good

Mike lost the lockeroom a while ago. Easier to get rid of one then your entire roster.
Agree Monte McNair must go!
This team has lost me as a fan
Credit to you, Matt, for telling it as it is. I have seen your passion for this franchise with the off-season acquisitions and how much you want success for this team. If only the management shared your passion, this would not have happened .
The GM and coach was on a different page! It’s easier to get a good GM than a good coach! They made a big mistake getting ride of brown. Should keep the coach and fire the GM
Veteran leadership on the bench is underrated. At Houston this helped a ton
I really couldn’t have imagined in my wildest dreams during the off season this season could go this bad

The most inexcusable firings the Sacramento Kings did since Rick Adelman left in 2006:
- Pete D'Alessandro terminating Michael Malone in 2015
- Vlade Divac giving Dave Joerger his walking papers in 2019
- Monte McNair stuffing Mike Brown's Christmas stocking with a pink slip in 2024
Seems like a reoccurring theme despite the GMs and coaches, it’s Vivek
The Malone one is beyond awful. Both hindsight and foresight.

@@geekUSA101 There's always an saying: something's going on behind the scenes that we don't know about.

Dave Joerger? Sure, he has his beef with assistant GM Brandon Williams and with Buddy Hield including a 125-123 loss to the Golden State Warriors in the 2018-19 season.
Finally, Mike Brown after nearly two years removed from being the first NBA Coach of the Year by a unanimous vote.

As a former kings fan I can say this is the worst most cowardly thing I've seen from the kings since the "Magoofs"... things are going to get much worse for the Kings and Vivek deserves all of the downturn that is coming. Mike Brown didn't deserve this, and I hope he finds a team and franchise the appreciates his abilities. I was still a Kings fan even after the recent 5 game losing streak, which is more than I can say for the owners ( who don't recognize there are bad lows when developing a team that has literally been patched together recently) This is the last straw man... F that beam and only L's for the current ownership. YOU DON'T DESERVE A WINNING TEAM. 💀💜💀⚰️
The Sacramento Kings will be on full rebuild mode, by tanking games and trading their key starting players for draft picks.
How does Fox have a LeBron hold on the franchise and never won anything.... Brown brought them back to relevance...Doug bringing accountability is a joke after watching his wife's antics while he played
I guess someone in the #Kings organization came up with this super brilliant idea…
“Well my fellow #FOOLS, let’s fire the coach of the year who ended our 16-year playoff drought, so we can make sure that we will reach the playoffs again this season!” - #TheBigFools of the #SacramentoKings🤦🏽♂️ 🤣🤣🤣
Monte needs to held accountable. Mike was the best thing we’ve had in a while and he screwed things up bc he couldn’t fix the roster. I think we fully reset, trade all your players at this point. Get draft picks for next five years.
Why doesn't the owner just sell at this point? Obviously it hasn't worked in terms of building a championship contender.
@@Kukuklock321 Agreed
Fox wants to play fast for sure, only when he doesnt want to😅😅
The kings have no class we suck
Fox ain't nobody in this league can't make free throws down the stretch 74 percent will never win with a player shooting that low so that's not a franchise players thanks for nothing fox
Amazing how we hate winning
I’m so sad that this had happened 😢
I am a pistons fan and I am like why? Yes we had no business winning that game ..but why fire him..?
im a pistons fan and this reminds me of jim caldwell firing when the Lions made the playoffs. horrible
Mike Brown is an awful head coach. Good assistant coach

Coaches are always the fall guy. The Kings have been in a panic mode already and I knew after his post-game press conference that it was a wrap.
@@TheStarsShineForYou Second best coach in the whole history of this franchise.
Their owner is the biggest problem, too bad he can't be chased out of town.
LET'S GO KANGZ! WE SUCK AGAIN. STOP GOING TO THE GAMES AND BUYING MRECHANDISE. GET VIVEK OUTTA HERE!
Nasty Work 😭
I can't represent this team anymore. This is why no one wants to be here. 😡😡😡
Lets just hope that the issue was a simple lost the locker room type of thing with Mike Brown
He called out Fox. It's not a coincidence. Keegan has totally regressed. Monk has never been a fan. He's up and down wih Keon and Heurter. Dk why everyone thinks they the players loved him.
I am done with this Kings... we need a new owner, one who wants and knows how to win.... until then.....
Fire a champ like that is crazy
I believe Brown was planning on going and his comments forced management hands. I think that’s why he did it!
You might be right. He kept going after Fox postgame and that seamed really risky to me.
Such a poor decision. Won't be purchasing tickets next year.
Can we fire our owner?
FOX OUT !!! DONE WITH HIM !!!!
You're gonna say he wasn't the problem too when he's gone
