Back in the late 70s, Sherwin Williams used to make a bulletin paint for sign painters. We had primers, base colors for walls, & the paint to letter with. So that tube could possibly be a tint sold for sign painters. They had everything we needed, even lettering brushes. They catered to sign painters at one time. P.s. thier paints were Loaded with pigment! Real quality.
Funnily enough, their very first paint was called "Guarantted Strctly Pure Raw Umber in Oil". It wasn't artist's oil, but........not a stretch to think they would try to branch out that way at some point. My guess is that they made those to "test the market" and since their name was so closely linked to house/marine/automotive/aviation/literally everything but artist paints, they weren't able to get their foot in that door and never really officially launched them. And it's not on their website's history when everything else is, cuz, well, it wouldn't if it wasn't an official launch and companies don't put failures on their list of historical achievements.
I know of Sherwin Williams because I've done local courier deliveries for their stores that are in my city. They looooooove their last-minute orders to be sent out on 'Executive' service... 😒
