    Its funny everyone else that makes a video about "Overdrive" pedals use them as a Distortion pedal using the gain or drive to generate the distortion. IMO you are doing it right pushing the front end into breakup and this is how ive always thought they were supposed to be used. Great job i wish you did the overdrive pedal shootouts the others are doing.

    The Boss DS2 is also really interesting for this same application. Using the same setting on the DS1 mode really lets the mids and harmonics sing. It's got slightly more mids than a standard DS1 and it shelves off some low end too just as the TS. Always get compliments on my tone when using the DS2 like this in front of my JVM210

    I remember forty years ago as a young man, my orders came through that I was being sent to Holy Loch, Scotland. "Great!" I thought, at least I would be going somewhere that spoke and understood english. Boy was I wrong. I got sorry tired of asking the locals to repeat themselves that I eventually gave up altogether. It took some time, but eventually I got what they were saying {well, most of the time}. Best people on earth, I miss their hospitality {the girls of Glasgow especially!}.

    I personally use my Tubescreamer as a boost for my Marshall valve amp when playing at home or smaller gigs for that breakup sound you can only achieve at higher volumes on a valve amp. Drive low, level high, tone just past midway creates this later seventies screaming sound that sounds much more natural when combined with the Marshall’s gain than just using a distortion through the clean channel. To me, it’s the best pedal ever, and the only pedal I ever use.

    Love my TS-808 for just boosting my heavy gain guitar sound without really distorting it anymore than needed. The sound becomes so much more defined and not as muddy as it was without the tube screamer.
    The settings I use are as follows:
    Engl Invader amp, heavy lead channel, about 3-4 on gain. EQ: 3,5,6. TS-808: gain: 0, tone: 6, level: 10.
    Works wonders for both rhythm guitars and lead guitars in my Melodeath band!

    Great video! I love the tube screamer. It's one of my favourite pedals and it is pretty much always on when I'm using a high gain sound. I own a micro dark (bought off of yours and Pete Cottrell's recommendations) and I found it to be too bassy for my tastes, so what I did was I have the shape set right in the middle, the gain around 1 oclock, a tube screamer set with almost no gain, high tone, high volume, and then a EHX soul food (klone) with tone at 1, volume at 1030, and gain at 130. What this does is cut off a lot of the booming low end of the amp, but not push it into oversaturation. I like the sound of the soul food's drive, so blending that with the orange's natural distortion sounds good. WIth the mid range hump of both pedals and the added highs from the tone knobs being pulled fairly high, but with the TS attenuating some of that high end, you get an aggressive, but not harsh sounding high end, extremely punchy mid range, and very tight low end. I was struggling to get the sound I was looking for from the micro dark until I blended both of these pedals together.

    • @ScienceofLoud
      @ScienceofLoud  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      My favourite sound from the Micro Dark is when there is a TS running into the front of it.
