great video, i've been a roofer for 20 years and this would help a lot of home owners who want to save some money by doing their own shed.
but if you dont want to buy the drip edge, it is common practice to hang the shingles over the sides by 1.25" and 1.25-2.00'' over the bottom
Good info, need to slow down a bit for the beginners like me. Thanks for posting.
This is a very good video. Too bad the fellow doing the work didn't take the time to show how you properly cut the first shingle lengthwise in half so the tar strip is at the bottom of the roof. This way the first row of shingles is sealed down also. It is also easier to cut the shingles as you go so you can use the cutoff pieces on the right side.
Great video. Lots of good tips on roofing. One thing I like to do is snap a caulk line for the ridge shingles. This way the shingles form a nice and straight line and are equal on both sides of the roof.
I love this video. It is easy to follow and not too boring. Makes me want to go build a shed.
i put starter around all outside edge's with a tiny 1/8 over hang if there's drip edge , or 1inch overhang without dripedge.
Good vid but one thing I'd change and that's to trim the shingles row by row not all at once.
Great video, very informative and filmed/narrated in a way that really shows the whole process. A lot of videos kept cutting out parts of the process, so it's nice to see a little more complete version.
It would be a decent manual for shed shingles installation but they are nailing them all improperly. The nails should be centered between the tar strip and a keyway, at least that's the way I learned long time ago :-)
Heck, I was just going to throw a brown tarp on mine and fasten with bungee cords... 15 minutes fat!
Yes, cutting off the tabes and installing them right side up would ideal, but not necessary.
I disagree, here in the frozen Minnesnowta north woods, a 1.25 to 2.00" shingle overhang, iced and frozen, breaks off so fast you'd think it was perforated at the factory just to break off fast! Shingle overhang in temperate climes where it never snows or ice dams up might be just fine to handle nothing but rain, but here metal drip edge is the only way to go, with no shingle overhang whatsoever. Some even use roll roofing instead of 15# tar paper for the 1st course where the ice dams form.
Do yourself a Favour and Staple the tar-paper on.
thats great but it would cost an arm and a leg in the UK
Very well done. And the girl is doing a fin job....
Holy plum line shit!!....this is a one man job, I would have to hire someone just to make all those lines
Im not a roofer but i know you dont nail in the tar strip.Pros hungh! lol
why no tar under the tabs to keep them down next time the wind blows over 60 mph all them singles will fly off and across neighborhood
When I was younger I used to work for a roofing company in Oklahoma City, believe it or not I really didn't have that much knowledge on how to put on shingles and paper. All I did was take it off. lol.
Not sure if they stopped making them but they still carry them at Home Depot :)
Davidtheatheist- what is he doing wrong here?
He look relax that guy installer
Lol. Well, we will remember that next time. Focus on the shed, not the girl. Just kidding. Thanks for stopping by.
yea, buddy is a bit of a hack, but i've seen worse from people who actually claim to be roofers. biggest issue here is "flush with drip edge", overhang is a MUST. i could nit-pick on about 5-10 other things but a well made video and informative for the average homeowner.
Rockin Roger's comments are wrong btw. All of them. Disregard them or your shed will topple. lol
very informative, but I'd like it better if the girl was tougher, maybe had a cig in her mouth, and not smiled so much.....too walt disney...... i want a regular gal, not some plastic model.
