I ordered the 9000 extra-wide extra high commercial-grade lift, my first time using it I lifted my Dodge Ram and when I went to lower it, only one of the two locking mechanisms disengaged, my truck preceded to lower on one side and then fall completely onto that side on the support bars. Obviously, this was a catastrophic failure, and I will say that the support did send a new lift promptly, but upon receiving it When I first used it with the bucket of my skid steer in order to test it before putting that much weight, it was doing the same thing with one lock not disengaging. This was the 9000 E, then once we resolved that problem after speaking to tech support the other problem was my skid steer weighs 8400 pounds which is under the weight capacity, I noted this to the support team before our FaceTime call, during our FaceTime they gave me every way to troubleshoot why it was incapable of lifting 8400 pounds when it is a 9000-pound lift. Unfortunately, this type of lift needs to be recessed into the ground in order to lift that weight because if it is not 12 inches (because it is 4 1/2 inches to start and needs to be raised 8 inches to take the weight) then it can't lift much of anything. I did my due diligence, I called and spoke to the owner, read all spec sheets, etc. and this is NOT mentioned anywhere and is not advertised anywhere, and really should be because after doing all of the work to modify my space to accommodate this lift, it was all for nothing because This lift cannot do what it's advertised to unless it is recessed 1 foot into the ground, at that point the 40 inches that it can go up becomes 32 inches. Making every single number that they advertise false! Also, I would like to note that trying to lift the weight of the skid steer (8,400lbs) and having the lift raised about 6 inches before starting to lift with the weight, one side of the lift (closer to the control tower) was four inches higher than the other! This happened during the facetime call while I measured on video with a tape measure! Another dangerous situation. I do not think these lifts are safe at all, and after speaking to Technical Support the second time about this lift having a similar issue to the first one, and showing all of this on facetime, their response, after me having offered to share the shipping expenses with them to send back, and pay the difference for a 12,000 lb 2 post, then accommodate that lift again by digging again to install 6'' thick cement with rebar as I did for the scissor-type lift widening it for the larger width of the 2 post lift, they were going to do this and told me how much, to which I agreed, but then suddenly they didn't have any more in stock? (Even though Richard from the company assured me one would be put aside on a recorded phone call, and the website says "in stock ships in 1 day"), they somehow didn't have anymore? Then when I found another lift from another company as an alternative, they wanted to have me pay for all of the shipping expenses and a 30% restocking fee for a lift that never functioned properly from the first time I used it! Furthermore, I had a 20-minute conversation with the owner prior to ever purchasing the first lift describing my intended use for it, and whether or not it was capable of handling it also on a recorded phone call, during which I was assured that it could handle it. Obviously, that was bad information and I could have lived with all of this and been fair in making it right, but I was not met halfway clearly, this company really does NOT stand behind their products. I am trying to depict the actual events, and facts to the best of my ability in order to inform future buyers. I only wish I had seen a review like this before my purchase. Currently, my attorney and credit card company are handling this as my efforts at an amicable resolution were futile.
you're doing it the right way, the credit card company will put them out of business if they don't get their act together. Once you start the dispute process the CC company extracts the funds from the sellers bank account until the situation is resolved, thats a big stick. It only takes 3 disputes for the CC issuer to shut their account down. Mastercard and visa etc will not waste their time dealing with amateur hour venders.
Thanks for the detailed explanation and views of the malfunction. These Chinese made lifts are sold under various brands, and from your video I now know to avoid buying one that has the original style safety lock. Fortunately, most now have the newer welded locks.
Glad you were safe and unhurt. Appreciate your honesty, and very glad to here they are going to treat you right. looking forward to your December report. Stay safe.
Thanks for this very important video on your experience with the Stratus. I want to get a scissor lift for my garage so I will be very interested to learn about the new Stratus MS9000 lift when you install it. This incident must have been very upsetting so I’m glad to learn you will be getting a new lift from Stratus that should have a superior design.
1) I got a kick out of your 2020 Dumpster Fire t-shirt at the beginning 2) I now realize you lean towards red and maroon-colored vehicles (Civic Si HB, GS400, and Pilot) 3) I'm always drawn into watching your videos in their entirety because they're so well done 4) Glad you got your car off the lift and excited to tune in for the next installment when you get the newer model lift
Thanks so much for watching and commenting! Silver or graphite is my favorite color(s) on cars; these are just what the used market had to offer at the time. Ha ha!
I'm glad to hear that Stratus is stepping up properly and taking care of the ongoing issue with this lift. This isn't the first time I've heard of this happening with this very same model. I had considered going with Stratus until I discovered this has been a problem too common for me to feel confident in owning one. My second choice (determined by price only) has now become my first. Twin Busch seems to be the next best bang for my buck. T.B. is a little higher in price, but feeling confident that it can lift and hold securely 6,000lbs+ comes at a cost that I'm more than willing to pay.
@@ForwardMomentum I won't be getting a lift until after the first of the year anyway, unless black Friday offers a deal I can't refuse. I and most certainly many others will be looking forward to your review on the new lock design. I believe quality reviews like yours are what keeps companies like Stratus on their toes in circumstances like these. Thank you for all of your effort in making available to us one of the few most detailed car lift reviews, especially for those wanting to make an educated purchase.
You need to go up just a fuzz past when you hear the locks engage. That’s common even in large professional lifts. I am surprised it bent under those conditions. But it sounds like the company really stood behind their product.
Definitely. I finesse it now to alleviate shock load and it has been great. I believe it was a combo of the down speed (directions were backwards, since fixed) and a sticky lock actuator. The 9000 arrives today! Great service from Stratus!
By the time you've set up your car on the lift (must check everything 3x, safety first!), I'm already done with my oil change. Car is off the ramps, and I'm on my patio, enjoying my second beer, watching the finches play. :)
@@ForwardMomentum That’s why I decided to stop at oil changes, brake jobs and such. I’m kidding, this thing is probably terrific, once you’ve dialed it in. Enjoy!
The same thing happened to my lift also. The lock notches for the lowest locking position snapped clean off when engaging the lowest locking position. The car dropped to the floor. The forces on the parts locking the lift are at the highest at low lifting heights. The steel and welding of the parts are simply not strong enough to hold a car when the lift drops into lock if the drop speed is just a tiny bit to fast. The drop rate should be very slow in order to gently easy the lift onto the lowest locking position.
Wow the old adage you get what you pay for! similar issue with another TH-camr! Never compromise, if you do it will come back to bite you, thanks for sharing this is huge!.
The good news is they made it right. See my updated video on the newer lift they sent me. I have been running it successfully for 3 years now with a lot of use. 👍
You might put some skateboard grip tape where the rubber spacers hit. It might stop tire slipping if a liquid gets on the floor. Wrap wooden spacer blocks on two sides.
Are you going to be doing a review on the new extended height lift that is supposed to come out at the end of Feb i was going to get the 9000x but was wonder if I should wait for the new one
I come from China, and I can't speak English, so I don't know what you said. I'm sorry. I watched your first video, about the lift. I knew at that time that this was not a good lift, the lock was in the wrong position and the design was not good. There must be a lock at any height for safety.
Thats awesome. Not the unfortunate issue but the new lift on the way sounds fantastic. Thats a must have now that my back is catching up to my age. Lol. Great video
Agreed. They upped it even more since this vid: they are air shipping replacement parts to me to get this one safe again while I wait for the 9000. So cool! Thx for watching!
Just bought one of these used, and your videos have been critically helpful to me. Noticed that one of the tooth safety racks is a little bit bent so I'm assuming the mechanic who owned this before had the same issue. Question: there is a cable that should connect to the upper limiting switch, it has been cut and disconnected. Do you know where that upper switch is or was and where that cable connects? Thanks again for your video and enjoy that new lift you're getting. I will more than likely be ordering some of those cross sections for trucks from Stratus for my C80E
Thanks for the kind words. I would contact Stratus about that cable. They have always been responsive and forthright with me. The instructions/drawings might be available online as well. Good luck and I hope it works out for you. 👍
@@ForwardMomentum there's a high limit switch that's missing. I emailed them hoping they'll send me one. Also, the solenoids aren't powerful enough to lift the disengaging teeth and that's the issue. We will see what they say. Either way the lift works and will do what I needed to do.... That's what I get for buying used haha
I hear ya. I agree about the solenoids. Definitely watch carefully when you bring a car down and make sure both sides are disengaged. If you don’t hear from Stratus via email in a couple days, try giving them a call. 👍
Subscribed and will be looking forward to the 9000 new design video as I have been looking at this company and others for lift options soon. Any word on the pricing of the new 9000 design?
Thanks for the sub! Stratus actually has the 9000 listed on the site. I want to say it’s around $2K. They also told me they’re coming out with a 10K with the new lock design as well. When I get the 9K I’ll do a review for sure. I don’t like the current, bolt-in lock design.
Can you post a video of your new 9000lb unit Stratus sent you and give your view of the differences in design vs old unit. Also maybe share the model #
Hi - my videos release on 3-week rotations. That will put the release as 3/4 at 2pm EST. Two thumbs up. I really like the 9000. Hopefully you can wait a couple weeks for the vid. If I get enough pressure, maybe I push it up a week to 2/25. 😎
Oh man... I was super excited about this lift and ready to order one but now I have to really think about it, did they say something about what went wrong? They still have the lift in the website but you know after I saw the problem... what a let down...
I know. Well, after they sent me some replacement parts, it seems to be working really well. I have talked directly with the owner numerous times as well. They will be moving assembly from China to Texas, but it may take a year or two. Anyway, the new 9000 should be on the site for preorders and that’s the new design that I will be getting.
I think when he was raising it up the 2 latch has to go over the lock. Only 1 went over the lock and the other side did not. So when he put it down on safety locks only one side had weight on it.
Base on my observation make sure both safety locks clicks or engage i think they are not 100% synchronized, i noticed you stop or release the up button right away as soon as you hear the first click which is only 1 side of the safety lock engaged, not sure how many times you did it prior to the failure of the lift but that's what i see here, at timestamp 6:50 that looks like it failed already there good thing it didn't fell on you!, and when you put down the lift fully maybe something hit the top bar that you mention and pointed that has dimpled in, and couple days later fault section of the lift finally gave up, the next unit or replacement you'll get make sure you hear or see/check both safety locks engage, otherwise the problem will happen again and its very dangerous. goodluck!
Yes, you’re correct; the lock actuators became unsynchronized and the instructions for the down speed adjust were backwards, which led to an unintentional force all onto one safety lock. I have the new lift design and released the episode on my channel. The new design is much better. I love it.
I made a similar mistake with my 4 post lift recently. Didn't rise far enough to ensure all 4 locks were disengaged before lowering a car that was 6' off the ground. The back left corner lock was still engaged so the whole car started to tilt as it lowered. Luckily I noticed it quickly enough and lifted the car back up before a catastrophe. Scared me big time though. Just goes to show you how careful and alert you need to be around these things!
At min 6:51 and 6:53 the passenger side did something that didn't happen on the driver side did that sparked my attention on the Honda doing the oil change, check it out I think that's when it failed.
If you’re referring to the safety lock solenoid releasing slowly, you’re correct. It hung up on the bar and a lot of weight came down on a single point. Since replaced.
Attention to detail!!! I was turn off by the most simple mistakes that could of been avoided. For the price, I'm sure they're better options. Also, WTF works in the garage barefooted? Good luck.
I understand. It was a bit unnerving, but Stratus has really come through in the end. I wanted people to have info so they could make an informed decision if they were in the market. As for the bare feet thing, I normally NEVER do that and in this case it just happened to be because I ran into the garage to film a clip super quick and I was probably flustered.
The 80 in this vid was discontinued. I now have the 9000E and I also have a video on that one. And everything is more expensive now, not just lifts. The 9000 is great; way better than the 80. th-cam.com/video/8UF7Yruiy98/w-d-xo.html
@@ForwardMomentum I work outside on the car of whoever calls. Never know whom that might be or what it might be or even where it might be. Could be sunny but likely nasty weather or raining. Trolley jack and axle stand and thats me. Im underneath it like a rabbit rushing in his burrow with a fox on his tail. Saw a guy the other day that make me stop. Turn around. Get camera ready and go back. Car on slope wedged against front bumper of his van. Then like it was a rocket waiting to take off, tall ass axle stands middle of the car with block of wood on each. One several inches longer than the other so car pitched to one side too. Very precarious but I guess it works.
@@ForwardMomentum Mate I want one but the full height version. I would either have it laid out on a flat bed of a lorry in the centre and have the floor cut out so it drops in to the chassis as a mobile repair vehicle or do the same with a trailer. I like your setup though pal. Why no just get a convertible jeep like a Toyota and with those the front screen drops down flat on the bonnet too. Go full height then and keep the 4th bedroom. ha ha
The design is actually very similar and the Stratus is rated at 8K and the Twin Bush 6600. So saved a few hundred and just went with the Stratus. It’s working great now.
Dear All, im shocked looking at the equipment it self and the use of it. Im new to the group but have worked within the industry for over 20 years and would like to advise anyone who has one of these lifts or think of getting one the importance's that all lifts need to be bolted down to the floor (Other wise it is effectively flouting on the floor), never placing the vehicle off center of the processioning lifting points i.e. add uneven additional lifting blocks and never exceed the max lifting loads. With regards to the issue with the lock out system i my be wrong but it looks very muck like the lock out bar with the angled teeth is only fixed at the front with very small Alan key bolts. Like i said don't wont to upset and apologies if i have. kind Regards
Thanks for your comment. You should send your concerns directly to Stratus, not me. I’m just a consumer who shared my experience. I’m sure they would appreciate the feedback of a seasoned industry veteran such as yourself.
Dear Forward Momentum, Please expect my sincere apologies if in any way my comments relating to your blog/post have unintentionally come across as negative feed back of your video. I would like to make it clear to all that my comments where placed with the best intentions and meant to be of a constructed Nature. Kind Regards David
No worries. Some people comment assuming I work for Stratus or have regular meetings with them. I just wanted to be clear that your points may be best directed to them. Thanks for being polite. Take care.
Chinese steel does not really make the grade they skimp on the important elements that combined with their poor maufacturing. To me it looked like maybe the 2 steel bars with the ratchet teeth were not properly aligned so when it clunked up and over only one went over and then you went down and the rest was history.
Sigh…how many times do I have to explain this? When you film for TH-cam sometimes you shoot the footage after it happened in order to bring content to viewers. I don’t work on cars with bare feet normally and I don’t advise it either.
the lock rail should be welded to the baseplate, thats common sense. The whole locking design doesn't look good at all, I won't be buying one no matter how they make you whole.
It was just for filming. I ran out to film something that already happened. Sounds weird, but that’s how it works with trying to capture footage sometimes. And I never work on stuff barefoot - ever. So, I agree with you in that respect.
Not USA metal. The lifts were made in China but Stratus is in the process of moving everything to Texas, including raw material procurement. Note: I replaced this lift with the 9000 and it’s a much better design. No issues. See my other video on the 9000.

@@AndreychukAndrey exactly right!
@@ForwardMomentum But glad Stratus took action.
Me too. I spoke to the owner yesterday and the 9000 is en route to my house.
Can you do a video on how to change a Transmission solenoid
My part 2 vid gets you 90% there. I don’t think you even need to drop the VB to change one out.
Did you ever get the 9000 version of the lift and if so any thoughts on the design?
Yes. I love it! Episode releases in 1 week. 😎
Thank you for your info, it is useful.. Thanks again
I have a gs300 and vsc abs vsc off lights are on.
Any thought?
Those trigger under numerous circumstances. Can you scan the OBD for codes? LMK
I know how to drop the pan but to take it out I don't want to remove the wrong one
@@ForwardMomentum no codes
It should be in the FSM. TIS should have access to the FSM for pretty cheap.
Your alternator is probably about to take a crap. Test it while running and look for inconsistent and fluctuating voltage readings.
I’m shopping for a lift and watching TH-cam. I think Stratus just sold a lift.
I’m really happy with my 9000E. 👍 Let me know if you end up getting it.
what size is your garage?
20x18
@@ForwardMomentum thanks
As for the bare feet thing, I normally NEVER do that and in this case it just happened to be because I ran into the garage to film a clip super quick and I was probably flustered.
hmm.. they don't sell this any longer it seems.. least expensive one now is $3500
The 80 in this vid was discontinued. I now have the 9000E and I also have a video on that one. And everything is more expensive now, not just lifts. The 9000 is great; way better than the 80. th-cam.com/video/8UF7Yruiy98/w-d-xo.html
was this made in USA by the way ?
No, most are not. However Stratus is in the process of moving everything to the USA (TX to be exact).
What a great lift. Shame it only goes up half way.
Now this comment I can process right away. They offer full size options but I didn’t want to punch the car through the 4th bedroom. 🤣
@@jamesbarratt593 totally understood. Keep in mind I came from floor jacks and jack stands so for me this lift is a godsend.
Go full height then and keep the 4th bedroom. ha ha
Hi,
Which model of alloys you got in your lexus?
Hi - They are 2012 GS350 wheels.
If this works I'm gonna get my car down today. Thanks!
Good to know thank you
I love this thank you
That is exactly why i dont trust any scissors lift at all
I have been using their 9000E for a few years now. Way better than that old design. No issues.
I love this channel
You should've bought a Twin bush, better design and its blue the perfect color lol
The design is actually very similar and the Stratus is rated at 8K and the Twin Bush 6600. So saved a few hundred and just went with the Stratus. It’s working great now.
I'd be ripping that buzzer out so fast xD
Dear Forward Momentum,
Please expect my sincere apologies if in any way my comments relating to your blog/post have unintentionally come across as negative feed back of your video.
Take care.
This thing is showing $4600 now
nice ty
Chinese steel does not really make the grade they skimp on the important elements that combined with their poor maufacturing. To me it looked like maybe the 2 steel bars with the ratchet teeth were not properly aligned so when it clunked up and over only one went over and then you went down and the rest was history.
One of the release solenoids was slow and the weight came down on one bar. Stratus replaced the loft with a newer one, free of charge.
Wow that actually make me not wanna get one, thx for video
No prob. The 9000 is so much better. See my vid on that if interested. Also, they’re coming out with a 9000X which I might review in a few months.
if he was bothered about safety why was he working in bare feet lol
Sigh…how many times do I have to explain this? When you film for TH-cam sometimes you shoot the footage after it happened in order to bring content to viewers. I don’t work on cars with bare feet normally and I don’t advise it either.
i was only joking with you check the LOL bit
@@christopherwillan3925 ok thanks. Some people haven’t been joking and it pisses me off because that’s all they say. 😬
Hey.... take it easy on my Man here. He's doing everyone a 'Big Favor' in sharing his experience with this Lift.

the lock rail should be welded to the baseplate, thats common sense.
The whole locking design doesn't look good at all, I won't be buying one no matter how they make you whole.
That design has been discontinued. The 9000E they sent me has been awesome and I have used it for a few years now.
👏👌👍👍
Don’t want to sound like a dick but working bare foot around machines isn’t the best idea.
It was just for filming. I ran out to film something that already happened. Sounds weird, but that’s how it works with trying to capture footage sometimes. And I never work on stuff barefoot - ever. So, I agree with you in that respect.
@@ForwardMomentum Yeah I get the issue with continuity in filming.
U have my dream garage 😍 and I'm a lady
Won't be buying a stratus
Wow!! what a Made in the USA product is that lol that's so poor quality locking metal...
Not USA metal. The lifts were made in China but Stratus is in the process of moving everything to Texas, including raw material procurement. Note: I replaced this lift with the 9000 and it’s a much better design. No issues. See my other video on the 9000.
@@ForwardMomentum That's what I thought!!.
