@sweeney60 Fair enough. My point is that there's something to be said for education - that is, trying something that is a challenge. The show was - overall - a huge success. But, as you observed, it wasn't perfect. Check out the other Phantom video from the production to see some of the amazing talent that was on display. Love to hear what you think.
I have to say, I attended this show and while people are correct in saying that the tone of the song might be too "bright", it IS a school production and not everybody is going to be a perfect singer. However, they clearly worked very hard on this - the sets and costumes were brilliant - and I enjoyed the performance so much that I went twice! I thought that most of the singers were excellent, especially considering their ages and all in all, it was a very enjoyable show to attend.
Look up 'West Branch High School Phantom of the Opera" and watch the video on the top of the list, uploaded by a "SuperPark11" I believe. that's my school. My brother plays Andre, lolz.
I appreciate your fervour, but don't forget, this is a school production: perfect pitch and pronunciation are goals that we have in mind, but they aren't the only goals. All in all, the show was a success for our students and our audiences.
It seems that these American high schools never have the correct tone to their voices, for want of a better word, they're too 'American'. This music was written for English RP accents, which is how the show is mostly sung today as it was originally, yes shades of people's natural accents such as Ramin and Serena do, but wholey American? Some shows work when accents are changed, eg London versions of Spring Awakening and Wicked, others do not. Broadway doesn't even do the show like this.
for a high school production this is very good. Our school did Footloose, not so good. Remember people these are not professional opera singer s or anything so give them credit. Actually like the costumes and all. PS Canada rocks!!
This is awful. The set and costumes are extraordinary, but the singing is horrific. The notes are mostly correct, which I applaud you on because I know how hard of a song this is, but it's far too bright. It sounds like a group of 8-year-old's singing, not an opera. The vowel shapes are too wide, and it made this a horrendous listening experience.
if this was a party i had went to, i would have fallen asleep. god this is so boring to watch.. painful actually.. .. may as well have served tea instead of watching this horrible rip-off choreography.
@IamKrystal111 Yup. We filled out the strings with some synth, but for the most part it was all real instruments. And, yeah, we did the entire play.
@cheshirepuss1 Sorry - nope. Nothing I'm going to upload, anyways.
@pepe10282002 It was a concession that needed to be made, given the number of girls vs. number of boys who were in the drama program at the time.

do you have any footage of the overture and the chandelier crash
@brokenstove its was 3 in the morning, i could barely see.
@PhantomMan400 Error in your comment: ALW isn't dead.
To hell with the detractors - for a school production, this is BRILLIANT! Well done, Strathcona Christian Academy!
Umm... Just a quick question... What was that huge RHIPPP at 4:38? We think it is a costume malfunction with the staircase?
@IamKrystal111 We're a high school in Canada. We, too , had a great time.
My Gosh! What was the budget? The props were stupendous!
*Covers ears* School production school production school production *Headdesk* Good when you have it on mute....
@adellezhu Hi, 200 lights is actually pretty good for a school. You may want to recount. 200 is actually a pretty good amount for any theater.
@brokenstove Arent andre and firmin boys?
@sweeney60 You spelled "inappropriate" wrong.
Those costumes are incredible
@lildevilangel1 Especilly the boy in purple at the front

Oh my.....
I'm going there next year. This production was amazing!

This is really cute but I'm disappointed by the Red Death costume. But then again, I prefer the extravagant Bway version.
Interesting take on the song!
The wardrobe is amazing!
@BonjourRHFrench Hmm...not sure. Your guess is as good as mine.
i dont get why people dont like this... its not that bad!
@themeganjoan THANK YOU FOR POINTING IT OUT!!! DX I totally agree with you! and it's really sharp so it hurts your ears.
Amazing
our upper school (13-17yrs)(England) is doing this (I play meg)
and i hope its even slightly as good as this! well done!
Very lovely
@PhantomMan400 He's not dead. . .
Great costumes!
This is fantastic! Such effort clearly went into the performance. And it sounds great.
Piangi is not supposed to be Henry the 8th
Nice!

@MeLoveandPeace Budget = lots.
Aww how cool! Wish my high school would've done this x)

the guy fall! lol
I'm sorry but this is not a show for teenagers, no matter how hard they tried, they just cant do the show justice.
Wow this is amazing!
That's not WHY I'm going there...
I like the sets but there's no harmony to the singing and the costumes make so you canlt even tell what era it is.
Lovely theater! And good job! KUDOS! :)
4.41 lol
Great! I knew, one day a POTO parody would come!
People don't expect the singing to be perfect. They're not professionals. There not supposed to sing like Emmy Rossum or Gerard Butler.
okay, this a very good try from a hiskul...they aced it!
Really good but why does andre and firmin are females?
i think my ears are bleeding
@NatalieBroadwayBound Whoa whoa whoa. Take 'er easy on that dislike button. You'll never get to broadway with a criminal record.
i wanted to like this...but ... um.... seems everyone was tired....not much energy
im sorry but this is completely an inapproriate show to do at the school level. The level of acting and singing required is far beyond this age level.
why are andre and firmin women.....?
Lloyd Webber is rolling in his grave.
i wanted to like this but the sound was just ughh no!
It's so off tune I'm utterly disappointed

What a cheap production! This song was not meant for the squeaky voice of a child, trust me.
they all look like 8 yr olds.it doesnt work.
