My British Shorthair was the exception and loved to be held like a baby, cuddled and would sleep in your lap 💜 she passed age 13.

I have a question? … what kind of liter box do you have/use especially because of the smell and what kind of food you give him ? Dry or wet food or maybe both? … and the last question how manny times do you feed them a day 3 or 4 times ? For example 12:00 -15:00 - 18:00 -21:00 etcetera beside a snack occasionally thx if can help me with these questions 😊

@adellaoconnor1960 If they are coming from another home, the cats will feel extremely shy and would probably hide under beds or even stay in the pet carrier for the first few days. When everyone is asleep they do come out, eat their food and do their business as well. It really depends on the environment of your home but I’m sure they’ll attach themselves to you soon enough 👍
That's very good that you mentioned about the need for contact. I have two Maine coons and they need A LOT of contact which is so lovely but the guilt of leaving anywhere for longer than an hour is epic. 😭

we've always had British blues, we have Claude and Izzy and you are so right about them not being lap cats but always by your side. just love them, as a treat I give ours tuna now and again. x

I have a silver British shorthair, he's a 1.5 years old male and a clone of yours except white, and your points of behaviour apply to my fluffball so well. I love my cat!

Thanks for sharing the information 🙂 I have a 9 months old male British shorthair and he’s similar to how you described Gigi’s personality, with a big difference: he’s actually not an independent cat! He’s demanding and I wasn’t expecting that, having researched the breed. He’s an amazing cat though and luckily for him we are at home most of the time so can play with him and pet him very often!
In terms of food, he eats wet food three times a day and a spoonful of dry food at night. He gulps down his food so I wouldn’t be able to leave dry food out, he’d just eat it all 😂
This is such a helpful video! I’ve always loved the breed and I am at the stage where hopefully in the next year or so I will have one. Thank you for telling us about your Gigi and the pros and cons. I didn’t know that they were not particularly lap cats, which is so helpful to know. That doesn’t put me off - cats are all about consent! Thanks again

Thank you I enjoyed your video! Everything you said is so true. My bsh lilac color name Thor is turning one next month. They like to be independent and not bothered but sometimes will come and lay right next me. Love this breed. I’m considering getting another bsh.

Lilac or blue?
We have a female British shorthair too and her name is Gigi too. She is only 8 months and very active always going out playing in our and neighbours gardens. We have been feeding her only with dry kitten food but we will feed her with raw meat after watching your video. Many thanks 👍

She's gorgeous! I just love seeing her! I have 4 male cats and there's no smell. I'll take cats over dogs any day. Also, another misconception about cats is that male cats spray/pee outside the litter box. A healthy, neutered male cat will NOT spray/pee outside the box. The ONLY time I've ever had an issue with this is when my oldest cat first developed Diabetes he would go outside the box every once in awhile. After taking him to the vet and getting his glucose levels in the normal range, I haven't had an issue.

This was such a good video! I lost my Lola (blue) in April after 13 years and we have just picked out 2 kittens to join us in July - Bert (blue) & Delilah (lilac) and I'm trying to remember all of the kitten things I need for them so this was super helpful.

I bought a British short hair without knowing anything about the breed and I must say I got very lucky I got exactly the perfect cat for me not too active very Independent and adaptable. When I want to travel I can leave her at my friends house and I know she will be ok the first time I did that I got nicely surprised by how easily she adapted to her new environment I can’t afford another cat and apparently this breed doesn’t really like sharing their space with another cat so that’s also a good thing overall I really got my purrfect match 😻

I have a BSH too and he is moody. Some days he is all over us and some days he can't tolerate touch but he is always around, always watching, observing even talking to us, very chatty. He loves playing hide n seek, cuddles w us at night and sleeps on our arm or chest. He dislikes being picked up though and will meow or whine in resitance

Beautiful cat I picked 1 up 2 weeks ago he is 11 weeks old and he is sooo sweet i am not really cat person but I love him so much so does the kids he is like celebrity in the house 😂
mine loves raw meat from cows. i cut it in small pieces and arrange it in heart shape on a plate. She luvs it. I got her used to it from baby age.
I’m looking to buy my first kitten ever I’m only interested in getting this breed. I have a few questions. Have you ever walked your cat even if it’s just in the garden? I have seen some videos where they are put on a leash for a quick walk. And also how often do you wash her? Do they also not cuddle at all?

I have two 1-year old Brits and they are definitely unique. Like a fashion model, look but don't touch hahaha. Ahh, over the last three weeks they've gotten more friendly daily. Got them from a friend at 10 months that couldn't keep them. ONE BIG benefit of a beautiful $1k cat is if your life changes and you cannot keep them there will be plenty of quality adopters. Hope never, but knowing you won't be taking one to a pound in the future is reassuring. These two are bonded sisters that LOVE each other, walk side by side, take turns eating at their dish. Wrestling matches are entertaining, they love playing with electronic toys, laser chase, or the fax machine.

If you get a white British shorthair, a cat that is white with blue eyes is almost always deaf.

only thing that smells or stinks is a dog!
Only if you don’t take care of them and wash them every couple of weeks.
