This is one of my favorite rainbow road themes. Instead of sounding triumphant or having that sentimental end of the game feel it goes for a more low key yet groovy theme that has a bumping bass and takes advantage of the GBA’s limited sound chip to make some outer spacey sounds
I love how anyone BUT the Super Circuit players will have no clue as to what it all means, whereas us OG MKSC RR fans know _exactly_ which point of the track the comment alluded to.
Still one of the best Rainbow Roads, and blows almost all the other ones out of the water. The sheer uniqueness of this version can't be topped with its melancholy but satisfying music, or its many jump pads that encourage shortcuts.
100% agree. I find it a shame that a lot of people feel that the Rainbow Road music has to be a mixture or epic, mystical and magical. Unfortunately I find a lot of those Rainbow roads to be way too pretentious. What I adore about this one is that it doesn't try to attain too much pretension, it still manages to come across as magical by starting with the only hook from Super Mario Kart's Rainbow road but expressed in a way that sounds like the blueprint for many many pieces of music in both of the Super Mario Galaxy games (which I get from none of the other Rainbow Roads not even the 3DS one although that one was pretty good also (shame it's only one long lap though)). Then it changes tune a bit and becomes very playful but melancholic at the same time and eventually sadder as a reminder of how far you have come in the game. The inflections throughout GBA's Rainbow Road music make me feel like, 'You've made it to the end, congratulations, you are legendary' to 'Here's to one last track in this game' when the playful nature of the song. This leads on to the celebratory sounds of the middle part of the verse which eventually leads to the slower, somewhat melancholic vibe of the last part of the theme as if it is implying 'It's ok to be sad now that you made it to the end, but hold your head up high because you can achieve big things when you put your mind to it'. This alone makes it the most beautiful Rainbow Road track in the entire series for me without needing any of the pretence of the others in the series .
I really like how this song goes for more of a "extreme sports" type of beat instead of the usual strong emotional joyride of the other rainbow roads. Makes me be interested in seeing a remake that focuses on tricks and general acrobatics and generally being really fun to speedrun through
If there was anything to be excited for when this track comes to MK9, it would definitely be the music remix. With the right instruments this has the potential to be one of the best songs in all of mariokart
GBA rainbow road is one of the most underrated rainbow roads and it’s such a bummer it did not get the recognition it deserved. It had a potential to be remade on tour and it def could’ve looked really good.
Tour doesn't let you fall though, where this track is pretty much designed to encourage you to risk falling to take lots of shortcuts. I can't see it transferring well while keeping its identity with the jump pass on all the edges.
Is it me or does the music for this game make it feel like its not even Mario Kart? Like it doesmt fot the normal patterns like the earlier versions did and I LOVE it
I keep going back to this because I love this song so much. I haven't even played Super Circuit but this song just brings me joy, definitely my favorite Rainbow Road music track.
Always fun to revisit my video game childhood. Can't believe how terrible I am at newer Mario Karts when 1st Place was almost all I knew with: Super Mario Kart, 64 and Super Circuit when I was kid. Where did 30 years go? Kinda makes you want to cry. Thank you for the memories, great uploads.
This is the most under appreciated game in the series. I mean, COME ON! First handheld Mario Kart? Especially that it has the whole roster of SNES tracks! What's not to love?
@@ordersquid38 ye I know, it's why I said it's brief since it's just the start to the song playing than moves to the snes version. I just think it's a cool little detail they threw in.
I really have a feeling this will be in the bcp, first of all, most of the unique tracks are taken now (with the exception of sunset wilds which will also come) and the tracks that have a similar theme have one of those themes in the game. I doubt yoshi desert will come to the bcp due to yoshi valley, circuit, and island are all in the game, we dont need a 4th yoshi track, thats why i believe this will get into the bcp.
Ye but you know nintendot they add things out of nowhere sometimes. I hope the Spiny cup is just every other rainbow road not yet in the game but I doubt it

I think that GBA Rainbow Road is the most unique of the tracks in regards to its music. It doesn't follow the same pattern that the others do.
True! It's got much more of a melancholy and "nostalgic" feel to it, as opposed to the other ones that are happier and more epic
And mk8 is unique in track structure, am i right?
same thoughts I had in mind lol
As someone who started out with MK7 I'd be happy to explore the past as much as I can. I'd love for every Rainbow road to get in the MK8 DLC.
Mk8d rainbow road doesn’t exist 🫣
I like the nod to the original Rainbow Road theme at the beginning and I've never heard anybody talk about it, so I just thought I'd point it out.
Exactly It’s Awesome! I Hope They Don’t Cut It Whenever They Remake GBA Rainbow Road

Music resumes 0:11 after growing back to normal from getting shrunk by thunder, or your star power ending, or passing the line for the final lap.

But this only makes it more fitting either for the menu screen or “Ivan Stewart’s Off Road”.
I love how the composer used SC-8850 samples. It's just beautiful to hear this.
I love that Bowser's castle from "Paper Mario" appears in the background.
One of the easiest and quickest rainbow roads and therefore one of the best. Also one of the prettiest.
Rainbow Road on the Nintendo 64 was the easiest.
Yeah but it took between 7 to 8 minutes to complete 3 laps.
