*What's changed since the original restoration?* The biggest change in this new version is that the vibrato effect on the flute and guitar is now present! (I don't know _how_ I managed to miss this in the first place). Though unfortunately, since there isn't a way to rip the sequence data with the vibrato intact (that I know of) I've had to recreate the effect by hand. It probably isn't perfect, but I'd say it's still a massive improvement over the last version which had none at all. In addition, the samples for the bass and starbell (that twinkling sound) have now been replaced with higher quality ones, and the mixing has been tweaked slightly to hopefully improve it somewhat. I hope you enjoy!
I really appreciate the attention to detail you put into these restorations. They are all perfect like I cannot stress that enough the amount of work ya put in really shows!
You aren't racing hard enough if Rainbow Road is peaceful. This was a white knuckled marathon with me and my buddies VS you were glad to hit that finish line. Of course we had also just did a straight run through every course in the game back to back so Rainbow Road was that last final LOOOONG race. Then again we cut our teeth on the 24 hr gran turismo races haha
Imagine hearing this for the first time as a Nintendo exec during production and just sitting back in your chair as you realize this game is definitely gonna be a hit
@@thedragon12 i dont think so, N64 version is perfect on its own, i didn't even played the SNES version. What definitely is true is the N64 version, help to make Mario Kart 8 a super hit.
I have no nostalgic attachment to this song. Didn't have this game as a kid, played it a couple of times at a friend's house, barely remember those days. But I've always loved this song. Hearing it beyond the capabilities of the N64 is a wonderful treat.
The absolute cleanest remix I've ever heard of this song. You know it's good because even when you crank the volume, it doesn't clip at all. By the way, you all came here for 1:37
I’ve always loved the bassline 🙌🏾 And idk if it’s because the original was more muffled but to me, it always sounded like the bass and an electric guitar playing in the same octave. Then again, that was my kid ears
Great work! Really takes me back to my childhood. Question: I would love to use this for my videos (providing due credit to you!), but do you have/need a license from Nintendo or the composer if you start to get $$ from TH-cam?
You don't need a license from Nintendo if the video isn't just the original unmodified song with a visual and nothing else. It won't demonetize to use unmodified or modified Nintendo music in the background of your videos or making a video just about a modified version of the song (like this one).
I don’t know if you still make videos, but I have a request. Could you do the trophy ceremony music in this game please? That was always my favorite song.
The N64 cartridge could only hold so much data, so sounds were compressed to hell. Well, everything was, to be fair, but the difference in quality between this and what comes out of an N64 is night and day. This is the same song without any compression. Well, excluding the fact that TH-cam applies its own.
There's a higher quality version available. In 2005, Nintendo gave this song an official release sourced from the original master track. It was featured in a compilation album exclusive to Club Nintendo members. It's on TH-cam. Search for "Nintendo Sound Selection Vol. 3 Luigi Rainbow Road". Enjoy.

I know others will criticize it’s length and lack of difficulty, but after the ball ache that was banshee boardwalk, we deserve a nice peaceful track.

Not really. SNES Rainbow Road is still the best!

1. It's too hard
2. The memories

@@MajorasWrath1 well in description there is download without the youtube compression, so it trully doesnt have ANY compression
@@MajorasWrath1 it was less about cartridge space and more about RAM
Nintendo cripped it with the tiny amount of memory they gave it
The N64 did compress music, yes, but not nearly to the extent of SNES or GBA; so the difference won’t be _that_ noticeable unfortunately.
