With the Henry, the Autosave models (2009 - 2014) yours is from Week 50 of 2012, had a problem with the PCB shorting out rendering the machine useless, as it would no longer come on after the PCB failed. What causes this is the location of the PCB, which is in the airpath for the exhaust air from the motor, causes the exhaust air, laden with carbon dust from the motor brushes, to pass over the components on the PCB to cool them, but over time, the carbon dust covers the PCB, and eventually causes a direct short between components on the PCB, as carbon dust is actually conductive of electricity (hence its use as carbon brushes for the motor). Once the PCB has become carbon dust fouled, and shorts out, it is useless, and a new PCB must be bought to repair the machine.
The best thing you can do, is turn the motor unit upside down, remove all 7 screws from it, and lift off the cover, revealing the PCB located in the ducting for the exhaust air from the motor. Remove the PCB and thoroughly clean it, on both sides, to remove all carbon dust. Once this is done, the PCB will have a longer life, but the dust will start to accumulate again from that point, and it is a good idea to remove the PCB every year to clean it. Henrys made after 2014, the single speed 620W variety, do not use this method of PCB control, and will not fail in the same way as the Autosave models.

Really interesting information you have there thanks. 🙂 I think its a stupid design really to have the PCB in the way of the exhaust as that certainly wont do it any good as you said. So how do the newer two speed henrys work then? Do they still use a PCB and if so is it in a different place?

@@jakemcintyre4820 I think they had a 2 speed for a short while after the autosave was discontinued in 2014 (when the EU ban on high wattages came into being), but this was short lived as most subsequent 2015 and later Henrys have been single speed 620W motors, which have a LED light or a blanking plate where the older models had the "HI -LO" switch. If you ever have a 2 speed Henry, whether its an Autosave or not, its always a good practice to clean any PCB it may have. I think the pre 2009 twin speed did use a PCB but these did not seem so prone to PCB failure as they were less complex than the autosave circuitry.

@@stevejones1972 thats a shame that the newer ones dont have two speeds. I think a hi- lo switch is much more exciting than a blanking plate!

@@jakemcintyre4820 In order to keep selling Henry for his £120 - £130 price, Numatic have had to make cuts to quality and features, making Henry smaller (HVR160 is smaller, and cheaper to produce, than the previous larger HVR200), giving him no special features (PCB's and HI LO switches obviously cost Numatic more money in production costs). In any case, now that he is just 620W rather than 1200W as pre-2014 models were, there is no need for 2 speeds, as 620W models as they now are, effectively dont need a "LO" power, as they are low powered to begin with, and with the ommission of PCB and additional switches, there is less to go wrong, so most Henrys will end up with knackered hoses and floorheads long before the main unit fails, as there is nothing other than the motor itself, or its wiring that could fail on a modern Henry HVR160.

Well the soft start the PCB board can sometimes go dodgy and not make soft start anymore on 2008 Henry’s they just turned on straight away but it could of acted like that
