    FYI, Dielectric grease is not a conductor. It actually resists electrical flow. Dielectric grease is used to coat the connection after it is secured to prevent dirt and moisture from contaminating the connection. Think of it as a piece of rubber coating, good to put over the connection, however not good to put between the connection. (Dielectric, sometimes referred to as tune-up grease, is a viscous non-conductive waterproof substance used to protect electrical connections from corrosion and dirt). Hope this helps to clarify the misconception.

      There’s 3 sensors, the way I did it was I went to the junk yard and pulled a handful of sensors and changed all of them praying that that would take care of which ever one wasn’t working lol

    I've used Valvoline DCT and Amalie DCT fluids with zero problems.

    I bought my son a brand new ford focus in 2012 for 16th bday.. he graduated high school and is still attending college. Car was doing ok, he took it in for tcm recall long ago. I am sure extended warranty is done. The transmission is AWFUL now, I told him car is older and has over 200,000 miles so its time to say goodbye.. however... he said he wants to keep car until he is out of college and can afford to buy something himself.. he worries I could get in a bind helping him, love that kid. The overheat transmission light came on last week, the transmission is slipping, jumping, revving, etc. I have a 2003 Ranger Edge that has been in shop 6 months, yes months waiting on a transmission part.. sent it to shop in April 2023.. nearing end of October now and Im still waiting. Sport model 2012 Focus. is it worth fixing if all these steps fail? One code showed transmission element A stuck on. Ideas?

      Also report said no 3rd or 5th gear, its the 2012 Focus Sport so it can be manually shifted.. would that help ?

      Everything I’ve read about these transmissions, is that they are BAD and they go out and normally get replaced with a new one which is about $4k. Apparently after 80k miles ford will bandaid them until they die.

      @@loridiaz1640 sounds like a dirty actuator. Odds on one, evens on the other. I had similar issue but only problem was rusted ground. Ground it and added battery terminal grease to fix it.

      Grinded the bad ground i meant. Wire brush was better than sandpaper.

    I changed the actuators to brand new on my focus also sanded the areas you did. What would you think my next step is ? Im thinking of taking it to get the tcm reprogrammed or maybe switched out. Do you think i should try something else before i do this. ? Thanks for the video

      Have you tried the speed sensors? I would do that first before the tcm. I know these trans can start going bad around 40k.

    We have a 2014 ford focus se thats been shuddering for quite a while and we had been just dealing with it. Now it has a transmisson fault service now error. It will shift in the first few lower gears but once it gets to around 45-50 mph (not sure the gear its in at that time) it wont shift up anymore which makes the rpms keeping going up since it wont shift up again until you slow it back down and it will shift back down and reverse still works except when the error first appeared but reverse is working currently. We had the battery and cable replaced not long ago. We were going to start with checking the connections and sanding the paint if need be. Next step speed sensors or changing transmission fluids? Or maybe more complicated now? Before the error dealership says shuddler clutch and another part has to be replaced to fixing shuddering which we were quoted seversl thousand to fix. Just trying to make sure there is nothing simple we can do first.

      There is a recall on the transmission control module. But I would try everything you mentioned first. And yes a clutch kit itself is min $900 with no labor.

      @TheShopWorldWide We had the TCM checked a while back by our local Ford Dealership and they said it checked out okay, but that was before this new problem of not shifting in higher gears and the transmission failure error. We will try and scan it too and see if we can find out more on it and go from there. Thank you for sharing this video and we will give it a try!

    Would you think it is ok to spray and exercise those actuators as a preventative measure? I have 2015 focus, no codes maybe occasional slipping.

      It could. I mean it would clean them out from clutch dust and what not.

      I wouldn’t recommend that, you won’t know if you over fill the transmission.

      Remove the check/fill plug and allow any excess to drain out. It's now at the exact level. 😊​@@TheShopWorldWide

    The part you replaced on the focus is that an automatic transmission output shaft speed sensor? I'm having poor acceleration and high rpms at 2500 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear after 35mph it drives fine, I ordered both actuators and new transmission fluid but I haven't ordered the speed sensor, can you please tell me if that's a automatic transmission output shaft speed sensor?

    2012 focus. Have lost all gears. Shall I swap out actuators or go straight on to replace TCM? New Zealand is not providing any recall service.

      I would try the actuators first. They are a lot cheaper.

    I have a 2014 ford focus se with the same codes and transmission light. I changed the input speed sensor and cleaned the battery. The transmission was rebuilt maybe 6 months ago. The only thing I notice is the gear indicator is off a little. could that cause an issue or would you or recommend trying to change the output sensor or what would you try next. Thanks.

      I would try to reset the trans computer and then change the sensors if that doesn’t work.

    How did you disconect the speed sensor? I put the little red tab up and it wont come off

      I normally use the push pull method, press the tab and push in to the sensor, And then pull. If that doesn’t work you may have to use a pair of plyers, or a flat head.

      I think it was counter clockwise, I did it by hand first. It does have a good bit of spring tension on the fork shaft.

      The recall is for the gear shift bushing which the problem it causes is the vehicle may be stuck in park, reverse, neutral etc.

      I had the recall fixed on my 2015 Ford focus SE. Dealership only gives a 10000 mile warranty on it and if u bring it before then they'll say they can't notice the issue. Mine is back to acting up again.

    Hey can you lmk if this sounds right. Dealer telling me I need a new transmission basically. My issue is after going for a good drive and shutting it off. If I fire it up before waiting 30 minutes the car bogs and dies. Thank you

      There’s not many dealers that are truthful with what exactly you need. Most look for the $$$ that you have to pay. But not saying your dealer is the ones looking for $$. If your trans has met it’s demise internally, then yes you will need a new trans. These trans are horrible and go bad quick.

      Ford was standing behind either fixing these transmissions or replacing them. What happened? I know they replaced the TCM module, clutch and reprogrammed it all at 75,000 miles…free. It now has 110,000 and no problems.2011 Ford Fiesta SES.

    I have a ford focus se 2014 with the Powershift (no SelectShift) i have a question about the transmission... Sometimes when i start the car and start driving from a steep incline, it sounds like the gearbox is making various adjustments as if the gears are engaging, and when I go over a very bad road and leave it in "Low", just letting the car roll to avoid that the suspension is mistreated, it makes the same noise, as if it were a "taca taca taca". However, I have never felt that the gears of the gearbox slip or get stuck or do them with force or shaking the car, I have not had the check engine active with transmission codes or similar, I already changed the transmission oil and it was done Calibration to the box using Forscan and the touch points are between 11.4 and 12.2mm and it does not have firmware updates in the TCM. What could that noise be? I already checked the suspension and it is fine, also the shock absorbers and the supports in the center and right side of the engine, but I have not checked the gearbox support and I have not changed it even though the vehicle has more than 100,000km. The problem doesn't show when i drive on flat, level ground with no road damage

    Hey, two days ago I damaged a tire by hitting a curb and had to replace it. After the replacement, everything seemed normal-no warning lights or codes. However, when I powered it on again, I got a red “transmission damaged. Immediate service” message. The only unusual thing is that it shifts at very high RPMs (3500-4000) instead of the usual 2000. I’m not sure if the tire hit caused this or if it's just a coincidence with the transmission. It's a 2014 Ford Focus Titanium automatic with only 50,000 km. What do you suggest? Also, I need to change the motor oil.

      I would possibly look at the tcm after you reset the trans.

    My transmission running hot as well the auto mechanics said by the fluid looking at the fluid my transmission is bad and my gears are acting up but I don't know.

    Can you only use oem transmission fluids in these cars do you know ???? I used fram transmission oil .. I’ve got problems in shifting after rebuilding my transmissions??? Thanks

      I know that ford made a specific oil just for these trans. The dual clutch fluid, I went in search of something near the same and couldn’t find anything. I would definitely recommend using the oem fluid in these.

      You can use the VALVOLINE DCT TRANSMISSION FLUID and what color was the transmission fluid because there's 2 types RED and Yellow

    I have a Ford Focus 2015 SE it has 77,000 miles on it, I am the 2nd owner not sure if the transmission fluid was ever change on it. I cannot find the recommendation on when to change it. I had a battery issue and got a code for the transmission fault, I put a new battery and the code was reset and the code never came back on. I want to change the transmission fluid on it, but I'm getting alot of different answers. Is is to late to change the transmission fluid with 77,000 miles? I'm planning to keep the car for a while and want to extend the life, is it to late?

      It’s never to late to change fluid. I changed mine when I got the car at 70k miles. It’s a peace of mind to know all your fluids are up to date. Just get some 2qts of dual clutch fluid and change it.

      It measures the output for the shafts. The codes were p2765, p2767.

      @@KeairaReed, it can be caused by combination of factors such as low fluid, dirty transmission from lack of fluid change, restrictions, broken parts and etc.

    sup bro what kind of transmission problems you had before you fixed it i have the same car and did everything the same exept the speed sensor change i just want to to know if that the only part i needed to change did your transmission overheat or would it say that transmission overheating on dash board and tp wait five minutes before driving your video was great at least i know that i did some of the things correct.

      My trans never over heated or said it did. The speed sensor fixed my issue. The trans still shifts hard at times. But I don’t have any errors now.

    Have you ever had or heard about the transmission gearbox problem itself (meaning where this gear shifter is put). My transmission overheats when driving 100+ km/h for more than 30 minutes straight. No error codes on the computer, recently changed the gear shifter + oil + filter. One mechanic said the gearbox itself (the metal box) might have some problem. is it possible with 42,000 miles?

      Everything I’ve learned about these transmissions, they can start having issues at 40k miles.

      Did you find something new about it?
      I have the same issue, tranmission overheats when I'm driving 90+ km/h.
      My first issue was that Reverse and pairs shifts were not working (it happend one moment to another, no warnings, But before that when I drove 100+ km/h had no problems), then I changed the TCM (I bought an used one), and I now have reverse and pair gears but it overheats at drive 90+km/h, I have changed the transmission fluid and still the same.

      @@nicholasniculas I haven’t found anything more about it. I know that at one point ford did have some recalls, and others were able to get it covered under warranty. The only thing it sounds like you have left is the actuators and clutches.

      @@nicholasniculas I had the same problem with reverse and I've changed actruator and it worked fine. still works.
      Regarding the overheating..idk... Maybe it was a not proper fluid.. I re-changed the fluid yesterday and plus sensor (thus diagnostic wasn't mentioning any problem)... I don't know if it works now.... I need to test it on a free highway outside the city

Let me know when you test it please, I was thinking that the problem can be a bad actuator or maybe a clutch not working properly, I have switched the actuators and all works fine, but maybe in high temperature it doesnt work as supposed to be, idk, please let me know if you find a solution, other day I was driving sometimes over 100+ but mostly time around 80 km/h and all good, but when I enter to city again and drive around 30-50 km/h I feel that the transsmition doesnt work properly.

    my girlfriend and i use her car as our primary mode of transportation. her car shudders after a stop into acceleration, or breaking and then accelerating immediately after. i have no mechanical experience but i do have interest, and ive tried looking into what the problem is and how to fix it. even knowing ford focus’ from the year 20-18 are infamous for their transmission issues and failures. how can i diagnose her specific problem and fix it as well so that we dont have to eventually get a new car sooner than expected.

      I would work my way from easiest and cheapest fixes, and move up from there until it’s fixed. There is also a few recalls on the tcm.

    How is it holding up? Is it still working? My gf’s daughter just bought one of these and it’s doing the shudder and some other crap. I haven’t talked to her about everything on the car. She’s pissed at her mom because she helped her find the car. She took the dealer to court and lost. She paid $6000 and only used it for a day. Been 4 months without a car for her daughter. Yada yada yada…. Thanks

      It’s still scooting along, I have some shuddering every now and again. But I have also reset it a few times and cleaned the grounds up again. But everything works and drives

    Hi thanks for video! I have a 2016 focus with 60k miles. Got it brand new & will be paid off this month. It is starting to have transmission problems sometimes (error light & poor/ stalled acceleration) should I trade it in? Or get it fixed?

      Everyone’s different, I myself chose to fix as much as I can to not have a car note. The issues you are having could be a $20 diy fix or a $4000 transmission. It really just depends on the diagnosis of it. So you really should think about that before you make your choices.

      Same here! Does it shutter more in between 1st and 2nd? No error light but happens almost all the time during cold weather vs intermittently during warm weather.

      @@CityRecGtTV Did you get a recall notice for the clutch packs? My wife bought a 2014 Focus, had 5000 miles on it. Shudder horribly. Got a recall notice about the clutch packs needing replaced. That was in 2019. Now the transmission is not shifting properly at 81,000 miles. All new cars are junk.

    Hello have a question my 2012 ford focus shifts 1st and into second but won't go into 3, the traction control will come on and than it will shift normal, any thoughts on this? it also has the hill assist message that comes on and says it's not available.

      Sounds like the tcm. Mine will sometimes struggle to shift, I have to let of the accelerator for it to shift. I also have a hill assist error, I’ve been told it is the abs computer behind the battery. I dread changing that.

    Ford focus 2012 automatic.: Got a letter (Transmission limited function). They changed the oil of transmission, the car is working normally, but still the letter is coming up every few days. it comes at the morning if it is cold outside and i don't warm up the car enough maybe. The question is, do you think it is the speed sensor problem? Thank you in advance

      I’m not sure the speed sensor would be the problem. I have seen where changing the clutch actuators is the next step, before looking at the tcm.

    hey my freind has ford focus its ot shifting to 4 th gear and up but she has to shft to neutral and then ack to drive and then its changing grears, you know why?

      These transmissions are horrible, after many fixes they still don’t act right, there’s a recall on the tcm which may help, or not…..

    My 2014 ford focus se it will rev high before going to the next gear and it won’t go into 6th gear at all I’ll be going 65 and the revs will be at the 2 and a half to 3 rpm the actuators have been replaced by ford and I do believe the clutch but I’m not sure I got it used but I was serviced by ford what could this issue be oh and there is no codes for it and no overheating oh and it definitely shudders taking of and going into 2nd gear

    So my 2012 ford focus sel has been giving me the same issues, code p00C6 (fuel rail pressure too low) and code p0420 (catalyst system efficiency below threshold bank 1) I changed the purge valve, the high pressure fuel pump (front) and the back fuel pump, codes disappeared, drove for a week and now my battery light turns on, drains till it locks up the steering wheel, and says transmission malfunction, im at a lost to what needs to be fixed. Any idea what could be causing all this? Car is at 200k miles, is it time to let go?

      Sounds like you have a lot of issues!! I have a video coming out that explains how to get forscan and look at almost every system and test each one. I’ll also say as much work as I’ve had to do on this car, I’m soon to get rid of it and get a Toyota

      @ it ended up being my alternator, got it replaced, turns on but it eventually just turns off, those same two fuel codes pop up tho , I still don’t know what it could be. but I’m with you on just getting something new lol 💯

    Just now watching the video but When I bought my 2014 focus SE a few years ago we noticed that the transmission was starting to act up but was able to take it to a Ford dealership and get a new tcm and clutch I believe And drove good up until a few months ago , all the sudden the transmission fault message came on and it acts up when trying to accelerate any suggestions? I checked the transmission fluid and had to fill it because it was basically empty but it's still acting strange

      I’d try and reset it, check the grounds, speed sensors and actuators.

      @@oakmars8062 yes there are 2 plugs on the driver side, a fill and and drain. The full is near the driver axle. And you’re supposed to use Motorcraft dual clutch fluid.

      Transmission still going…. 110k miles, sometimes still a little jerky, but once going it cruises

      I do have one more question can I flush the the trans out with normal fluid then at the very end when it’s running clean use the duel clutch fluid?

    Question for anyone: Is it normal for the ground cable to spark as you remove it? thats whats happening to mine. Is that ok?

      Power and ground may have a small arc/spark when removing or fastening to metal completing a current.

    Ford Focus 2012. 55,000 miles. Car always serviced by Ford. I had 7 transmission errors including “transmission overheating” and “transmission error” and transmission malfunction, service now”. All errors occurred in stop and go traffic, both city and highway, uphill in hot summer months. I turned the engine off for 10 minutes, restarted and was able to continue driving. TCM was replaced by Ford about 3 years ago. Then last week in highway stop and go very hot, I had the transmission error again 5 times. I finally left the car on the side of the road. I came back at night to get my car. Car started right away and I drove home without any problem. 5 days later I brought the car to Ford to be checked. According to Ford there were no error transmission codes. Is this legit that error codes reset themselves if the car restarts and can drive or did I get b.s. handed to me?

      I’ve never had this issue. I’ve read that a lot of people have had this problem. I’ve also heard ford does not like working on these transmissions bc they always want to just replace the whole trans. I’m sorry I don’t have an answer for your problem. I just know it’s a common problem. If you get it figured out, drop a comment on here if you don’t mind and explain the issue.

    I hit the ballad and boom radiator plus oil cooler box with front panel gone the car will not move but all gears were shifting ok changed the part and transmission malfunction appears with traction control and power train light on but drives ok msg will disappear after shift to reverse a big shake when going to reverse also gears are now not aligned N is R etc yesterday I played with a shifter now stuck in Parking 😂

      @@Top-G35 I would look in to that next as the cheaper option. The tcm and clutches are expensive to fix.

    I just started having trouble with my 2017 Ford Escape which has the same motor and transmission as the focus. Have not had any problems before then all at once the transmission seems to slip sometimes and kind of drags out it’s gears when shifting some times. Also sometimes when putting it in reverse it will slam before going in reverse. A message popped up on the display saying transmission fault service now. I started with changing fluids but it is still the same. Any ideas? My experience when internal transmission problems is that they start going out for a long time but this happened all at once.

      Look at the grounds, Speed sensors, and actuators would be the next thing I would look out at before the tcm. Try and reset the tcm through the system. See if that helps.

      I haven’t changed mine. I’ve done everything except change the computers. I have changed all speed sensors, changed the fluids and cleaned the actuators of clutch dust.

      Scrap the 3 electrical grounds for better connection and clean the actuators

    The clutch actuator a and b probably need replaced not just wd40 also inside the transmission the a and b clutch plates will need replacement and then a transmission relearn with a computer .. you might get away with it short turn but when the transmission doesn’t change threw all gears properly it says overheating.. . I love these little Ford Focus .. but had the transmission out of all 3 I own they go bad around 100k miles or so .. dry clutch system all clutch dust blocks everything inside transmission.. get the transmission out clean rebuild easy fix .. these nice cheap gas saver run around vehicle. If you can deal with transmission issues. Ford will fix for free on some vehicles I’m thinking under 100k miles or so I’m not sure check

      You will need a better computer maybe launch 431 to do transmission relearn or get ford to do one . Cheaper plenty of videos on how to swap out trans and rebuild

      That can mean many different things. I would try and reset the transmission before anything else. Currently I’m doing an abs module swap on one that read service now, and has no speedometer.
