African-American culture is disrespected yet replicated at the global level. There are folks in Asian countries getting perms, white folks tan their skin & blow up their lips. There is rap in almost every language imaginable, which would be fine, if the culture & community were respected. I am Dominican and I feel that the same is done by Latin America with our culture.

BLACK American culture. "African" implies we have direct ties to that continent, when we're 500+ yrs removed. Comedian Godfrey calls himself an African American and he has every right to since he's a Nigerian American. Our roots start HERE in the States.

However, you can tell it is still in its infancy and it is not as creative in sound and technique as US rap. We have multiple genres in rap, we have artists that have pushed the lines and created entirely new sounds and rapping techniques, and even regional rap styles have evolved. That is not the case in the UK. They are not that creative or innovative with their rapping. They still need to do more evolving.

You know that refrigerator that you can go and retrieve a nice cold refreshing beer from…..guess who invented. John Standard an African American man.
Here is more(not all just a few) African American inventors:
    - Traffic Signal: Garrett Augustus Morgan, a self-taught inventor, patented a three-position traffic signal in 1923. His invention included a warning light to alert pedestrians and vehicles before the light changed.
    - Automatic Elevator Doors: Alexander Miles, a skilled mechanic, patented an automatic elevator door mechanism in 1887. His invention improved safety and efficiency for elevator users.
    - Refrigerator: John Standard, a skilled engineer, designed and patented a refrigerator that used a mechanical compressor to keep food cold. His invention was a significant improvement over ice-based cooling methods.
    - Super Soaker: Lonnie Johnson, a NASA engineer, invented the iconic Super Soaker water gun. His innovative design used compressed air to propel water, creating a powerful and fun toy.
    - Folding Ironing Board: Sarah Boone, a skilled seamstress, patented a folding ironing board design that made ironing easier and more convenient. Her invention helped to streamline household chores.
    - Automatic Gear Shift: Richard Spikes, a talented engineer, patented an automatic gear shift mechanism for automobiles. His invention made driving more comfortable and accessible.
    - Gas Mask: Garrett Augustus Morgan also invented a gas mask that included a self-contained air supply. His invention was crucial for protecting people from toxic fumes during industrial accidents and warfare.
    - Portable Electric Hair Straightener: Madam C.J. Walker, a successful entrepreneur, invented a portable electric hair straightener. Her invention revolutionized the beauty industry and empowered Black women.
    - Double-Action Revolver: Alexander Austin, a skilled gunsmith, patented a double-action revolver that could be fired with a single trigger pull. His invention improved the efficiency and safety of firearms.
    - Human-Programmable Computer Language: Mark Dean, a computer scientist, co-invented the IBM personal computer and developed a human-programmable computer language. His work laid the foundation for modern computing.

Brilliant. I respect all inventions that help us. Go and look at what the British invented. Will you respect that. We are a tiny island compared to North America. In fact I think the UK can fit into Texas soo many times that’s how tiny we are. I respect all cultures. But don’t belittle other cultures. Both just are one up manship! Yes there were black indigenous people in the aneticas. But sadly because of slavery the majority of black Americans originated from Africa. I also know we all did. As for the better rappers it’s what your choice is what you like we all have different opinions. Of course rappers are huge in the US as the continent is massive! So rappers from the UK who make it big here in Europe Australia etc etc are just as big. All down to what you like I suppose. Sadly Americans do have a reputation as not being as knowledgable as other countries. I think the internet has blown that out the water. Look at the end of the day the UK is not just London just as New York is not just the US. We are all on this planet wanting peace & love. Plus respect . I respect the US it’s an amazing place. I have wonderful friends there. As well as family. No one is better than anywhere! Peace & love . The banter is just that. No hate just love x

First of all as a Black British man I'd like to just say that Black Americans are one of the most influencial people in the world in modern times and definitely deserve their flowers they made *Soul, Funk, Folk music, Rock and Roll, Jazz, Blues, Disco, Pop, Spoken-Word, Rap, Hip-Hop and R&B* but not just that they changed the laws for people of colour and helped build America which is the true definition of what their culture is. They deserve way more respect from Black British people because without them paving the way for us Black Brits we wouldn't be where we are at so respect to Black Americans and it's all love don't pay attention to the ignorant ones in the UK there are equally real ones who respect and love Black Americans and their culture. We LITERALLY grew up watching you lot shows and listening to your music😂😂🙏🏾❤
NOW Black British culture is most definitely a thing and it is *VERY* prevalent within the UK and Europe. Black British culture is a hybrid of African and Carribean culture popularly referred to as (Afro-Carribean) that has roots from Africa and the Carribean (mostly Carribean) but based in England. Genres that have been created by Black Brits are *Grime, Jungle, Drum n Base, Garage, Afro-swing etc* these genres heavily showcase the experience of growing up in London as a African/Carribean and have become essential towards the Black culture of England. Whiles there are many inspirations from Black American music that helped inspire the genres I think it is important that Black Americans know that all these genres are entirely different to Black American music and have different origins and roots and are not "Copies" or "Rip-off's" of Black American culture.
The most successful music from Black British people is undoubtedly Grime music which evoleved from the Garage and Drum and Base scene in the late 90's into the early 2000's becoming what it is known as today. Grime has deep West Indian roots (Carribean) and it is a completely different philosophy to American Hip-Hop the only similarity between Hip-Hop and Grime is rapping and rhyming but even that there is a whole different sound, cadence, lingo, energy so apart from the rapping they are two different things. The pioneers of Grime music are rappers like *Kano, Skepta, Ghetts, Wretch 32, Wiley etc* these guys are all OG's who were rapping in the early 2000's till today who have heavily influenced modern UK rappers flow and style.

    • @jacklyneverage3881
      @jacklyneverage3881 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

This is a good comment. I have started watching documentaries on the evolution of Grime music and the other genres in the UK by Black Brits. This comment is very very true. A little off topic, but related. I would like to know more about the Black Brits who were in the UK going back to the trans-Atlantic Slave trade. I don't think they reveal themselves as they should. Also, I don't understand how the Windrush Generation and their children still seem to want to consistently claim this "immigrant" origin when they were British citizens due to coming from British colonies and the 1948 British Nationality Act granted them citizenship. But, they running around talking about their Caribbean or African origins and saying they are of "immigrant" origins. It's the biggest mind screw a western nation has ever done to anybody. To tell a people already a part of their empire and recruited to come to their country to help rebuild their own nation and then turn around and call themselves immigrants is just insane to me. If your people came to the UK from countries that were still colonies under Britain, than they nor you are immigrants. That's like the USA referring to people in our territories as immigrants if they come to the mainland. LOL! It doesn't make sense. 🤣😂😆

When Nigerians say they are from Nigeria it has to do with their conservative values. My family has been detached from my hometown since 1880s but we still say we are from there. I think it's the same reason that older Black Americans had that made them address themselves as "African".

I’m sorry to say she’s right I live in San Diego California and we have the worst public school systems. My daughter does know what geology is she studied it but history was another thing. Some of the school systems in the United States are broken but once upon a time generations before the generations, now we knew everything that we learned at that time in the 90s, but before that I guarantee that people actually knew their history so anyone over the age of 45 will know more than anyone under that age

The maroon (original dialect) is almost a replica of akan dialect. The same goes for the Geechee people of the low-lands in the Carolinas their language has a lot Congolese, igbo and Ghanaian.
