As far as the Michael Oher situation, this isn't the first time he's had complaints about this. He's been saying for years that the Tuohy's misrepresented what they did for him. He said that the movie actually effected his draft stock negatively because it made him seem like he was mentally deficient and some teams thought he would have a problem keeping up with the NFL game because of it. What he's asserting is, they told him that since he was about to be 18, it didn't make sense to legally adopt him but doing a conservatorship was basically the same thing. The Tuohy's negotiated $250K each (mom dad & children) plus something on the back end but didn't make sure Michael Oher got a dime. I believe it's gotten to where we are now because either he didn't know the conservatorship was still in place or it effected some money he was trying to make and now he's coming back for EVERYTHING
I dunno where you got that information from but the movie deal was with the author of the book, they didn't need permission from the family. The author of the book gave them a split and Michael also got the same split they did for it. That family is worth like 200 million or something, don't think they need a few 100k max. The guy even wrote about it being a conservativeship
The conservatorship was so NCAA wouldn't think they were officially recruiting fpr their alma mater, but M Oher could go. He was still in touch with some family and wasn't staying exclusively with the T family. He understood and wrote about this in his book. The writer split his payment to make the book into a movie in half with the family, so each member got about 100K and they paid taxes on Michael's check. He has been estranged from the family for many years. He threatened them to pay or he'd plant an ugly story in the papers about them.
Does anyone know how long the conservativeship lasted for? From what i can tell his first contract had to go through the Tuohys but were all his financial and medical decisions organised by the family. Does that mean they had contral (and possibly a cut) of everything he did for most of his career? Or did he get out of it and he truly was making bank the whole time?
