    At least six people died and dozens were injured after a massive pileup on an icy stretch of Interstate 35W in Fort Worth, Texas, on Thursday morning.
    Startling footage captured by Edgar Velazco Moncada shows 18-wheelers crashing violently into other vehicles.
    Police said at least 133 vehicles were involved, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.
    Fort Worth Police Chief Neil Noakes said Friday that the pileup was “the most devastating accident that anyone can ever remember happening in the City of Fort Worth.”

    My dad was a truck driver for 30 years. He told me and my siblings when we were learning to drive that if the weather conditions are slick, or if there's thick fog, never take the interstate or a large multi-lane highway. All it takes is one small accident to lead to a huge pile-up and the last thing you want to happen is to get run over by a semi that can't stop. He always told me take the 2 lane roads, and if you can't or they're in really bad condition, find a place to stay until the roads are in better condition.

      I'm guessing that particular impact killed someone so it was removed out of respect for the person and their families. Can you imagine being a loved one to someone who perished in this accident and having the video of the impact that crushed them just circulating all over TH-cam. For those types of videos you need to find a different platform... Multiple people died in this pile up and some channels don't want to show the impacts that killed them.

    I don't know if it was a localized icing situation or not, but I can say from experience that it can catch you. One time, I was driving in cold, but sunny conditions and the roads were completely dry when I went over a bridge that was NOT marked by signs about icing. My car immediately started sliding and going sideways. I steered in compensation, but straightened the wheels before the end of the bridge and the car snapped into the lane again. Had I still been fighting the skid, I am sure it would have rolled. No other bridge had the same thing before or after that one. Pure fluke.

    The part that they censored from the original video when the semi hits the white pickup and it when flying, did someone get ejected from either that pickup truck or the semi? Because no one was walking, then suddenly a guy popped up from the street shortly after the semi hit

      And they were on a slight incline too. Those semi trucks, especially if loaded up, had no chance of stopping. It was also a single lane tollway that merged onto the regular freeway and is a dangerous spot in perfect conditions. Bad design by a private-public partnership that puts profit over safety.

      There is another video of this crash which hasn't had the really bad bits cut out. The FedEx truck was rear ended by a pick up truck which was then rear ended by a SUV. Nobody got out of the pick up truck or the SUV and it was quite a few seconds later that another semi truck hit the SUV at God knows what speed. The SUV went under the pick up truck (You see the pick up truck at 1:21 in this video already on top of the SUV). No way did anybody in the SUV survive.

      1:20 - 1:22. Somebody DID get out of their vehicle! At 1:10 you can see an interior light flick on in the dark colored SUV in front of the white pick up truck. So the guy got out and jumped the guardrail just before the GO2 semi hit those cars.

    Rewatch the video and pay attention to the taillights reflecting from the roadway. Truck drivers are trained to watch for this and to get off the road when they see it. Always watch the taillights of the vehicle in front of you and when the roadway becomes like a mirror, find a safe shelter. I drove long haul and never had an accident, thank God. Surprisingly, most truck-involved accidents on the highway are still initiated by a hot-shot 4-wheeler.

    Sheets of ice on the road, light freezing rain yet people are speeding like crazy, not paying a bit of attention to the conditions of the roads and the rest of the traffic. Stop blaming icy conditions, because there are icy conditions in lots of states all over the country. I grew up in the snowbelt, and we never crashed into each other, we slowed down to a snails pace and crawled through it, we didn't hit black ice doing 60mph. Just watch the speed of those vehicles, it's totally absurd.

    • @tangyjoe4326
      @tangyjoe4326 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It was on a tollway coming down an incline when the hit black ice. Conditions weren’t expected to be that bad. Those semi trucks came over a slight hill and by the time they saw the crash they were sliding down an incline of ice with thousands of tons of load pushing them faster. Poor freeway design played a big part too.

      I believe Dallas/Fort Worth did not know how fast the weather conditions would deteriorate. Texas is not use to extreme ice/snow weather and I think the major dropped the ball. I don’t know if this was preventable but I know people don’t purposely drive recklessly.

    • @valburr262
      @valburr262 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TX is not the snowmelt. If you read the news reports or watched the news it stated it the rain and ice came down fast. This was an overpass where black ice occurred quickly. Apparently it started when a driver slid into the barrier and a chain reaction occure'd. Semis cannot stop on a dime and tragedy ensued.

      Driving too fast, braking became useless. It takes 1300 to 1500 ft for a normal car to stop on ice at 50 mph. Big semi., at least 2500 ft or 1/2 a mile. We did a test or demonstration one winter with the state patrol, the results were frightening.
