Not one Celtic disrespected MJ while talking about his performance. In fact, Ainge even said they looked forward to playing the best. That's a big factor in why the 80s had such great ball.
My favorite is how DJ and Bird had crazy chemistry. God bless you DJ for bringing me the best display of a complete player with the heart of a champion same as Bird & MJ👍👍!

The Celtics have always been that team. Far more legendary than any other franchise. Bird is the only person to hold MJ down. Made him evaluate his status. Jordan's own perspective. MJ learned from Bird. It's what elevated him.
MJ wanted to play ball so bad he decided to rehab himself without the org knowing, making his injured muscles stronger than his uninjured one. like damn, thats some dedication right there.

It can backfire bad to, have a local guy that played soccer for a big team, talent but played in with the boys and broke his leg one day, injuried and without a job the day after. Thankfully he picked up his career and did pretty good after all but there will always be a "what if".

Let's not forget that Jordan faced a team with 4 to 5 hall of fame players in Boston, Detroit and Lakers and they still couldn't stop his individual performance. I could tell you are young when you bring up Lebron. LeBron is nowhere near what Jordan was. Jordan has accomplished alot more in less time than LeBron. You are the type that considers lebron great because he's breaking certain records but do not take into consideration that the records he's breaking is taking him longer than the one that set those records. For example, lebron just passed Magic in assists but took him 7 more years to do it. Now you are probably going to mention that he passed Jordan in 1,300 less shots but would not mention that Lebron also attempted 3,202 more 3's and 868 more free-throws.
You also mentioned about competition. Do you know that they did a study using metrics and winning percentage on the top 10 toughest path through the playoffs and finals to win a championship. Jordan's Bulls own 3 of those spots while LeBron only owns one. LeBron's came in third while one of Jordan's came in second. So please, stop reading into this nonsense that LeBron had a much tougher path than Jordan.
One more fun fact for you.
Jordan played against 39 of the top 75 players to play in the NBA. LeBron played against 17 of the top 75.
Jordan played with 1 and 2 all-stars to win 6 championships while beating 29 of the top 75.
Lebron needed 18 all-stars on his team to go 4-6 in the finals while playing against 8 of the top 75.

Michael's intensity is something to watch. You know he's giving his absolute competitive best at all times. Other players just can't do that unless they're in mood or having a good day but that's every day for Michael.

Game 2 was perfection. The greatest team of all-time versus the greatest player of all time.
An OT thriller, the playoff record for most points(63) in a single game, enough HOF players to fill a bus, and the best possible venue for it to occur in.
What I remember about game 2 is MJ being fouled while attempting a 3 at the end of regulation. He only got 2 FTs to send it to OT though. If it was the current rule of 3 FTs, he could have had a chance to win it.

This is what Phil told Mike when he invited him in their training camp before, to teach Kobe how to let the game come to him and not to force anything taking away the team’s offense. It shows in their FG%. MJ was like 50% while Kobe was 43%.
Kevin McHale's final comment is still what separates Jordan from others that claim greatest. "There was no quit in him. You never saw Michael quit on the basketball court." Kobe had that mentality. Others don't.

Larry Bird was in his Prime, at his Peak... and even he was in shock! For him to say what he said about a young player coming off an Injury and had only played one complete NBA season... tells you that Jordan was just different... think about that. Even that early in Jordan's Career, people knew he'd be the GOAT, and they were right!!

The younger generation talk about that game, that series, as though it's a black mark on Jordan's resume. Bird had a case to be Goat at that point in his career and his team was stacked.
What's more amazing is if you watch that game in full rather than highlights, you'll see Jordan resting on offence and focusing on defence for the first half, trying to get his teammates involved. He was resting on offence for a half and scores 63.

What I love about that era of basketball it was all 100 percent pure balling NO FLOPPING,NO WHINNYING, NO BEGGING AT THE OFFICIALS FOR A CALL..man the physical nature of game was worth a game ticket anytime anywhere.

God hates basketball.
This was the very first basketball game I ever watched. I wouldn’t watch high school college or pros either live in person or on tv. I watched it to see how great Larry was. I remained a big Larry fan but I was convinced on that day to watch every possible Jordan game. Never missed a finals game. Every night I watched him play I would go run a mile or so just so I could calm down and get some sleep.
If you have someone like Larry Bird calling MJ God in a basketball game is the highest compliment a player could get.. That's why MJ is the greatest player ever to play the game.. MJ and Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Russell and Larry Bird are my Greatest players of all time...
VERY few thought Kareem’s all time scoring record would be surpassed, someone some day may break Jordan’s 63pt playoff record. But I HIGHLY doubt it will be against a juggernaut of a team, one with 5 Hall of Famers, one of the greatest teams EVER. That’s what makes MJ’s performance so GREAT!

Kyle Macey was coach at Morehead St back in the late 90s early 2000s. He had a camp every summer. He told the story tht him and MJ combined for for 70 pts. Pretty funny to hear him tell it.

What they never talk about is game three in Chicago when Jordan finished with 19 points, and fouled out when the Celtics attacked him when he was playing defense.

Crazy thing is it was Jordan v a proper Super Team and he was sooo close to actually beating them, aaand this was basically an extension of his rookie season because he’d been out all year, aaand he sank his two free throws at the end of regulation… if it were todays rules he’d have sank one more (because it was a three attempt) and won the game. Imagine if he’d had the luxury of joining a team that already had a bunch of great players like Magic & Bird did.

I lived in Aurora, thirty miles west of Chicago and got to the city often. Before Jordan I could get tickets to ANY game, good seats mostly, and balcony seats were always available. I saw Mike play several times in his first two and a half seasons but, by the middle of his third year the Stadium was full all the time and tickets were scarce or impossible. There has never been a better player or one more important to his team, his city, or the league than Jordan. He changed the game and took Dr. J's game to new heights. The League has expanded and flourished because of Michael Jordan. All of today's players owe him a debt. There is NO player in the league as good as Michael Jordan was. There may never be.

I remember actually watchign that game. I didn't have cable back then. The game was on blackout in detroit. But a friend of a friend, was watching the game. OMG. We had missed the entire season, as Mike was out. MIND YOU, I was in Highschool at the time.
JORDAN Popped 63, over the Boston Celtics.. In which Boston had the best record in the League. And also BOSTON went on to be the World Champions, that YEAR. So the GOAT put up 63 against the World Champs. Same year, Larry Bird was MVP. Things, people forget when Jordan went off for 63.. WHO was he playing, and What team. And winning in BOSTON.. Which was extremely difficult that year.

Today's fans will say it took Jordan overtime to hit 63, while superstars today could hit 60 easily. What they don't realized, the Celtics in the 80s were one of the greatest team ever. They might not have been as athletic as today's stars but they play fundamentally sound basketball and Bird is one of the most clutch player ever. MJ took 0 3 pointers in this game. Meanwhile today's stars need to hit a lot of 3s to even get 60. MJ wasn't even expected to be back after breaking his foot at the beginning of the season. Despite how easy today's players score 60 in a game, This record still stand. This was 2nd year Mike as well without a legit star next to him. People use this series against him as if he's not great, him getting swept by this Boston team back to back is equivalent to Lebron on the Cavs getting swept by the Warriors and Spurs (I believe he's one of the only great players to get swept by a great team). Let's face it the eastern conference in the 80s-90s was tougher, while in the 00 the east was weak.
It was plenty of athletic players in the 80s and 90s maybe even more than today, the only thing different today players have is 3 point shooting because that's what the game is but they had plenty of great shooters that could shoot the 3 too, 80s and 90s was more fundamentally than today's players

The "arguably" thing makes me laugh. You listen to some of the greatest players from the greatest teams talk about this guy in awe, and then look at the stats. A stats-alone analysis allows LeBron to be in the conversation, but the eyeball test just puts that away. A point made at the end is one of the keys for me: Jordan never gave up in a game. LeBron...
That part...yes I couldn't help but think of lebron at that point and think we'll that's the opposite of lebron who gives up when the going gets tough.
