They celebrate what they are able to do and find ways around what they can't.
Donna Mills is perfect as Lillian. She read the prequel Darkest Hour to better understand the character and in my opinion, she was awesome in that role.
I REMEMBER WATCHING THIS THE NIGHT THIS MOVIE AIRED ON TELEVISION. This series had me in a chokehold and Dawn’s grandmother “LILLIAN”, is one EVIL woman! WHEW!
This is a first time watch. Love V.C. Andrews. As usual an interesting & twisted story. Keeps you engaged and wanting more.. I've found part 1-3 but not 4. Hopefully I can find it somewhere 🤞
It looks like they changed a lot of things. Dawn and Louise act completely different and Clara Sue is called Clara Jean, it's a little weird in my opinion
I read Dawn years ago. I thought she was the byproduct of a relationship between Dawn's mother and Lillian's husband, and that was the reason why Lillian resented her.

I'd read two or maybe 3 then I just wouldn't care anymore about what was going to happen Maybe I just didn't notice the plot holes in what I did read. Her books were so... Unsettling. It's odd that they are young adult novels with not so young topics like rape and incest.

But do remember a book that was on my school's book list (in the Netherlands) that was a little provocative (adult female, teenage boy) when I was a teenager. Now looking back I'm sure most of those books on the (public) school's book list were purposely selected to program/alter the young impressionable minds. The last part of your comment reminded me of what's been going on the past year or so with even younger children (inappropriate books, the drag queens book readings, etc). Lowering the age limit, the gr00ming, etc all done on purpose.

Plus these books weren't in the school library. At least that's not where I got them. I don't remember getting any books from the school library.

Granny would have called the cops and told them Dawn was running with the wrong boys, and staying out all night, and saved from doing drugs, and anything else to send her daughter to Juvenile prison. No one would have believed some brat like that regardless of what she claimed to know. They already labeled the nurse as not all there. This was a more pleasant ending though.
OK, IMO they should have switched the actresses for Sally Jean & Laura Sue, Phillip wasn’t that good looking & Clara Sue looks older and thinner than Dawn. Not too bad a take on the Cutler series though.
I remember Laura Sue, Clara Sue and Phillip being blonde in the novels. And in the movie they got Clara Sue's name wrong. It wasnt Clara Jean. But other than that this movie is a good cover of the novels.
