Isn't that really a class act from Bertone. I would not have guessed that this was a Jaguar until, of course, I saw that marvelous engine bay! The grille and hood/bonnet badges notwithstanding!

They definitely took some inspiration from this to the XJS.

Designed by Marcello Gandini....same as Lamborghini Miura, Countach, Diablo, Lancia Stratos and many others....real genius...

Hi Richard, l'm surprised if this piece of sculpture "only" achieved $324K. It's a masterpiece, l immediately thought why is this not a Lamborghini. It's exquisite, someone bagged a bargain. You certainly get around old chap! Still in shock about the entrance fee at Quail !

While I still take the original series 1 over this car, it's a work of art in itself, in line with the Italian super cars of the late 60s and early 70s.

Great to look round it, thank you. Has that ‘leaper’ on the front always been on it, it looks exactly like the ‘leaper’ they put on the back of the latest Jags and very much out of place on that car?

    È semplicemente stupenda

I’ve always wanted to see this car. It’s such a 60s car, it would have been great to drive around Europe in it. Thanks for the great video showing us the details. Surely it’s based on series 11/2?

Roll back the years and imagine how exiting this looked then. Good place for the mascot. Notice US jags often still have one on the bonnet- ouch ! The beauty is in the difference, it's a new era shape. I don't think one can really price a car according to the prototype cost. About £306,000. in today's money. A lot less than what's being paid for some old Jags and Ferraris.

This looks like the same car I saw at a Worcester, MA body shop in the early 80's. I was getting my '63 E-type repainted and this car was parked in the back of the shop. Jay Leno's Garage also features this car in a Mar 2015 episode. According to Leno, the car was a one-off built on a '67 Jaguar 2+2 chassis as a publicity effort by a Brit newspaper. The build cost was 16,000 Brit pounds; and they sold it at auction for 17,000.

I noticed the red line on the tacho is at 5500. Doesn't that make it a 3.8, not, as Richard says, a 4.2? The red line on the bigger engine is 5000. Also, the car looks unusually long. One commenter says it was based on a 2+2 model and that would make sense.
