Mate, there is no „ancient Russia”.
What you’re referring to was baptism of Kiev Rus by Volodymyr the Great (987)
What we now know as „Russia”, centred around Moscow , did not exist then. First prince of Moscow Principality was Daniel (1282) aligned to Khan’s empire, a sworn enemy of both Kiev and Constantinople. As we can see , that Asian alignment didn’t change much :)
Fun fact: The ethnonym, Rus, probably derives from the proto-Finnic and Finno-Ugric name for the Swedes (‘Ruotsi), the “men, who row”. As you probably know Volodymyr comes from a Viking family of Rørik
Fun fact 2: the name „Slav” means literally „a slave” - trading slaves captured in the savage steps of modern day RU was the main source of revenue for Kiev Rus, shipped to Middle East.

thanks for the valuable info bro. I understand what you're saying. Although the ancient russia is not something that existed and there were only tribes then centers and settlements. But this is where most of slavic people came from, and the result of Russia moving east and expsnding led to Russia as we know it today.

Mate to state that Rørik was from a viking family ( as not all of his family were vikings ) is also a misstake .. He was of Swedish origin yes as the noble families of the Kievan RUS did not unite and they needed some one that is why the accepted the agreement from a foregein king .... There is no evidence of any grand swedish invasion for that matter. Secondly why it is wrong to call them all vikings is because viking was a either a job or something you did; as some were pirates, other were merchants , other warriord or mercenaries(most swedes though were peseants and never left the mainland) (vik in swedish, norwegian and danish = bAY) it is blieved that viking comes from the word vik in, which means into the bay: gå in i viken (modern swedish) go into the bay....

@@gorgioarmanioso151 I agree that Rurik dynasty origins are not clear, there simply isn’t enough sources. But the consensus is that the Rus' people originated in what is currently coastal eastern Sweden around the eighth century. Solid Sources exist for later princes of Kiev, starting with Igor (9th century )
Although its true that there was no single „Viking” identity, many of the tribes during Kiev Rus unity shared culture and language spoken (Old Ruthenian) with the rest of West Slavic tribes of that region.
I personally like digging into language history, it’s fascinating. Until recently I didn’t know that there was a dialect of Novogorod who were later assimilated by Muscovy. Or that Old Ukrainian dialect, Rusyn (Ruthenian) , was very similar for tribes in both modern day Ukraine and Belarus, only later split in 2 distinct languages.
