      How many these mattresses have fiberglass? Or extruded silica? What do they use as flame retardant? Note: I know that’s three questions but the answer to the third one should suffice.

    • @NapLabReviews
      @NapLabReviews  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@sethtenrec None contain fiberglass.
      Extruded silica, I'm unsure on that.
      Here's what makes up each mattress fire barrier layer (according to each respective brand's disclosures, FAQs, specs, and/or customer service reps):
      Winkbed = cotton and rayon blend
      Saatva Classic = plant-based thistle made of wood pulp bonded with small amount of polyester
      Amerisleep AS3 Hybrid = mesh fabric made from nylon
      Ghostbed Luxe = Not information provided except that it's CertiPUR certified and does not contain fiberglass
      Saatva Latex Hybrid = 100% organic wool
      Znehaven = 100% organic wool
      iSense Premier = non-woven kevlar
      Winkbed Plus = cotton and rayon blend

    • @sethtenrec
      @sethtenrec 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@NapLabReviews thank you so much for the speedy reply! I’ve read that wool alone will not suffice, even if it’s organic, it’s treated. The same is absolutely going to apply to nylon and rayon, they are not a fire retardant in and of themselves. Some other chemicals are being added.
      The toxic materials, which also include adhesives, are the hardest thing to find out about mattresses. If your channel wanted to go into more depth on that, I think it would be wonderful information for consumers, but not easy to find since the mattress companies don’t want to reveal it.

    • @NapLabReviews
      @NapLabReviews  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@sethtenrec My pleasure.
      I agree that some of these responses feel a bit thin. You're right, I don't know how nylon or rayon alone would suffice. Wool I haven't heard that it wouldn't suffice on its own. My understanding is that wool is generally considered the gold standard as far as health, safety, and effectiveness go.
      If other chemicals are being added they certainly aren't disclosing those anywhere. I cannot recall any mattress brand that I've ever seen disclosing that type of information.
      The material disclosures that the brands listed above provided are among the best I really ever see (excluding Ghostbed of course). Most brands disclose far less than this or simply refuse to disclose anything at all.
      I'll do some digging to see how I would go about finding that information. I too would love to be able to provide that information.

    I was recently talking to my wife, of 30 years, we need a new bed. This will probably be our last bed, so we should get a nice one. I had NO IDEA of the rabbit hole I was about to fall into. This is just craziness. While buying a bed online is easy, it's only easy, IF you don't have to send it back. On top of that, our bedroom is upstairs via a VERY THIN staircase. I only want to do this ONCE, so I have a lot of thinking to do. /sigh.

    Nowadays, purchasing a new mattress is a very difficult task. I am stunned that this organized well objective mattress analysis never listed the traditional mattress companies (Sterns & Foster, Sealy, Serta, etc). I would love to take your test.

      We've already tested numerous Sealy mattresses and the one S&F from Costco. Unfortunately, none of the models we've tested to date rise to the level of earning a spot on this list.

    Where does the Saatva RX come in on your survey? Ty for the video.

    • @NapLabReviews
      @NapLabReviews  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      RX is a fantastic mattress, earning a 9.70 / 10, placing it within the upper echelon of mattresses we've tested.
      It's only real weak spot is moderately higher motion transfer.
      Build quality and material quality are both extremely impressive, as is support. It's an expensive choice at $2.9K for a Queen. For many sleepers, they aren't likely to find the value as strong compared to Winkbed, Saatva Classic, Nolah Evolution 15, and a number of other high performance hybrids.
      However, for those with chronic pains I think the value can make more sense. As the total volume of high quality materials is more in the Saatva RX compared to many other mattresses on the market, allowing it to create incredible support.

    Hello! New to ur channel. Glad i found it! Still watching this video, but I'm wondering if you have tried sleep number mattress? We are thinking of investing into one, but scared to make the same mistake of buying one that will continue to hurt our bodies. I am a side sleeper and my husband spends the night moving around so he's not even sure what type of sleeper he is. We currently own a medium foam mattress, and it's been a complete nightmare since 2016.. it was so expensive that we've dreaded buying a new one. But we have come to the conclusion that we NEED TO UPGRADE! Hoping you have reviewed the sleep number.. i am 5'4 and weigh 145 pounds, suffer from back, waste shoulder and knee pain, and my husband is 5'7 weighs 182 pounds, healthy but we both always wake up with headaches and body pain due to the mattress. We are terrified of purchasing and have been doing alot of research, found you video, and now im not sure what to do.

      I have tested the Sleep Number C2 (one of their less expensive models) - naplab.com/mattress-reviews/sleep-number-review/
      At least with respect to the C2, I really was not impressed. Motion transfer was high, pressure relief was lacking, and the support dynamic was really strange (you have to lie right in the middle of your side to feel well supported).
      To be fair, the C2 is one of their cheaper mattresses, so it's possible their higher end stuff solves these problems.
      That said, I just don't really have any confidence in Sleep Number as a brand. I receive several hundred emails each week from my readers / viewers asking for help and complaining about mattresses. Sleep Number is one of the most complained about mattresses that people are moving away from.

      AS5 Hybrid is softer than Winkbed softer version.
      Biggest difference is also the thin cover on the AS5 Hybrid vs. the quilted euro top on Winkbed. Neither is better or worse, but they are very different feels.

      You are in a small minority of sleepers that really could go either way.
      If you slept on your side at all, I'd say go luxury firm. But since it's just stomach and back the firmer is definitely an option for you.
      A vast majority of sleepers need the luxury firm version. So unless you are just certain you like a firmer feel, I would still say that is your best option. Even so, it's likely you could be happy with either version.

    Im 29 years old and have degenerative disc disease and a bulging disc. I currently have a 10+ year old spring mattress with a 4” memory foam topper. A lot of the mattresses on this list are VERY expensive. I feel like my bed is really comfortable, but might be a tad bit too soft given my back issues. Do you really think spending $500-$1000 is necessary on a mattress, or can i get away with $300-400 and maybe throw a topper over it?

    • @NapLabReviews
      @NapLabReviews  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I definitely do think that spending more money on a mattress is necessary. Cheap mattresses don't last long. Cheap mattresses are also not going to perform as well, not provide as much support, not create as much pressure relief, and generally be a worse for your back, body, and sleep. This is especially true in a case like yours, where you have serious existing medical issues.
      There are only a handful of mattresses under $1000 that I would recommend as a quality product and even fewer under $500.
      Regarding spending $300-$400 + a topper. I would advise avoiding that.
      Take a look at the list here - naplab.com/best-mattress/best-cheap-mattresses/ - These are the best cheap mattresses I've tested to date. They aren't perfect, but they do far more right than they do wrong and they are all within your budget.

    • @NapLabReviews
      @NapLabReviews  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Virtually all mattresses will form body impressions over time, so it's probable that'll you'll experience the same with Saatva or Winkbed. Both Saatva and Winkbed will replace / repair your mattress as part of the warranty if there is 1.5" of sagging or more.
      To help reduce sagging make sure to place the mattress on a high performance foundation and bed frame. In addition, rotate the mattress every 6 months will help as well.

    • @glennspina
      @glennspina 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wink bed will definitely sag after 5 months and leave soft impressions where you lay. Rotating doesnt fix it. Dont get luxury firm get extra firm or plus if you get winkbed. Also they don't care if your mattress gets impressions, they won't replace it or anything. They do t return phone calls or emails. You will be stuck with it so get the firmest they have

Is a latex mattress the best choice for humidity also, what is the best base “bed” for a mattress without a box spring? The one that you are demonstrating your mattresses on looks very supportive and probably add longevity to the mattress.

    • @NapLabReviews
      @NapLabReviews  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Latex would be fine in that environment, as would most hybrid mattresses. I would just make a point to avoid all foam mattresses if at all possible.
      As far as the base, I'd say either a platform frame (like what you see in the video) or a slatted frame would be your best choices.
      As far as the specific model goes, I would need more information to provide a personalized recommendation. If you'd like a recommendation just answer the questions here - naplab.com/mattress-quiz/

      @debmaccallum5940 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@NapLabReviews what specific brand would you suggest for humidity? Also, I like the flat base for a mattress however the slatted ones might provide more air flow. Is there a standard number of slats per bed size. Saw somewhere that people chose to put a thin piece of plywood over the slats. I don't understand why if there is adequate mattress support from the slats. It's very confusing and can be expensive hence my questions to narrow down what I need.

    • @NapLabReviews
      @NapLabReviews  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@debmaccallum5940 You're in a tough spot here...yes, slats do provide more airflow, but they also create worse support than a platform. For slats to provide great support they need to be at least 3" wide, gaps no more than 3" between slats, be fully rigid (no flex, no bowed slats), and have a thick beam running down the middle for center of mattress support. Many slat frames fail to live up to this level, so the plywood on top of slats helps to solve this issue.
      As far as the brand best for humidity...there is no particular mattress brand that I would say is ideal for humidity.
      I would get the mattress that meets your comfort / firmness / support needs and then tackle the humidity issue with:
      1) Full encasement waterproof mattress protector
      2) Dehumidifier

      @@NapLabReviewscould you point out the reason why avoid all foam mattresses? I was thinking of getting the zenhaven.

    • @NapLabReviews
      @NapLabReviews  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@kajlolization In general, hybrids are higher performance than all foam mattresses. All foam mattresses tend to be warmer, have worse bounce (which means greater difficulty moving around and worse sex), and don't last as long (support foam doesn't remain as supportive as long as coils).
      Bear in mind though...these are just generalities and it doesn't apply to every all foam mattress or every hybrid.
      When comparing to a mattress like Zenhaven those weaknesses just don't exist. All natural, all organic latex is a totally different animal. Latex sleeps cool as latex as a material type just doesn't retain heat as much, it has higher bounce while still minimizing motion, and it's likely to last in the 15 year range (latex is one of the most durable mattress materials on the market).

    What are the different types of density of mattress??
    Please

    • @NapLabReviews
      @NapLabReviews  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Density varies by each individual foam layer. It isn't mattress-wide.
      2.5-3.5 PCF (pounds per cubic foot) is pretty typical for a foam comfort layer. With some higher end mattresses using 4-5 PCF foams. While higher density foams are generally considered better due to their increased longevity, they are also more expensive and are more prone to heat retention compared to lower density foams.
      Support foams are typically around a 1.8 PCF.

    I appreciate your variety of categories and enjoy your reviews but I must disagree with you. I currently have two of your winners. The winkbed (softer) and the Saatva classic. I enjoy the winkbed (queen) but my wife finds it too soft so we purchased the Saatva classic(king). I hate it and this is where i question your rating. The motion transfer in the winkbed is much less than the Saatva classic: Everytime my wife moves in the Saatva , the entire bed bounces like a cheap coil mattress from any movie trying to depict poverty. I had hopes that the dual layers of coils would suppress this but it's the worst bed I've had in years as far as motion transfer yet you rank it near the top. Other than medicine balls, how do you rate the motion transfer? Thanks.

    • @NapLabReviews
      @NapLabReviews  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Our motion transfer score an objective score that uses accelerometer data precisely measure motion. To complete our motion transfer tests we place our accelerometer on one side of the mattress and drop a 12 pound medicine ball on the other side.
      Acceleration is measured in meters per second squared (m/s2). If an object (in this case our accelerometer) accelerates in 5.0 m/s2 that means the speed is increasing by 5.0 meters every second. The higher the acceleration, the more motion is created on the mattress.
      The initial medicine ball drop and rebound creates an acceleration range (IE, a minimum and maximum acceleration), which are the data points we use for our scores.
      If I may ask - what type of foundation and frame are you using? Both can have an impact on mattress performance, including motion transfer. Did you also get the soft version of Saatva's Classic?
