This seems way more useful and conpatible than the "tone wood." Have you heard of that one? It gives effects to the natural acoustics of a guitar, magnetic as well and can be plugged in, but it's a seemingly bulky box that is attached on the hindside of the body of the guitar. I guess they serve incomparable in retrospect and each have their benefits
The Tonewoodamp is an 'effects unit' that needs an input device.. (it is not an amp) for guitar without built-in pre-amp or NON electric acoustic guitar or classic guitar.. TWA still requires an input device.. KNA kremona for classic or cling-on mic can be used as a source.. but I think the mic will pick up on the effects by TWA (not good at all). People also assume that with name tonewoodamp that their acoustic will sound louder.. sorry to bust that bubble.. the unit itself vibrates the back of the acoustic guitar.. making it like a speaker cone.. the effects come out of the soundhole (simple as that). I have Fishman neo-D humbucker and rare earth humbucker soundhole pickup for my acoustic guitar, it sounds pretty good if you do all the suggested notch filter setup. I just bought the cling-on mic for my Ohana sk30l long neck ukulele (tenor scale). because I was searching for how to amplify my uke without drilling into it. Thank you 'This is Classical Guitar' for the demo.. made it easy decision for me to get it. Sorry didn't mean to make long reply 😔.
In this video, I feel like this pickup sounds a lot better than the non invasive bridge piezos like the KNA NG 2. Do you have a preference between this and the KNA pickups?
The bridge pickups sound better in my opinion but it does depend on the gig you are playing. Sometimes when playing background music you just need to cut through so balance is less important in those situations.
you can just buy a Sunyin transducer for $18 then attach adhesive metal disc to the transducer and buy a strong magnet to hold it in place. a lot less $ than the cling on
I've just bought a cheap clip-on CP-60G, but it acts pretty wierd - it picks up anything that happens with the instrument much louder than the music itself. Like I breathe and my clothes touch the guitar - and it picks this up REALLY loud. Or fingers touching the fret board or guitar body in any place - these sound like drums. Or when I pick strings - the sound of picking is extremely loud. But the music itself - is much softer :) So to play it you really need to sit still, don't breathe, very accurately pick the strings and don't touch anything you don't want to touch. I wonder if this one is similar?
Yes, these types of mics do that on guitars. I find it's better if it's near a significant brace or on the bridge but I think I might just be used to them and how they react.
Well, none of them sound 'natural' but the under the saddle one by KNA is the best so far (not as good as a mic of course) www.thisisclassicalguitar.com/review-kremona-kna-ng-1-piezo-pickup-for-classical-guitar/
Oh I think it would be pretty minimal especially due to the fact that running the guitar through this mic is going to affect it more. You only need a small patch and can place it next to a brace to reduce any reduction from the open areas of the top wood.
How does this compare to the Schaller Oyster? The Oyster seems really durable and I know Sharon Isbin played it (at some time on the past anyway. It's been around a long time).
The Schaller is good and simple. However, there are new contact mics coming out now with volume adjustments on the little pickup which is very welcome!
Plug the pick up directly into your interface.
finally someone who cares to compare sound in a good way :) thanks sir !
Glad you liked it!
I’m sold! Great review, great playing too!

Interesting, does it only affect the guitar to create effects or can it be used to amplify?

I would fix it in the lower front horn as I found many sound engineers point mics there recording live sessions.
excellent review.. you covered all the bases. and thanks.. I had no idea what to call cling vinyl but I've been looking for it. Namaste !

very well done and thorough review
Thanks for watching

If I have a piezo microphone, what cable and amplifier do I need to buy to turn my acoustic into a semi electric?
I'm interested in getting it 🙂
Cool! Thanks for sharing!
Which amp is that? I like it.
It's the Roland AC33, all my gear is listed here: www.thisisclassicalguitar.com/classical-guitar-store-reviews/
Out of all the pickups you've tried, can you kindly tell me which one offers the most natural, acoustic sound?
Thanks

is it available in EU?
Would be very interested to see the feedback resistant test. Placing the guitar right in front of the amp etc.
Well, as always when playing a gig, have the amp in front of you. But it's not a mic so it will only pic up the resonance created in the guitar .
@@Thisisclassicalguitar Sorry what I meant was can you test the feedback resistance by placing the guitar in front of the amp if possible. Thanks.
Super review! Thanks. Your very inventive too!! 😘
Glad you liked it!!
I like the idea of the cling vinyl. Do you find that the wood of the guitar doesn't resonate as well when attached?

@@Thisisclassicalguitar Thanks for the response!
1st Song name? 😊, great review
k&k only $30 more than this.
worth it?
it's basically a sunyin transducer with a magnet which only cost $20
Is it suitable for a guitar with nylon strings?
Yes!
@@Thisisclassicalguitar Yes and with the extra magnets you can place a few on different areas and get different ambient EQ.
Can you connect to a Bluetooth speaker and guitar
With the right gear you could, I guess you'd just plug this into a bluetooth device designed to cast.
Thx
How much this pickup?
I think around $59
I would guess that this wouldn't be recommended for use by anyone with a pacemaker or similar device.
Interesting point but I assume people with pacemakers know what to watch out for.
Also not recommended for doing songs by Gerry and The Pacemakers. :o)
Noooooo!!! I just bought the KNA AP-2!
You'll be happy with it. All these contact mics sound similar, the big thing here is just the volume dial.
picked one up yesterday - its garbage plain and simple - like a mono download - muttled blah!
For the same price have you tried anything better that you can suggest for people?
