    Lou Ferrigno shares his thoughts on the perception of steroid use and intelligence of athletes in bodybuilding.
    While bodybuilding has gotten more and more exposure with each passing decade - it's ultimately still a niche sport to the mainstream. This sadly allows certain stereotypes to continue in pop culture. The two most popular ones are bodybuilders being dumb meatheads who all use steroids. In our latest GI Exclusive Vault interview, Lou Ferrigno discusses in detail his thoughts on the public's perception on bodybuilder's intelligence and steroid use in the sport.
    GI VAULT - is an extension of our GI Exclusive interviews. The difference? These interviews come straight out of the Generation Iron vault from the cutting room floor of our feature film documentaries. With over hours of interview footage that doesn’t make it into our final films, we’re now releasing them out into the world.

    Lou seemed to have grown a lot. I met Lou twice. Once in California at Worlds Gym in 1990 and another time at a seminar Golds Gym, Ajax, Ontario in the later 1990's. Both times he was actually rude. But, I think he has changed a lot. At least it appears so from his recent interviews I've watched. I actually like him now. He seems intelligent and has a good outlook.

    Time and again I hear ex bodybuilders say oh steroids only help about 10%??? We know that is all rubbish.of course the muscle lengths/bellies is genetic,they also have more receptor sites than the average person so respond to steroids more than the average man.but without steroids they would just look like normal guys.which is why once they all stop taking steroids they all go back to looking like average Joe's. They all basically lose 50% of their size.

      I've had AWESOME interactions with Ronnie Coleman, Dexter Jackson, Shawn Ray (yeah, I know, right?), Samir Bannout, Paul Dillet, Laura Creavalle, etc.; however, meeting Lou was the most disappointing encounter, even though it started off great. It was all around the issue of signing some items (personalized for my daughter) and just taking a photo with him. I had already purchased an 8"x10" photo that he signed and a copy of Stand Tall (which he charged me extra to sign), but he wanted $40 to sign the DVD set of the Incredible Hulk that I brought with me, and he wouldn't let me take a photo with him. He wanted $28 to take a picture with him, and it had to be done the next day or the day after... even after I explained that I was only in town for the day! So, yeah, I wasn't too happy. My friend took a couple of pictures of my interaction with Lou. The look on my face after he wanted to charge me $40 to sign a $10 copy of a DVD that I brought, while refusing to take a picture with me, says everything that I can't express in words.

    Steroids definitely play a huge role.
    Lou used to compete at 275 lbs back in the 70’s. You ever see what he looked like during his early 1990’s comeback? He weighed 315 lbs. You think that was all superior training? That was the gear.

    • @IronWarrior86
      @IronWarrior86 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      And he used plenty of Steroids to achieve that lean 275lb physique in the 70s. If you want to see what he naturally looked like you would have to look at pictures taken of him at 15 and no later. Like Arnold he practically was never natural and used from the get-go.

    Come on....I see plenty of guys I know who were either skinny or never had an ounce of muscle who took real good gear and trans form in a few months like a whole complete different body and size. When they go off and still workout the same they deflate like a flat tire. Even pics of Arnold in the early 1970s off gear floating around on internet, looked like the avg. gym guy nothing like he looks when on.
    Steroids especially pharmacy grade makes a world of difference.

    • @bboichirok661
      @bboichirok661 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ok I could agree on the pharm grade gear making a world of difference because I’ve experienced that years ago , but genetics and hard work does play a big part . These younger gym guys don’t get it , no matter how much gear you take it doesn’t mean you could be a Ronnie , jay , Phil or a Dorian because if that was the case then every guy on gear would be as strong and have a physique to their caliber which is just not the case. I know guys personally who take a gram of this and a gram of that and I never took anything close to that and I’ve always looked better and was stronger even until this day where I don’t use any gear and haven’t for years. What they fail to relay is that I was natural for almost a decade before I tried any gear at all , the guys I’m talking we’re not natural for more than 6 months before they started pumping gear and this is why when they come off they look like shit because they never built a solid foundation before touching any of that shit. Nothing substitute a crazy work ethic nothing ! Also , some people just have crazy genetics and I know a few that have some sick genetics , I mean these guys don’t even drink protein so imagine if they even popped a 10mg dbol pill ? They would look insane I’m telling you man. Some people need gear to grow some don’t it’s definitely real don’t be ignorant.

      If you don't have the natural genetic ablity, if you don't primarily train smart and healthy and only use steriods for the extra boost of perfection the only thing they are helping you to is an early grave. The recent rash of deaths in this new generation at very young age some still while competing proved that. So you can get all fu*ked up and fu*k up others if you actually believe and promote the theory that the steriids are the way to go.

      Im a geneticist for the last 17 years so it's always frustrating seeing myths like this propagate and grow. Yet, the genetic explanation keeps growing in comment sections and social media in general when it comes to fitness and bodybuilding.
      One have to keep in mind that the roots of the "genetic" explanation was a way for BB's, fitness companies and other stake holders to try to lie about steroid use and other PEDs as BB could have been banned otherwise. Nobody in the know took it seriously then, everyone in the business knew that this was a way to ignore tough questions about PED use, and also a way to sell products to the masses.

    All these people on here dismissing his comments about genetics well, just because you train like an Olympic athlete doesn't mean you're going to be an Olympic athlete unless you have those genetics. It's true that steroids can help you get to the next level but you would never even begin to get there if you didn't have a certain genetic makeup and when you look at all these guys when they were kids they were all naturally lean and when they were teenagers they had a natural muscularity about them.
