‘Done nothing in two years’: Bill Shorten ‘diagnosing problems’ without fixing them

  • NIDS Minister Bill Shorten has “done nothing in two years”, says Shadow NDIS Minister Michael Sukkar.
“Two years he has been running around diagnosing problems with one minor detail - he is the minister who is actually able to make some changes,” Mr Sukkar told Sky News Australia.
“And he has done nothing in two years.”

So is Aboriginal affairs and the dole is also being rorted not just the NDIS but let’s keep complaining yet fail to make all the other tax payers money with other groups who do exactly the same yet they are not under the microscope.
There are issues in both sides and both providers and participants have been involved with the way the NDIS has run with many participants thinking it is Centrelink money and have become entitled not trying to increase their capacity to improve their lives.
The NDIS is a program about building capacity in their lives not one to sit on their backsides to do nothing but many don’t understand program.

In Australia multiple furniture, bedding and appliances centres have NDIS stickers on their shop windows. Have a disability? New appliances, whatever new mattress you want even a $6,000 one, new furniture, new TV, appliances....whatever. Want a massage no problem. Want cooking lessons we provide that too. Want one on one fitness training no problem? Want holidays and overseas trips no issues. Want your garden done each month and pool cleaned, gutters cleaned, car washed and detailed, lawns mowed, a personal chauffeured vehicle no issues. NDIS is the worst train wreck of a scheme ever devised and makes pink batts look like a small blip

Who rorts the system? Michael Sukkar doesn’t say. Surely not the disabled tenants, doubtful it’s not the the property developers although they, in some cases, receive an astronomical 100,000 pa per apartment which contains one bedroom for the disabled person and one for a carer -100m2 in area. A lot of money too much .
It must be the property managers/ service providers but in a small minority. I mean prostitution and drugs seems beyond belief.
The big issue sadly is the NDIS can’t be substantiated in the medium term. The expense to the budget is off the chart and Shorten knows it.

Start at the bottom and find out just what qualifies a person for NDIS funding. According to Centerlink a drug or alcohol addiction is classed as a disability for the purposes of claiming a disability pension. Also inmates who have served 5 years or more and are released are also classed as disabled because they will have difficulty adjusting to society. These are not disabilities. Providers need to be qualified and funding only used for these services. Un-licensed or un-qualified providers should be banned immediately. Qualified providers should only be able to invoice the NDIS and be audited for services provided and the cost. Purchasing drugs, alcohol, sex worker services or even holidays etc are not an appropriate use of public money.

    • @Kylie-oz3ks
      @Kylie-oz3ks 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

It was te registered, "qualified" providers who were claiming for services they didn't provide when I was plan managed. I would report the invoices as no service provided and get told there was nothing they could do about it. The biggest problem is much higher up than small self managed funds. As a person in a wheelchair I can't get a ramp to my front door and a shower every day funded but if I get a anxiety or depression diagnosis I can get all sorts of stuff. I just want well fitted wheelchairs, an accessible car, an accessible home and the minimum carers I can get away with. If I want a holiday I will save up for one like everyone else. Like a lot of people I can't afford to buy a house and have to rent. The reason given for not funding a ramp is I might have to move and that is a waste of taxpayers money.

You can't just "buy a car". Its most likely someone spent 4 years at tribunal to justify that car and its probably an adaptable one for the persons workers to drive. This would ultimately save the scheme money rather than paying 0.99c a kilometre everytime that person wants to leave the house. My km because im regional cost the scheme $400 a week for me to get to work, Appointments etc... that's $20k a year! Over 7 years that's 140k in kilometres for me to get around. So yes, for some people, an adaptable car would be both reasonable and value for money overall.
And you can't just "buydrugs". It's likely a dodgy worker organised to claim hours worked in return for giving the Participant drugs. Therefore its a worker screening issue and lies with providers doing the wrong thing. You can't just withdraw money, it doesn't work that way. I wish they would get actual people with a disability to discuss these topics rather than talking ABOUT us. Typical abelist behaviour, scaremongering. The majority of people are doing the right thing and fighting for even the basic supports they need to live their life. If that involves a mattress or other things people have mentioned here, then there has usually been reports, justification and hours of appeals to get that support. The holidays and cruises are classified as STA. All pwd get 28 days of respite funded in their plan if they have a condition that requires it. But to get STA listed is a rigorous process for people or children that have serious conditions. People are not just going around having free holidays. Remember theres always 2 sides to every story.

When I had a relation in the state based disability system, it was run as tight as a drum, except when Pollies interfered, of course. Now I'd doubt that the supervision of the NDIS is in the hands of empire builders, not staff keen on rooting out rorts and prosecuting criminal misuse of money. The NDIS should supply only basic supports for living, specialist therapies, special equipment, minor home modifications ( no elevators), and limited boondoggles like holidays, and those only in the home state, perhaps every three years at most.

The NDIS might have been a noble idea in the first place. But the way it's structured is open to massive fraud. And Shorten is a political creature who still thinks he is the smartest guy in the room but would not last five minutes in the private sector, where if you don't bring in results you are out. Shorten is very good at fixing nothing.

Sadly Bill has failed the NDIS again and we still have issues on all sides that are doing the wrong with the NDIS. If they continually want to cut the NDIS then aboriginal affairs and the dole need to also be cut as you cannot complain about one system that has issues and not fix the others that also get drugs, smokes , tattoos etc with tax payers money.

CAP the NDIS. They CAP EMDG and many other schemes. So cap the NDIS at $20 Billion a year indexed to CPI.

Please worship the CREATOR OF THE UNIVERSE, THE LORD GOD and try not to worry too much about the differences between the different religions and denominations, try to think about the similarities and the things they may have in common more than the differences. Daily prayer is a fundamental part that many people do not practice although it is encouraged

Why doesn't the Government run the NDIS like the Aged Care scheme. Under this scheme the recipient is allocated a package dependent on the disability/ how frail the recipient is so they can get what they need. Each person chooses a provider but the big difference is that every purchase has to be approved and 'passed' by the provider. Most purchases need the input of an O.T. or a letter from the person's doctor to say that they would benefit from this purchase. The scheme seems to work quite well and there is little chance of rorting so it's value for money and keeps the recipient in their own home.
