Had to do a bit of insert editing regarding the Schofield try.

Thanks for these. Cheered me up no end! It was a different kind of brutal game back then, lots of personality!

Great Game 😀 That Central Park atmosphere was unbelievable. Lewis was a very good captain, great motivator and organiser. Cheers for the memories 😁😁

By scoring for Great Britain in this test, Schofield joined a select band of players who would score a try in each test in an Ashes series. Sam Backo (1988) and Mal Meninga (1990) would later join the group.
The full list (including Meninga) is: George Tyson (GB 1908-09), Johnny Thomas (GB 1908-09, 1910), Jim Leytham (GB 1910), Jonty Parkin (GB 1924), Ike Southwood (GB 1958), Ken Irvine (Aus 1962, 1963-64), Garry Schofield (GB 1986), Sam Backo (Aus 1988) and Mal Meninga (Aus 1990).

    Lewis - Dowling - Miles....TRY !!!. The QLD connection
Bob Lindner showed tremendous pace for a forward in scoring his try

Man, has there ever been a better tackler than Brett Kenny..?

Hell, U could argue, has there ever been a better Rugby League player than Brett Kenny?,,. The guy is freakishly gifted, no wonder they called him the Natural.

Unbelievable eh! I came to Rl just as he was ending his career, but you could see even then his humility and class.

@@mozdickson Oh hell yes. As good as Billie Slater was, Garry Jack will always be the goat fullback for me. To be an authomatic pick for rep duties durng the rough and tumble Winfield Cup comp in the 80s when there were so many other great fullbacks around pretty much sums up Garry Jack's quality. When U want somebody to hold the last line of defence against fearsome attacks, there's no better than GJ.

Love watching Walter play, but good on them all in those bygone days. Shame about the high tackles, though, as they are so dangerous. Brett Kenny's tackles were glorious.

An observation of the game "back then" in terms of defence. Generally man on man at the first point of contact (around the ruck) with a backup defender coming in to support. Quite different from the game of today where the ball carrier will generally be meeting up to three defenders first up at the line.

This game 3 especially showed how "sloppy" the play was back in the day. Look at poor play of the ball, scrum feeds and tackle of the ball carrier. Bit "cleaner" these days to be fair.

also, the modern game revolution is about whats happening off the ball. Here, the only thing happening on the field was centered around the man holding the ball

See Australia bang it up the middle, hang on to the ball and on the last tackle assault the defence.
GB chip over the top, offload after offload and any half break is followed up with the hope and pray pass no matter what.
Low vs high % play, You probably shouldn't take a field goal when 14-18 down, proved fatal that.

Seems like fair compensation for the filthy scum on the other side whose target area for tackles was the head.
