- There is a new evacuation order for a seaside area of Athens as wildfires continue to rage in Greece, with one person confirmed to have been killed.
Helicopters had to be grounded overnight for safety reasons but are back in the air attempting to put out the fires, along with trucks and hundreds of firefighters.
European countries are sending aid and resources.

Greece has been facing the danger of forest fires since forever really. People need to understand though, that this is not happening because of the heat. Politicians are paying poor people to start burning the forests, they’re promising better pensions and salaries/better job positions. It’s a national tragedy really that poverty has led these people to sell their own country out. Praying for all countries , including Greece 🇬🇷

I think all the countries that are facing wildfires every year should not spend money on buying expensive ,cutting-edge technology military equipments. Over the last five years, Greece has spent approximately €7-8 billion on acquiring new warplanes .
Don't get me wrong guys but with 8 billion dollars Greece can buy 228 to 266 Canadair and if they are lifted simultaneously they can confront any fire. What is the purpose of modernizing your army when you cannot protect your country from within. I, personally feel sorry for the losses of the normal citizens, the politicians will fake to be sorry and will go on with their anti-popular agenda.
Their excuse is that we need military planes to keep us safe. But when it comes to fire we'll just make BBC videos out of it. Our 'leaders' are disgusting.

It’s about more than just watering forests. It’s also about having the correct fauna that prevents other fauna from burning faster. Deforestation and such increases risk of fire in some areas. A lot of fires are also started by people being stupid in fire prone areas or even just committing arson.

Idk about this particular fire, but that’s definitely an issue globally. One of the recent fires in California was caused by a person purposely committing arson in a fire-prone area. There’s also people who are just stupid and accidentally set fires during gender reveal parties and things like that

@@mauxuwon6252using sea water is complicated. The salt has to be removed from it. Desalination is extremely expensive and requires intense technology. Hopefully desalination efforts will become cheaper and more streamlined in the future.

Greeks are significantly more opposed to renewables than most other Europeans. This isn't without basis: wind farms have consistently been built in areas of natural beauty, felling large tracts of old growth forests (just like the fires we're looking to prevent) to make way for them. There's plenty well founded suspicions that fires are often started and/or left to burn to clear the way for development, both of property and infrastructure. It's a complicated one. Having clear restrictions on where wind farms can be built and perhaps drives to put solar panels over urban sprawl would be better moves - but y'know, corruption. Lots of corruption.

And how do you think your country will cope without tourists. I have visited several places under Greek auspices and can only say that it is a magnificent country with lovely people, but I have also noticed how dependent they have become on the income that comes with the tourists.
