    That miracle grow peat moss can eventually kill the Venus flytrap and sundew as they can’t handle fertilizers and miracle grow outs slow release fertilizers into their products. Also, the moss should only be on the top of the peat as that is how it naturally grows! Also they need a lot of light to survive ad grow readily. Lastly, these plants, don’t really need the humidity! If you need help or tips please let me know! Overall great video though!!

      Thank you for all the tips, I am always eager to learn more! Both plants outgrew my terrarium and had to be replanted into a bigger space. Now they live inside of my mini indoor green house. I've heard accounts of miracle grow killing these plants, I guess I got lucky :)

    I like your style. So far, this is the only video I have seen from your channel, but first impressions are A++. I will definitely be browsing your channel after posting this comment.
    What I like most, besides the beautiful concept and its execution, was the streamlined and clutter free the delivery and editing. Having been teaching on Zoom lately, I know how easy it is to “spin your wheels” when speaking in front of a camera about a detailed topic or process. Consequently, the vast majority of tutorials get bogged down with excess word litter which can make the most interesting topic tedious. Your delivery, on the other hand, never skipped a beat, was crystal clear and fully informed. The sprinkling of subtle humor kept it real.
    Awesome job on a well made tutorial as well as a beautiful terrarium.

    • @KENTOSI
      @KENTOSI 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think so. Fertilizers can kill carnivorous plants. They've adapted to eating insects due to the mineral poor soils they're native to.

    I am amazed that you grew VFT in that terrarium. I thought you needed "at least" 4 hours of direct sun light. I have mine next to the west windowsill where it gets 6+ hours of summer afternoon very intense sun light and still the VFT is struggling with lack of light.

    • @UrbanOko

      VTF can be very finicky, in recent months I transferred it to my mini indoor greenhouse because it got too big so now it mainly gets my grow lights and loves it.

      She used a Mircale gro mix. All mircale gro mixes tend to have fertilizers or nutrients that will eventually kill the venus fly traps. The roots hate any form of nutrients and thus will burn away. The roots prefer mostly ionized (distilled) water, a subtrate that has unbreakable bonds (inert) such as silica sand, perlite, and pure sphagnum and peat moss, so it doesn't get absored by the roots, etc.. The nutrients are only received from the bugs the venus fly trap leaf mouths that it consumes, helping the plant grow stronger. Also, the leaves receive energy from the sun.

    Flytraps don’t need a terrarium. In my experience they do best in full fun outside. Also while the sphagnum is just used for decoration this time it good to mention that the moss in the video isn’t sphagnum. If you use sphagnum as a substrate make sure is actually sphagnum.

    • @UrbanOko
      @UrbanOko  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You're right they don't need a terrarium, but mine lived in it until it outgrew the space and I enjoyed the look while it lasted. I ordered the moss from amazon and the bag said Sphagnum moss. My plants now live in my mini green house so far so good fingers crossed :D

    Sundews are one of the most wide spread genus' of carnivorous plants in the world and are found on every continent except Antarctica. Don't forget that these plants need lots of light and distilled water, RO water, or water with less than 50ppm. Depending on the species such as flytraps need winter dormancy.

Another question is if it's not too much to ask can i see how your people flytrap looks since I've never seen one before. Is it actually purple? Also im thinking of keeping them outside but these are my first VFT and living in this AZ climate i could use any helpful knowledge. If im successful i would love to broaden my carnivorous plant varieties. Thanks in advance

It doesnt really need insects to live it is still a plant that uses photo sentecis and insect are like a boost. If you want to hand feed your plant an insect it must be Max 1/3 of the traps size and only feed 1 trap/plant
