    In this video I want to talk about a tool that I use and it should be considered a
    toy because it's so much fun to use and that is a Pela 650 oil extractor. Nah I've had
    this one for about 5 years and I have evacuated all kinds of fluids from all different
    types of vehicles and equipment. Such as my F 150 pickup truck my Buick LeSabre and also many different lawn equipment products such as Cub Cadet John Deere MTD lawn boy stihl Yard Machine Toro Troy Bilt and many others. This will work with power steering fluid brake radiator coolant antifreeze gear oil transmission fluid gasoline diesel kerosene and water. This unit doesn't require very many pumps for to suck all the oil out of whatever it is you're trying to drain and it's much quicker to and cleaner. Thank You for watching my video and continue to check out my other videos on tools that people use in their garage.

    I am buying one of these, because my new car has TWO large road shields to remove for drain plug access, and Torx T-45 drain plug, and a sealant used by the garage at last oil change. Soo much to fuss with below! This seems much easier.

    I've used these Pela products for around 12 years - no problems - no mess and quick
    Before I used the drain plug method - hard work snicking under the car and messy - I used an old 5 litre can with the top cut off to catch and once after I was done i pulled the can out and just picked it up - 5 litres of dirty oil on the garage floor - you can still see the stain - I was 18 now I'm 63 - never forget that dumbo day - ruined my shoes and jeans.
    I also worried about the seal on the drain plug - so much so that I still have a lot of copper washers.
    Extractor for me and change every 5000.

      @First Last oil filters are really more like strainers for chunky stuff... 20kMi (they do have a built-in pressure bypass)
      Air filters 30 to 50kMi
      It's best to use good filters with the right micron spec instead of junk filters changed more often.
      Benz filters use fleece media others use paper cardboard media
      👍🏻

      5 to 8kMiles interval with a good 10w40 oil is a pretty good idea because what degrade first in the heated oil are the additives...
      when the viscosity gets out of spec oil usually thins out then evaporates through PCV into the intake manifold onto intake valves 😂

    The "incomplete drain" speculation has a work-around: after sucking out all you can, add half a quart of new oil as a flush (with pump suction released), let it sit briefly, then suck it out. And, if you're super fussy, you can even repeat that as needed until the extract looks light colored (i.e., like clean new oil) ... that is, assuming the suction hose walls don't hold color from the spent oil.

    • @glasser2819

      oil change frequency is more important than the 1/2 teaspoon left behind... 5 to 8kMi is best (instead of 10 to12kMi: not good) 🙂

    How is this holding up after 8 years? Have you had to replace the seals? Is the suction still working? I'm considering getting this

    • @JDAfrica
      @JDAfrica 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’ve real seals are worn mainly if used with brake fluid or petrol … as it eats / degrades the rubber seals. I’ve also read that the main issue with seals going bad is over pumping the vacume and putting too much stress on seals.
      Lastly they recommend not leaving the fluid in the reservoir for a very long time (weeks).

  • @charlieplanb8513
    @charlieplanb8513 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    It looks like you would need to0 put the canister somewhere in the engine bay so the tube would reach the oil pan?Do you have to hold the tube during extraction like you did in the video? Whats the black rubber ball type thing on the tube for

    • @Foxboss9
      @Foxboss9  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      charlie planb The tube is rigid. It has a wire in the smaller diameter ones. If it isn't held down it wants to stand straight up. That makes the residual oil on the tube walls drain into the reservoir. If it is inserted into a dipstick tube it doesn't need held.. The tubes can be connected together for reach, like in an engine compartment.. I usually sit the pump on a wooden step stool.... The black rubber ring is a modification I added to pull oil from certain riding mower engines. It seals to the top of Briggs intek engine fill tubes that have narrow bottoms where the tube can't reach.

    Quick question: how do you clean it after you poor out the old fluids? The thing looked brand new when you started!!

    • @Foxboss9
      @Foxboss9  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ernie Santamaria well you can flush it out with something like purple Power or mean green Cleaner. All you do is just suck the cleaner up into the container and then slosh it around and pour it out. That's what I do the majority of the time. But sometimes a little bit of sludge will build up in the bottom and one of the best benefits of the pump is that it completely disassembles easily so it can be wiped clean. All the disassembly and reassembly can be done without needing any gaskets. Thanks for watching.

    Hi..a question regarding this Pela 650...the base/main tube connects to the extractor...but then you have two other extension tubes that connect to the main tube...but what's strange is that the plastic piece at the end (orange & black), each has got a difference diameter of the empty hole..why? after all, one of the extension tubes connects to ONLY ONE AND THE SAME base/main tube and that base/main tube has got just ONE diemeter.....the hole in the black piece seems bigger than the one in the orange piece..I wonder, why there is a difference of the hole in each rubber end piece? not clear to me..:-) THanks

    • @Foxboss9
      @Foxboss9  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ralph der Kapitaen I've used them in tandem for extra length which requires the smaller tubes to be inserted into the rubber. BUT I rarely do that(Maybe twice in 8 years)

    • @ralphderkapitaen9875
      @ralphderkapitaen9875 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes, extra length..plus the extension tubes are smaller in diameter than the main tube.....but my question and what I was wondering about was, why each of the rubber (black and red) has got different size of empty hole (where you connect it with the main tube), if there is just one main tube with 1 size....kinda strange..unless the one I have received was not done correctly and both rubber pieces should have one and the same hole in diameter...maybe i just got a bad product..no idea. Thanks

    What's a quart? A litre? Because they're 6.5 litres but you say quart. It's a measurement we don't use in the UK, same with 3/16ths of an inch. Mm and cm...

      +Foxboss9 I have the exact same one, they're great. Got it for a boat with a 351 Windsor V8 that I couldn't access the sump plug.
      The US really needs to go metric like the other 6.6 billion people in the world. As a kid we used imperial/fractional, so I know it, but it's grossly inferior. FYI 1 US quart = 0.946 litres
      Metric is the only system that ties weight, distance, area, volume AND temperature into a simple base 10 measurement. It's brilliant.
      Remember just one thing: a tonne of water is the volume of 1 metre cubed. A millimetre is 1000th of a metre, a gram is 1000th of a kilogram (go figure!). There are 1000 kilograms in a tonne (or a million grams).
      Water boils at 100 degrees centigrade and freezes at zero.
      Does it get any simpler than that? Brilliant.
      I could go on, but I'm sure you get the point.

      @Foxboss9  8 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @Foxboss9
      @Foxboss9  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I had one of those when I worked for Sears in the past. But there was a few downfalls I found. 1) it will work for one type of fluid extraction only. What I mean is that after a short time of use the can will collect dirt and debris inside along the seam where the rounded top is pressed into the round,flat bottom. You cannot clean the unit as well as the PELA extractor As the PELA can be Fully disassembled. Why that was an issue for me? So, lets say you have been exclusively doing oil changes for a year(which I initially bought my PELA for) but then you need to extract fluids to be reused again. Like, fresh antifreeze out of a cooling system to be reused(I was troubleshooting a faulty thermostat) or fresh Transmission fluid(that was a solenoid/valve body issue). In both those instances I took the PELA extractor apart and after cleaning it was like new inside. I pulled the fluid out fixed the problem and reused the fluid without any contamination. The other issue with the Topsider. 2) This was a very specific problem that I had, and many others won't. I didn't have a lot of room in my repair van and although the Topsider was shorter the footprint was too wide to allow for me to stash it in the corner of the van. And finally, 3) With the PELA extractor I can see exactly how much fluid is being extracted as it comes out so I know how low the fluid had been consumed or lost compared to the correct capacity. This helps when troubleshooting leaks and engine life as evident by consumption.
      With all that said the Topsider will work and does a good job if all you are doing is dirty fluid removal without any chance of reuse with one performance exception, I did occasionally have an issue with the flexible hose collapsing during hot oil extraction. If the problems I mentioned above is not something that will be concerns for you. Then I suggest going with the Topsider. you'll save some cash..thanks for your feedback..:-)
