@@forthehomies7043just the fact he won is impressive enough
bro used all that extra time to reflect on his life and prepare mentally, they probably felt like 10 minutes for him. meanwhile magnus was thinking about dinner

@@rickyjohnson6747 He did pretty much say "that's when you play a whole game with 12 seconds on the clock," which people who like to focus on whether someone "makes excuses" would certainly qualify as an excuse.

I'm pretty sure they "showed solidarity" just because the original poster mentioned a Russian grandmaster Vladimir Fedoseev. It just seems out of place, as if I would shout out "Glory to Russia" In a middle of a conversation about science because someone mentioned an american scientist. That, in my opinion, is quite controverisal and you shouldn't not say something like "Slava Ukraine!“ or "Glory to Russia" unless it is the topic of the conversation.

Magnus is a true competitor. No one who is TRUELY competitive would ever be happy with a free win. A similar thing happened recently in the GSL I believe ( Starcraft 2 tournament) where two extremely good players were playing, Byun and Astrea. Astrea is one of if not the best player from NA, but was definitely the underdog going into the series. In the final game where the series was tied, Byun was in a winning position but it was very VERY close and 100% still opportunities to turn it around, Byun ended up having to tap out because he has very bad wrist problems and his wrists were hurting too bad to play.
This reminds me of that because I had it on good authority that Astrea was extremely disappointed at not being able to play the game out despite being slightly behind. True competitors don't want free wins, they want to play the game at the highest levels.
True competitors are fantastic. In the 1990’s hydroplane boat racing Budweiser had the first turbine engine. PaynPak had the second so was the only competition. PavnPaks tool truck burnt down. Budweiser drove their spare tool truck over and said. Get it back to us at the end of the season.
That’s the type of sports I like to watch. This was a 3 minute version of that. ;()
Yes lad with the Starcraft reference, been following gsl for a while
nobody cares about starcraft 2 buddy 😂

They are both amazing they played the whole game in just 12 seconds each with increment. *applause
The guy he played is also a Super GM
This is what happens when you play fairly and with great skill. Brilliant games where, yes, even the best can lose. This is far more honorable than picking up a free win against his opponent due to time starting early for him.
A true honest competitor. Truly amazing.
Magnus must let the time run, because if he loses, it would be very shameful to him, trying to beat a "dead player" like a coward and still lose. The opponent may also recording a trolling video like giving Magnus the time, in any case, Magnus must set the time for equal amount.

Legend. I love how Magnus will do this. Like the one irl tourney where he was running late and his opponent stalled, Magnus ran down his own clock purposefully.
Also i love how Magnus put all the effort to give his opponent a challenge. Neurons were fireing all cylinders. Kudos.
Good of Magnus to wait, and then when he loses, he blames himself, and points out the draw instead of the whole thing about time. Good on him
You don't get to be the world renowned "Greatest of all time" at something by blaming your losses on not taking cheap unearned wins instead of your actual mistakes that caused your losses
The best people at a competitive game aren't the ones who win all the time, it's the ones who win or lose on even terms. It's called sprtsmanship, and I am really glad that Magnus is a good sport, unlike SOMEONE who complained about SOME award he didn't get. Magnus = GOAT

Magnus looks like knight Lancelot du Lac, but with a goldish helmet.
That game was so good. Respect to you for letting your opponent win so you can easily beat the next guy and play this guy again.
the sportsmanship is unmatched
This reminds me of my games where my opponent misclick blunders his queen, so I just make a random move so he can move it back. Or They misclick their king instead of of castling, so I make random moves while they reposition the rook and king.
I'm basically the same as Magnus essentially.
You know you can offer to revert the move in those cases, except if you're talking about a competitive setting like a tournament

It’s already unfair to be playing against magnus-
Just imagine how rare is this event. Magnus drinks water during the game.
Good on Magnus for the fair play, good guy.
Magnus is a great representative of Europe.
Great to see that we have such an hounorable person as the face of our game.
Crazy mad respect for Magnus. I mean I already respected him, but this just jacked my respect for him quite a lot of notches. Wow.
my guy calculated that magnus gonna mercy him, and won touche
it takes me 12 seconds to remember what colour i am
Magnus will never play in advantageous circumstances. That's for the weaklings. He is the one who gives odds. He is the king.
He caught so much criticism in his early years for caring more about the sport than the intellectual aspects, still grinding in very drawish positions when the opponents get tired and want to go home, turning chess into much more of a physical game than it was ... I remember Anand was really pissed around the time when he took the WC title from him. But he puts fair play first even if he's merciless.
he gave him the time. Lost. And then cried about it. Dude purposedly made it a faster than bullet. If a guy is not on time SMOKE him. Now Magnus was afraid of losing from start, hence his false "fairness". We see it was just a show as soon as he started crying about it after the loss.
@@williamtaittinger4529 when did he cry about it? magnus is the type of person who will get angry from chess but only because he didn't play well enough to win
@@williamtaittinger4529 he clearly stated that their is usually a draw after round 8 so assumed his opponent had gone to get a drink or whatever, then gave him the time back. whether he was upset about losing or not is irrelevant
@@joshhfletchh4841 Magnus is used to show HUGE disrespect for everyone else. In chess there is no bigger disrespect than showing up late. Magnus always does that and doesn't act like he cares. Even for this very game this mf was late. He was not counting the opponent would pull his own trick on his aix. He puts his opponents on this situation to humiliate, nothing more and nothing less. Then, when he lost he IMMEDIATLY started crying about it. Low as phook.
And thus, the Real-Time-Strategy genre was born
- Do you play Rapid or Bullet?
- I play Speed of Light.
and then there's me who would hang my queen on purpose knowing there's no way my opponent can win before he loses on time.
I do the same thing hang stuff on purpose
And I lost with my opponent having 3 secs on the clock a rook and king
This is why he is the best
Speedchess sounds like a variant I would actually wanna play.

First time i ever seen magnus lose
That's class and sportsmanship. Hikaru could learn from this a lot
meanwhile, my opponent declined a takeback after at a queen trade, I accidentally moved the pawn up a square instead of taking back the queen.
My opponent just took my rook after I declined his Queen blunder and moved pawn up to give him room to move away.
Obvious mouse slips I always allow takebacks for, but when someone just misses something and makes a dumb blunder that isn't a mouseslip then I never give takebacks. Recently had a dude that thought for 2 minutes before making a game losing blunder and the guy wants a takeback...
@@softan I know, it's hilarious. Usually it's indian guys who play like that.
But I think it's obvious that if you offer a Queen trade - it was literally in front of the other queen - it's not a blunder if you move your pawn a square up instead of retaking the queen haha
Magnus is so good he doesn't even have to make a move to win. His opponents are too scared to even move a piece

He's probability one of the most fun Super GM.. he played bongcloud in a tournament for the sake of it.
Not saying he isn't a cool guy, but this is more about his own honor than anything. Usually, he is the one who gives "odds" by arriving late. He does not want to be on the other side of that equation, because that would be a loss-loss: either he wins but he had a huge advantage anyway, or he loses and it's extremely humiliating.
they blacked out from seeing your name. recovered just in time to throw the knight in.
Clearly a man who cares more about honoring the competition of the game and playing with integrity over the win. rare to see these days.
Blud's hair is beautiful
This is why you always just roll your opponent no matter the circumstances. Being present at your game is part of the game. If you travel to a tournament and sleep in for round 1 you have no one to blame but yourself just like if you blunder a queen.
