You can also add other fruits and berries to a bourbon smash. Some of my favorites have fig or Raspberries added to it. I also like to dump the drink instead of strain it when I add other fruits. To me it gives it a fun visual and really shows off the “SMASH” part of the drink

    -1oz Bourbon
    -1oz Blue Curaçao
    -1 Pear
    -1/4 tsp Maple Syrup
    -Club Soda
Dice the pear into cubes, leaving aside a vertical slice for presentation. Pour the bourbon and curaçao over the pear cubes, add 1/4 tsp maple syrup, top with club soda and stir. Make a slice half way up the pear slice and place it on the glass

the boulevardier is my favourite drink and you introduced me to it... in a previous video I think? anyway, I make it with twice as much whisky, so 2:1:1 whisky/campari/dollins vermouth and I add some orange bitters to that. The other exception, as you can tell from the spelling, I use Canadian whisky instead of bourbon. Just what I happen to have more of in the house reliably. It just ticks all the boxes for me. My vote for an accessible bourbon drink is a Kentucky Mule. Even though I'm already a big fan of bourbon, I can attest to just how transformative making a Kentucky Mule is. It's so refreshing, palatable, pleasant, and easy to drink. It will certainly hit the spot in a way that straight bourbon just doesn't do on its own, and is worth trying if you've not had one yet! I'd say it's also a summer sipper, just like the Whiskey Smash that's featured in the episode.
Edit: Commented before watching the whole thing, and saw that the Kentucky Buck was here, which sounds like a really yummy dressed up version of the mule. I gotta try that!!

The text in front of the shaker on the table but behind Greg (~7:00) is giving me some Escher vibes... must be one hell of a drink.
    EDIT: OH NO 7:18

Dude, try an Arnold Palmetto, a common drink in the Tampa & Sarasota FL region, for an accessible bourbon drink. Ice tea(not sweet tea) and semi-sweet lemonade in a 50:50 blend. And them add crushed ice and your bourbon. Shake and serve with crushed ice and lemon peel. Just try it. Or just add bourbon to an Arizona can of Arnold Palmer. Lol

Hey Greg has anyone ever told you that you look like Vincent D’inofrio? That segment in your editing room in particular.

Yellowstone is delicious! I tried it because my local liquor store didn't have what I was looking for at the time, but I'm glad I did. I'm definitely getting it again.

I do not know if you noticed it, but when you pour up to surface tension and then continue pouring into the glass, it will flow over and out on the table.

FYI The difference between Club soda and seltzer (ie carbonated water) is salt. Club soda is traditionally supposed to has a dash of salt ( mineral salts) where as seltzer does not. Whether or not that’s still true today I can’t speak to but that was what the difference was back in the 1920’s. Worked for a beer and soda distributor when I was a kid and this is what I was told by the owner.

I’ve toured Limestone Branch’s distillery multiple times now. Love their stuff and what they’re about. Their special bottles are way better than their standard bourbon but that’s true of most bourbon distilleries. I have no doubt that Limestone is only going to get better over time.

Knowing for a fact that there's no green screen behind you - I must say ... the masking around you is pretty impeccable. Is that some sort of plugin? I just actually paid attention to it for the first time today.

I was playing with After Effects Rotobrush 2.0. It’s way more accurate than the old one, but still slow enough that this took me ages to finish.

that buck looked super refreshing. two more that i would suggest are the penicillin and paper plane. intense (possibly acquired) flavors, but not on the whiskey front

The green-screen to put the tasting text behind you was a little bit jarring. Might just be because it was different, but it stood out to me a lot and was a little distracting towards 5:30 when I couldn't read it. Though the other 3 tastings were less distracting and worked well with your natural movement across the set. Great episode regardless :D

For my own word usage seltzer is carbonated mineral water while club soda is just normal carbonated water. The name seltzer comes from the region in germany where there are naturally carbonated mineral water springs. Meanwhile I've never seen club soda with added minerals in.

Bourbon + water + ice is fantastic, basically alcoholic iced tea & you don't get knocked over the head by the 40% alcohol content. So whatever other flavors would work well w tea (mint, masala chai spices, citrus, sugar, maybe even a little maple or vanilla, etc.) should add to that base well

I wish I could've been live tasting audience for this because I'm not a huge whiskey drinker, but I'd like to get into it more and this would've been perfect for me. I will definitely be trying to find me some of this brand and trying these cocktails

That song your grandma used to sing you (“in the 20’s 😂) is called “Nagasaki” and the lyrics are both HILARIOUS and mildly racist/sexist. I first heard a snipit of it in a Doris Day movie (My Dream is Yours, with an excellent hula by Doris in an awesome tiki lounge). I can’t find that version anywhere but there are really great versions available. The version on TH-cam by Ipana Troubadours is particularly good.
“Back in Nagasaki where the fellas chew tobacci and the women wiki-waki-woo”
