Ian Pooley mixes from 1997-2002 are simply put ....magical. Not saying that any of his recent mixes are less spirited, it's just that the house music coming out during this era was sublime imo.
+Ambroise Bellec I can't get into the newer house music from 2010 and beyond. Something about it that turns me off. It's too aggressive and digital sounding if that makes any sense. Even though they are all digital as well, the equipment and keyboards of the 80's/late 90's had a tadbit more of an organic feel thus giving it more of a groove funk sound.
Taped this back in the day and had it playing in the car on a loop for months. Never tired of it. Bought both of his albums but neither really measured up to this. That track that comes in on 33 was such a favourite that really elevated the set. Next 2 or 3 tracks after that were just as good.
I played his records a lot during the late 90's to the mid naughties. In UK underground clubs and parties. His understanding of music, tempo and atmosphere in the genre of music called House is second to none. He, in my opinion, is one of the best house producers and remixers of all time. Kids go digging.
Brilliant mix, that 90's vibe! Another point, this was done on vinyl kids! I am sure of it, due to dynamic range and sight lag when he pushes the platter to catch-up with the other track he's mixing. I was out tonight dancing to a DJ using CD decks which quantized automatically...what nonsense. I used vinyl myself, nothing like it. Took real skill and craft to handle vinyl, to learn the amount of force required, the lightness of touch. I swear it was better back then, all a but more underground before social media came along!
bodhid yes, exactly. watching someone who was any good at mixing vinyl up close was almost taken for granted back then. "golden era" is how you can describe it. nothing being taken away from some of the talented people today who sometimes mix vinyl, but the sound was different and the flavors of house were different as well.

thanx for the tracklist. And thanx for the upload. The style which I liked to hear back in the day. 19 = correct, but claude young rmx 1:08:00 23 = jeff mills - ride the rythm 1:24:10
Well, you got a point there, however audio rec. back in 1998 might well be a cassette. I happen to have similar pooley recording...will ask someone under 18 soon to help me out.
DrBenman haha! nah, many if us missed some artists and only discovered them after music sharing online became a thing. I hadn't heard of Ian Poorly until 'since then' in 2000. there was no TH-cam or digital file sharing. guys would put out tapes, not CDs but tapes! you either saw the Dj live to know about the music or you heard the tape someone else picked up. growing up near Chicago, and coming of age in the Midwestern late 90's rave scene, you were exposed to who you saw live or other people introduced to you.
Count yourself lucky. Even with the amount of availability on the internet a majority never discover the great stuff and still spend $100s on crap like Tiesto.
can someone help me with the track at 18:00 - 19:00? tracklist says "05 Soul Only - Step & Repeat [Tronisole]" but I can't find the exact version anywhere........... need this track!

I liked him much better when he was Detroit influenced. Still awesome though.
Phoenix Le well said
The transition between Peace Division and DJ Sneak is absolute magic

i,ve been at parties all my life. forrr some reason I always come back to this MIX at the end of the night....

Sergio Mercado Yeah...it was vinyl all of it.
Mixing with vinyl would be coming back ... but it never went away!
If you can't handle Vinyl don't call yourself a DJ. Period.
Love this intro tune good beat and vibe, music today needs to learn from this kind of stuff I'm sure you all will agree..
