I've always said that heaven for me would be living in one of these old source community maps, doesn't matter if it's CS, TF2, or Gmod. The vibe they give off just makes me feel at home and at peace.
It's a feeling you can't describe... like being back in your childhood room, on the edge of your bed, completely lost in a digital world. Thank you for unlocking these golden memories.
Played CS religiously starting in high school from Beta 7.1 2000. Parents lived out of town and I was stuck with 56K dial up until I moved out in 2009. I got good at playing on dial-up and would regularly get kicked and banned, it was definitely a running joke with my friends. Had my rotation of regular servers and chatted with many of the same people for years. Had the pleasure of meeting many local people as well. Most of us have parted ways, found our own path in life, started working, having families, etc. You don't realize in the moment how much of an impact something as small as a video game could make. Sometimes I boot up 1.6 now and then, mess around on a populated server but also find an empty one and just wander around. It's such a mix of emotions remembering the good old days and also seeing so many empty servers with nobody there playing in them.
That was me back in the day of Battlefield 3. It made me laugh every time I got kicked for being at the top of the leaderboard. There wasn't much else to do after school since my parents were split, working their own jobs, gas was 5 bucks a gallon, and all the friends I did have lived on the other side of the county, and many of them were in the same situation. Playing online games was the only way we could do things together. Now I think the peak population is 300-600 people a day, but thankfully the Venice Unleashed server mod allows for PvE bot play. Still, it's not the same.
I still vividly remember sitting down for the first time on my pc when i was 6 1/2 years old playing cs 1.6 on my older brother's PC. He was teaching me the controls on fy_pool_day. Few years later I found out about Unreal Tournament 1999. CS and UT99 were my absolute favourite games. the dnb and jungle OST of UT99 stuck with me for a long time, and so did the genuine and friendly maps and communities of CS. now, after experiencing both the ups and downs of life, here i am, at 23 years old, just came home from work, reminiscing about the good old days when i didn't give a single damn about anything and my life consisted of going to school and playing CS. It was a truly different time back then. I still miss it, but im definitely proud of experiencing it because we can't go back in time. That's what made it special. while i'm just stuck in waiting mode, waiting for my friends to come home from work so we could go to the gym, i saw this in my feed because i'm subscribed to you and because i had given a like to your fy_hotel & fy_swimming_pool mixes. You bet your sweet ass im slapping this on them earbuds during my workout session. Thank you for the nostalgia, I hope you have a nice day my friend.
nice story bro. i had most of my 20s playing CS and grinding on entrepreneurial stuff, now im in 30s and life is weirdly back to simpler times, I'm grateful to not have accidentally had a kid or something cus I can chill and play cs with 0 worries if I want to now the hard work is done. When I was younger I remember loading up CS1.6 portable version on a USB stick and bringing it in, waiting for any IT lessons with substitute teacher. We basically passed the USB stick round and copied the files, before I knew it half our accounting lesson was playing 4v4 on fy_snow. great memories, different times as u say^^
@@eightbo 32 m here. Same as you, played Cs 1.6 when we had IT lessons. No kids either. I lived my 20s partying and doing drugs lol. Now I work some random jobs here and there and most of the guys I went to school with started to work programming, then bought houses, cars and here I am listening to this DnB telling some random dude a story.
Dude reading this almost made me cry. I never played CS back in the day (I didn't get into multiplayer games until I was like 10 with TF2, maybe a little earlier than that with Classic minecraft), but I'm the same age as you and currently working as a software engineer. The vibe that this kind of music and these kinds of graphics gives me just brings me back so strongly to my first days using the computer when I was like 6 on Windows ME/XP and trying to figure out how to load different CDs of 2D games from the 90s, having no idea what I was doing and just trying my best to figure it out.. Now I have a computer that could render a Pixar movie from back then and my education has taught me how every step of the way works from logic gates on silicon to the no-code Gen AI solutions that modern devs use to create textures, rigging, and animations. Part of me really misses the magic that I felt back then not knowing how anything worked and just being amazed by the fact that the little tan box could make things like this possible. Software was also so much more free and open back then. Sure it was like the wild west with way more ransomware and viruses than I see today, but at least it was feasible for someone to modify their own Windows environment without having the resources of a major corporation behind them. What I wouldn't give to be able to time travel and spend a day in 2006 with what I know now...
Уютная картинка. Напоминает время когда зимой мне принесли диск с CS бета версиями. Похоже все хорошее так и будет ассоциироваться с градиентным минимализмом грубых форм.
Do you guys actually use decks to mix tho? A lot of it sounds computer generated with fairly poor mixing transitions. I enjoy the mixes for the selection, I'm just genuinely curious
havent played cs in over a decade, havent listened to dnb in about as long but the youtube algorithm seemed to think I needed this in my life today. i kind of agree. dope shit dude.
So one of my long term goals, 10 to 20 years out is to create “low poly glasses”. It sounds silly, useless and might be impossible. But I would love to put on a pair of glasses to make corners sharper and turn colours into low poly textures. Might be a mix of ai object recognition not sure but we may have that tech in the near future. Yeah super niche and I just wanted to share.
I cannot thank you enough for posting these. DnB is one of the few genres I can listen to and be at inner equilibrium so I can get shit done. Long live DnB, may the horizon only get bigger.
This kind of music really soothes my very chaotic brain, as if all my synapses took place in a very well ordered manner. Helps me a lot with focus and momentum. Today i consider myself a new DnB/Jungle fan
I'll never not cherish the memories of chilling on 1.6 and Source servers with voicechat. It was some of the best banter and entertainment I've ever had.
aint goin nowhere brother, havent mixed since the pandemic myself and each upload you do brings me some sort of creative push. keep it up man, this may be your best work yet
YES YES YES more source ambient PLS, always i've heard intelligent/jungle i think of surf maps that felt so spacy and liminal, and not just maps but the whole HL and Portal saga, just sublime atmospheric stuff from Valve
I listened to this while studying and couldn't have chosen a better mix, except me stopping to see each song playing to add to my playlist. It intertwined with my studying so well. I felt fully engaged not just in my school work, but in the mix as well. Keep up the good work! :)
What a picture the title and image in tandem paint even before the tunes play. I hope I'm finding a new aesthetic rabbit hole here, as with the pairing of jazz mixes to imagery of vintage auto racing.
Elysian Fields is a favorite of mine that I hadn’t heard in forever. Was pleasantly surprised to hear it again. Everything else in the mix is great too!
Great idea with the frenzy map but the lush resort setting. Stella mixing skills to be respected. Btw Shining in the Darkness is one of the best jungle tracks ever
Bro I listen to these mixes all the time, I love the dnb and the source engine aesthetic and would massively appreciate if you could make some wallpapers, they look amazing!!
really nice visuals, reminds me of the old Unreal Tournament levels kind of vibe of colour mood edit: where's the picture from? be cool to know who the artist or programmer is.. really nice vibe to the tunes the way your selection is building is really nice.. thanks for doing this and posting it for us.. i hope you have a good one

I get you, but they are also really off putting.. They are the pinnacle of liminal spaces
love those liminal space vibes, they really give off an unique feeling! thanks for listening mate 👊
So damn true, i remember that strange feeling when joining an empty map, i was feeling so lonely but stayin to discover the map and messin around ...
Holy shit I was just saying the exact same shit to my friend last week.
I think for me it would be being on an endless surf map, just watching the world pass by

What good musical taste... Good themes and backgrounds that seem crazy to me. I really love these types of mixes
I play this mix like everyday, it's kind of mantra for me to just enter into another space, to have a breath and keep going on
