Cirklon is definitely nice but these days I think the sqaurp hapax has it beat. I never tried a cirklon though. Probably holds it value very well though.
Cirklon has dedicated encoders for every step, large display and 5 pair of midi in/out - this alone makes it way more convenient to use than other sequencers on the market. On Digitakt there’s no way to see what note on what step without holding the step button. M8 is really powerful as a sequencer, but there’s only one physical midi port. Torso T-1 is fun, but has totally different workflow based on algorithms. Cirklon doesn't have MPE and a lot of other features you'd think would be there, so there’s that. Hapax looks cool, but working with the Ableton Push style grid is not my cup of tea. There’s so many devices to choose from so hopefully everyone can find something for themselves. But there are devices that you constantly coming back to, and Cirklon (at least for me) is one of them.
@@advanced-research yeah I disagree. I’d rather have 128 pads then the 16 encoders personally also hapax has pretty much the same midi io when you count the usb io. I’d love to try a cirklon to compare but not waiting three years and it seems pricey. Hapax can also play two projects at the same time. Have you checked one out? It’s very very good.
@voodoohex72 It’s possible to get Cirklon v1 on a used market for something around 1700-1800 eur, which still is not cheap but better than wait 3 years and pay 2000 eur plus VAT. As for Hapax, I haven’t tried it yet, only had experience with Pyramid. What’s the appeal of having so many pads in a sequencer for you? Playing it like a keyboard?
@@advanced-research yes that’s one thing and getting drum patterns going very fast(you are doing 8 tracks at once.) as well as visual feedback, selecting things very quickly etc. Real-time recording of notes and drums etc. Triggering patterns muting soloing etc. Honestly there is a big list once you see the power first hand. I can’t imagine the cirklon having half the ui experience of the hapax tbh. I had a pyramid too and hapax is way way better. Pyramid was great too though.
If I want to control, say 16 tracks on the Digitakt, would I create an instrument for each track, labelled "Drums", with a dedicated channel? Or would I create a single instrument then have each track between the Cirklon and Digitakt mapped to the same channel?
Drums are easily mapped as they all have their own dedicated channel. You only have to have one instrument on Cirklon. Different channels for each drum sound though.
As far as I know Digitakt doesn't allow to control all its tracks with single MIDI channel. You can use "Auto" channel in Digitakt MIDI config but it would control only active track. To control all Digitakt tracks with Cirklon separately, you would have to create an instrument called “Digitakt” with “multi” option on. Then you would add multiple instances of that instrument on different Cirklon tracks, each with its own MIDI channel, like 1, 2, 3 and so on. There's probably not a lot of benefits to do that, since you would lose the ability to use parameter locks (CC aux rows is not exactly the same). I usually just sync Digitakt with clock and start/stop messages from Cirklon, it's easier this way.
@@advanced-research digitakt allows to control all its track with a single midi channel! I know because I did that with my vector (the cirklon baby brother)
All analog equipment goes into patchbay, from patchbay to the mixing desk. Effects are on send/return of the mixing desk. It’s pretty standard setup. Non-standard thing is that I also route digital signals from audio interface to the console but with the help of custom built switcher - you put DB25 cables A and B and decide which signal goes in (digital or analog) per channel basis. So you can have channels 1-4 on mixing desk coming from the DAW and 5-8 from analog synths. I hope that explains everything. Cheers
Would take them a decade to reverse engineer the OS and it would be laggy and jittery. RDJ said the Cirklon's timing is "tighter than a gnats vag" and that says it all.
Thats an absolutely horrible thing to say. They wouldnt dare.would they? Its not even a price thing, you just cant get them. You got me. Id get a birklon. I am sooo ashamed.
@@JustDatBoi The tightness/stability of the timing between events. Computer MIDI and sync is jittery over USB, but perhaps not if all-in-the-box. It also has some latency. Most people wouldn't be able to hear or care, but the real heads do. If Behringer made a Cirklon copy it wouldn't be anywhere near the "best in the world" of Cirklon in this particular regard. But that's what you will always get with a cheap mass produced copy, compared to a lovingly crafted work of art, by a genius lone creator.

@voodoohex72 thanks for sharing
This thing is nuts. I dont think Ive ever come across it before. How long has it been around? It looks retro and modern at the same time.
I believe the first version of Cirklon was released in 2010
Nice jam
What is this computer keyboard you’re using? I love it! ❤
It’s Vortex M0110. Cheers!
@@advanced-research thank you so much!!!!
how do you route the entire setup including synths, drum machines, mixer and effects?
All analog equipment goes into patchbay, from patchbay to the mixing desk. Effects are on send/return of the mixing desk. It’s pretty standard setup. Non-standard thing is that I also route digital signals from audio interface to the console but with the help of custom built switcher - you put DB25 cables A and B and decide which signal goes in (digital or analog) per channel basis. So you can have channels 1-4 on mixing desk coming from the DAW and 5-8 from analog synths. I hope that explains everything. Cheers
@@advanced-research thanks! it would be great if you showed your setup on a video one day

I think the cirklon would be a perfect candidate for berhinger to make. it would be cheaper and readily available. Awesome video!
@@alaeifRtiming regarding recording live?
I don’t see how the timing of the Cirklon would be any different than a modern day computer running a DAW
