    Excellent video per usual! Thanks for sharing. Also, the Range Test Mapping Tool appears to be super useful, looking forward to trying that out.

    I just bought a bunch for stocking stuffers for family and friends. I will have to include QR codes to videos on this channel to set them up haha.

      Nice! We'll be doing a short video series for new users who don't want to take a deep dive.

    Any chance you could share the map with a reference grid to get an idea of the distances?

    • @The_Comms_Channel
      @The_Comms_Channel  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      This was just a test around town, so a couple miles or so. l Didn't go too far out as I was mostly just comparing it to the WisMesh Pocket. Range will depend heavily on terrain. I can probably edit the GPS coordinates and show with a map in the next video to give a better idea.

    This seems like the perfect "distribite to friends and family" kind of device but I can't find an answer for the expected battery life.

      Sweet!
      The other models (T1000-A and T1000-B) don't come with Meshtastic and are devices for Helium - The B model just doesn't have Temp and Light sensors on it.

    Previous seeed studio trackers interfaced with a proprietary app and required a $1/month cloud plan. Are they committing to keep this E version open without any support plans or registration required?
    I get days of usage for the Pocket which has a 4x larger battery. Are you really expecting more than a day per charge for this tracker?

    • @The_Comms_Channel
      @The_Comms_Channel  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      I'm not familiar with the previous seeed studio trackers, but this one is running Meshtastic firmware which has no way for them to require a monthly fee

    hey there, nice channel. I have a question that is unrelated to the topic of this video (sorry). Do you know if two meshtastic meshes (lets say covertly set up nets of solar powered nodes like on your channel) can be bridged together by using a pair of unlicensed 5ghz point to point dishes and two gateway nodes? This way we could make a longer range mesh of smaller short range meshtastic meshes. Curious about your thoughts and if anyone did this before

    • @The_Comms_Channel
      @The_Comms_Channel  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thanks! No worries, happy to answer. This could be done. There would need to be something like a raspberry pi to handle the bridging with MQTT or custom software, but it should be doable.

    Question for the WisMesh Pocket how did you get the CSV? In my range test settings it states that it is only available for ESP32 devices with a web server. I think I am missing something.

    • @The_Comms_Channel
      @The_Comms_Channel  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I'll be covering the whole process in a video soon, but ESP32 are the only devices that can save the csv to the device, which is what that message is about. You can ignore that. The app itself has an Export rangetest.csv option that works for any device. It's in the 3dot menu on the top left in android.

    How many days does the battery really last? My heltec v3 with a 4000mah battery last about 29 hours

    • @The_Comms_Channel
      @The_Comms_Channel  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I'll do a battery test for a few days and let you know. The Heltec V3 uses an ESP32 microcontroller which is a battery hog. For comparison, a RAK WisBlock, which also uses a NRF52 microcontroller like this new device, lasts for about a week on a single 18650 battery.

    • @mikejones5979

      I use a rak that is nrf based and 1100mah battery that lasts 4-5 days. That is with the heartbeat set to 30 seconds on LongFast

    • @The_Comms_Channel

      NRF is the way to go for low power consumption!

    • @TerraMagnus
      @TerraMagnus 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@mikejones5979can confirm. My nRF node would probably go 10+ days on 2,000mAh if I let it go that long without a recharge. Longest I’ve gone was 8 days but it still had close to half its capacity remaining.

    • @The_Comms_Channel
      @The_Comms_Channel  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      My goal was more to just follow the same route with the WisMesh pocket and T1000-E and compare the signal readings between the two rather than a range test. What I can do on the next video is do more of a range test and change the GPS coordinates after so it can be shown on a map for a better idea.
