Another great video, Bino! Any chance sometime down the line you could go over saddles? As in, what all the loops and such are best used for? I'm sure some things are better than others for their uses. Thanks again, Bill
Thanks for these videos! They've been invaluable reference material for me as I recently began my first job in tree work. I am curious were the 5 times the rope diameter rule comes from?
Thank you, I'm not sure of the exact source where the rule comes from. It's from the group of ISA Arborists evaluators that I see on certification exams for the last 20 years as we meet and work with each other we share information.
Thanks Bino! I am going to take the skills part of the certified tree climber exam in February. Can you use a split tail with a blakes as part of your climbing system, and do you get to decide this as part of the exam?
Yes you can. If you have a spliced I you should have the safety information on it. Also if you have a small spliced I you make sure you carabiner does not side load. If you have a large eye you'll want to girth hitch it to your hardware. A split tail with a termination knot will also work.
Someone, knotorious, claims this is a poachers knot, and the term "double fisherman's bend" is incorrect terminology. Of course if lots of people use incorrect terminology enough, then it's no longer wrong. As long as we know what we mean I guess it doesn't matter as much as other things, but it will set the puritans off a bit.
I believe the Poachers and the Scaffold and Double Fisherman's are one in the same. In tree care we use double Fisherman's. It's documented in tree care books ISA knots also Tree climbers Companion. Tree care people use Double fisherman's or Triple fisherman's. True it relates to the trade that you're you'll know what is being said.
Like others said, well presented and to the point. Your videos make me unsure which use all the time! That Makes these so good for me and other noobs! Appreciated and Merry Christmas to you and yours!

Thought for all these years that a double fishermans bend was tying two lines , cords or ropes together.......am I going crazy ?
Yes it can be you use two double Fisherman's to tie a loop. I can also be called a Grapevine Knot.
