I learned the prusik for the Texas rope trick and used it ever since, even in camping. Prusik's versatility is insane.

so I ascended the swing with a prusik for the first time yesterday... omg every thing hurts, my arms, legs stomach, literally everything hurts... but it was great
So ready to learn and use these knots. I would think, choosing the correct knott or hitch depends on the rope being used.
i use a Mammut 13mm Wide, Flat Sling, For a prusik... Never had an issue yet using a flat style sling.. Mind you, I only do Tree work and use it as a safety while walking up with spurs on.

But in reality if prusik (let's say klemheist prusik) can be used for fall arrest / lead climb situation ?
Does it have any performance difference in the setting of dynamic ropes vs static ropes ?

These are also great for securing closed cardboard boxes for storing things like Christmas trees that are hard to put back in the box, as long as whatever kind of cord you're using is durable and the box doesn't get too badly damaged.
Get one or more anchor lines (depending on exact proportions of the box you'll be securing) using bowline knots, then get a much longer loop (enough to run along the sides and top and bottom of the box wile making prusik knots at each anchor point) via the double fisherman's and centering it on one end, affix it with a prusik knot on each anchor line on either side of the box and at the first meeting point you pass one half over and the other under, and twist them so that the two ends run opposite each other along the top and bottom; continue making more prusik knots at each anchor point. The only thing I forget is how the two ends of the loop are secured in the final step.

Will this knot hold on to a poly rope included in a generic pulley system? I'm having a hard time pulling the slippery rope by hand and thought this would be safer than looping around my hand.
only one way to find out! There are other types of prussik knots you can test out too if that one doesn't work for you.

What are everyone's thoughts about simply wrapping the main climbing rope with the static material and clipping into it as opposed to wrapping it through the center of itself? I've done it both ways and they both seem to function similarly but the method in the video is a little harder to dress.
It seems like you're describing an autoblock or French prusik. It's also a valid friction hitch, but it has substantially less holding power than a standard prusik. Climbers typically use the autoblock to back up a rappel, as it releases under load and can catch a slip and then be released without unweighting the system. However, the autoblock will slip under higher loads, while the prusik will not.
I'd trust a standard prusik to hold my entire weight if I'm ascending a rope. I'd trust the autoblock to hold the brake strand down and hold the fairly small forces after the friction of my rappel device.
Any advice for when your prusik gets overtightened and won't release?
I usually just get it slacked (not under tension) then move push the loop or push the working end in the loops. If the prussic is done cleanly it loosens easier. May want to try a larger diameter prussic too.
You use the vertical bar and your thumb to break or tighten the prusik.

If you had to could you self belay with a prusik?
Andrew Anderson yeah but the key word there is “if you had to.” You would need two Prusiks and be constantly tending to them. It would probably be easier in most situations to just use them as rope ascenders.

what is that knot used for?
Its principal use is allowing a rope to be climbed - ascending or "Prusiking". Two Prusik loops are alternately slid up the static rope: a long Prusik loop reaches the climber's foot - to allow leg power for ascending, and a second short Prusik loop is attached to the harness - to allow sitting. In rescue work, if a climber has to be pulled up, a Prusik loop can hold a pulley block purchase system on a climbing rope.

Hey no offense meant here and I know that semantics aren’t that important, but........the prusik is a hitch, not a knot. Girth Hitch, Clove Hitch, etc sounds funny if called a knot. Likewise Water hitch is inaccurate and sounds funny. I dig this channel though and find the content to be bomber.
