I live in HK and I always ride the MTR . It is very efficient and I think the trains are cool,that's why I'm a MTR fan that rides the MTR for no reason for 3 hours straight all the time😅

This is a 13% increase in capacity, as MTR files state that if there are 4 people in 1 sq meter of a train then the rush hour usage is already 94%. Do the math: 3 min per train=20 trains per hour 2 min per train = 30 trains per hour 12 car train at 3 min freq = 12 x 20 = 240 carriages of trains 9 car train at 2 min freq = 9 x 30 = 270 carriages of trains

@@youwu__ Not an R train hater unlike 90% of HK railfans, but I would say I'm still not confident if the increased frequency will compensate for the shorter trains well enough. My only bet right now is that it seems like the MTR will adjust some boarding positions for trains once all the MLRs have retired, which puts less burden on the southmost car of the R trains. Currently pretty much only Car 1 southbound (car 9 northbound) is packed while the other cars are a lot emptier which has made passengers hate the R trains, but this is not to do with the train length but the riding habits. Only time will tell I guess
have u tried long stairs in Ho Man Tin Station? You need about 10 mins walk from the platform to the exit A3! Hope you can take a video of that :p Apart from that, buses in Hong Kong are also amazing, especially those routes running on the steep hills with narrow roads!

In Hong Kong, all of the MTR lines(except LightRail) is running with full ATO. Disneyland Resort line and South Island line is fully-automated. It’s nice to see the automatic developments of both systems!
Unfortunately using only the railway, you can't visit our "secret backyard garden" Sai Kung :( It has a breathtaking view. Oh and be sure to ride on the KMB route 94 bus once you were actually there! My favourite bus route by far!
Note that not all of MTR’s lines are metro / rapid transit. The East and West Rail Lines plus The Tung Chung Line are technically commuter rail than rapid transit. The Disneyland Resort Line is technically a shuttle.
It is closer to metro when you compare them to actual commuter rail, especially the frequency and capacity (measured in passengers per hour per direction)
The older trains (the ones on Island, Tsuen Wan, and Kahn Tong line) use DC propulsion. These trains are being phased out in the next few years. The other newer trains use AC propulsion, but they use different inverter systems and therefore have slightly different but similar sounds.
They do span 3+ decades of propulsion technology. The oldest trains (the plain white ones) date back to the 1970s, although they did receive propulsion upgrades in their mid-life update.
superchan7 the oldest were built in 1979. I can’t find information on what control type they previously used, but they were replaced with chopper DC control. All the newer trains use AC VVVF
