On warzone if you have a weak AMD CPU compared to your AMD GPU, you will lose performance. SAM actually eats up CPU performance to provide more GPU performance. This will make a CPU bottleneck. My 5700X3D + RX 7800XT performs better with SAM off. CPU time with sam off is 4-5ms; SAM on 5-6ms. GPU time is running at 4-5ms
Also in MW3 Zombies if you have SAM On, when you look at the middle of the map (Old Town) fps drastically decreases. SAM Off solves that. (Thanks to BeefyTech channel video)
Does anybody know how to disable SAM for specific game (warzone) because when i go in tuning and global u can disable SAM, , but when u have more games added for different underclocks etc... there is no option for SAM ... Thanks

I found that when I forced reBAR on my 3080 wirh a Ryzen 7 5800x3D (2k res target), I could get some massive uplifts. The two games that come to mind were 'The Ascent' and 'Shadow of the Tomb Raider'. I used the Nvidia Inspect tool to force it on unsupported games. But I havent owned that card for more than a year, so I cant remember what other games off the top of my head.
Cool vid and usefull as I have a retro system (Intel + nVidia) but the GPU still uses current drivers and recommends I enable r-bar but the motherboard doesn`t support this and after watching this video I don`t think I`ll worry about it as I was going to do my own testing which yes it seems the issue is more complicated than I realised. 👍
Wonderful video. My pc is an all AMD machine. I have it enabled in bios and just go from there. So as if it's helping any I couldn't say but knowing I have it on and somesoftware will take advantage of it is fine with me.
The whole ReBAR topic became a thing when Intel released ARC gpu’s. And when comparing Intel’s own statement for ARC and this video it is clear the factor of influence is how the GPU and its drivers are made and less about what CPU your system has. It would be nice if Intel or Amd or nVidia would explain the reason why there can be a difference and why sometimes not. I am sure there are engineers out there that can explain it. But i guess the suits of those companies forbid them to explain it in public.
I assume ATS/ETS2 are not supported, even though they just updated their game engine? I mostly play ATS on my 2700x/16GB/GTX 1080ti and lately fps has been getting worst with each game version update to their game engine.
I think this testing might be more beneficial on systems that are not running games in the hundreds of fps already. Would be interesting to see this on zen 2 with GTX cards / Amd 5xxx or 6xxx cards Going from 40 fps to 50 fps could make a game playable that otherwise is borderline. For instance Control has big differences when upping the graphics and there could be a huge benefit there.
I wouldn't expect the percentage differences to be much different on less powerful hardware, so in other words you likely wont be going from 40 to 50FPS (thats a 25% increase) using ReBAR but I didn't explicitly test this
@@TechGuides possibly not, but the Ryzen 3600 was the most purchased CPU so doing testing on that for instance would probably garner a decent amount of views.
Just a quick thing i discovered today after finally upgrading to a Ryzen 5000 series CPU that supports re-BAR. I needed to also flash my RTX 3080 to latest VBios to get re-BAR support. My RTX 3080 was an older model and i never updated its VBios and was wondering why re-BAR could not be enabled.
What about the "Core Isolation" option from Windows defenden in Windows 11? I've heard it's costing people 50 FPS on average if they turn it on. (Memory integrity)
If you have an Nvidia 8GB Vram card, enabling reBar might actually lower your fps since it consistently uses 600MB more Vram at least in Cyberpunk compared to just off, even though there's virtually no performance improvement. However in Vram constraint scenarios it will potentially lower overall fps. So yeah definitely keep it off like you said.
@@TechGuides Why, though? The other mixed system isn't the same as either the intel + nvidia combo nor the amd + amd system, so why would this one be? It's also, as that poster mentions, a *very* common combo. Surprising that you didn't test it.
In this testing did you just enable default rebar in Nvidia control panel or did you manually go into profile inspect and enable rebar globally for all games? Nvidia has the option to force rebar for all games regardless, you just need to use the profile inspector to set it as on in the global profile.
Via bios. I didnt feel like enforcing it via the inspector would be great but given the fact none of the games I tested actually support rebar on Nvidia I probably should have.. ah well
While I didn't explicitly test it, I doubt it makes sense because ReBAR is not supported by the Nvidia driver on any current game. One can force it using the Nvidia Inspector but I haven't tried this. Maybe something for an upcoming video :)
No time and due to the lack of driver support for ReBar by Nvidia also probably not much different to my Intel & Nvidia results (but I didn't test it, sorry)
With the Nvidia system you need to use inspector to enable it in not official supported games. Especially mw3, enable in bios, game config and inspector, redo shaders. Did you do this? Also you should test warzone not the in game benchmark. Measure 0.1% lows you will see the game runs horribly on any system with rebar on. Even though it boosts fps in a gpu bound situation. 0.1% lows are much more important. With the amd system disabling in the driver doesn't work it needs to be done via bios.
Thanks a lot for watching man! Ah I see, so my results for MW3 on the Nvidia GPU are identical because MW3 not officially supported 🤦♂️ I didn't force ReBAR using the inspector and I also didn't benchmark in Warzone. Guess I will have to specifically test in Warzone on my all-AMD system to observe the 1% low issue. Frankly, I don't think forcing ReBAR using the inspector makes sense...
Should have tried forcing it on via Nvidia Inspector, in titles that natively don't support it-- more specifically in games that are RAM/VRAM heavy, Think Microsoft Flight Simulator, XPLANE, F1 racing, and Digital Combat Simulator (DCS). These games are all generally pretty RAM/VRAM heavy, especially at higher resolutions/in VR

SAM does some extra things on top of changing the BAR size. It's been too long so I don't remember anymore but SAM was always a bigger performance improvement than Nvidia's solution. I believe it was also less likely to decrease performance as well but I could be making that up.
I really never thought that SAM could be affecting my sistem like that, I have an i3 10100F with an RX 6700XT (I know about the bottle neck), and I will make tests to see if the performance reduction is there for me too
Game feels smoother with SAM disabled in the Adrenalin software, but when running benchmarks on MW2 multiplayer results are very similar, SAM off gave 5fps more, which is within the margin of error so I guess I'll leave it off
When I first heard of ReBAR, it sounded an awful lot like when you could plug in a hefty USB drive to offload some of the system RAM activity to it to 'speed up your main processor'. Going from one speed memory to another which, while larger in volume, moves at half the speed of native or far less, will not result in speeding up much of anything. Gaming I equally suspect, it will depend a lot more on both how much system RAM you have and at what speed it runs. If you have a large volume of system RAM but it's lower end DDR4, and a GPU with plenty of DDR6, there won't be much improvement (my working theory going into the next part). So recently I went from a 5900x with a 3070 to same CPU to a 7900XT. Granted the GPU more than doubling VRAM along with the better processing power made a world of difference, but as my main rig is still fairly old now, having reBAR on in the few games I played actually decreased FPS by about 20-30, title dependant.
Really good but your mixed scenario should include both sides not just intel with amd gpu but also amd with nvidia, this four scenarios would concrete the best use case for users that have the amd cpu and nvidia gpu.

I had no more time but because of the lack of driver support for ReBar by Nvidia I wouldn't expect results to be much different from Intel & Nvidia. But I could do a quick test and maybe post a short. I doubt results will vary much tbh
Long time no see....if it no problem for you could you make new OBS studio tutorial for streamimg with Nvidia card AV1 codec for fast FPS games and slow ones ? Tx
Well let me just say I have the 7950X3D paired with RX7900XTX on ddr5 system memory of 32gb using resizeable bar and I must say ALL my game performance is phenomenal! The intent of that build is to blow away any and all future playstations! Yes I put alot of money into it but with all I can do with this amount of power is ridiculous! Although my setup is major OVERKILL but I wanted to blow the competition out the water!
@@TechGuides i mean amazing performance and have no problems smooth powerful gaming performance! What i don't understand is those who game why do they feel the need to buy a 4090, but sleep on that 7900XTX
Thats odd... There is another way to check if rebar is enabled: www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/l5jijg/comment/gkvfpy2/? check if it says "large memory range" in your GPU resource tab in the device manager. Still, I would probably try to re-install your GPU drivers
Strange it doesn’t show that Warzone has a rebar but when you go into the Warzone documents and open it with notepad and scroll down you will see rebar true meaning it is activated.
It only works (natively) on AMD GPUs. On Nvidia you can force it using the Nvidia Inspector tool but I would highly recommend not to. It tanks 1% lows...
@Game Guides 10900k DDR4-4400 & 7900XTX MW3, low settings, Game Benchmark At any resolution, with Rebar On, my cpu 1% lows and overall 1% lows drop all they way down to 130fps. With Rebar Off the 1% lows on cpu and thus overall 1% lows jump to 240 +fps. Rebar Off seems like the way to go for my system.
Thats because you have an Intel CPU had you bought the 7800X 3D you would of received more gains from your 7900XTX since SAM allows the CPU full access to the GPU memory not just 256MB
why i have a problem whit i9-13980HX and RTX 4080 whe i use re-bar i have very big fps drops and dont know where can be the problem laptop is rog scar 16 whit rebar on fps drops for cpu to 130fps when re-bar off fps drops are to 230 fps
IRL scenario: so your saying if i have 32"2k monitor, a 3080ti, a b450m and a 3800x... and play cyberpunk, i should definitely update my bios and firmware and unlock this feature my current MB bios doesnt offer haha??? yes?
What would be a good settings to play with i have a lot of input lag on warzone? I play 1440p with my 3070ti which is 100% bottleneck. I lowered the vram to 50 with low settings but i still feel a delay. V sync is off.
None of these games are officially supported by Nvidia. Slapping on an AMD CPU isnt gonna change that I dont see how performance should be better just because the system is AMD based...
I had no more time but because of the lack of driver support for ReBar by Nvidia I wouldn't expect results to be much different from Intel & Nvidia (but I didn't test it, sorry)
I expected it to perform similar to my Intel & Nvidia system and since Nvidia literally didn't support a single game that I tested officially its probably not that relevant anyways
What about using an AMD CPU with an Nvidia GPU? Wouldn't it be the best option? Since AMD CPUs greatly benefit from it, and Nvidia GPUs enable or disable it on each game
I had no more time but because of the lack of driver support for ReBar by Nvidia I wouldn't expect results to be much different from Intel & Nvidia (but I didn't test it, sorry)
@@TechGuides There is a 3rd party app that forces ReBar for Nvidia (as in, it sets to "true" the ReBar for non whitelisted games in the Nvidia driver) the reason for my request is that the results you've shown seems to point to AMD CPUs benefiting more than the actual GPUs, since rebar with Intel CPUs and AMD GPUs didn't show as good of a result. One game I specially noted myself was Wreckfest on my rig, I would get around 30% to 40% improvement by using ReBar/SAM (R7 5700G + RX 6600)
To my understanding L3 cache on CPU and GPU are very important for rebar/sam to work properly to boost performance. Your benchmark results are expected. i9 13900k doesn't have L3 cache, rtx 4080 doesn't have L3 cache. This is why I love AMD hardware because they have big L3 caches that is beneficial for gaming.
@@TechGuides yeah I know that too. But what I understand: from dram >> L3 (buffer) >> L2 >> L1 And AMD called them infinity cache which has something to do with smart access memory
How about testing the 7800X3D with the RTX 4800? An AMD CPU with a Nvidia GPU is the most common set up for gamers. Based in the tests completed it seems the AMD CPU has a bigger impact then the AMD GPU.
I find it surprising Intel CPUs are not better than they are with Resizeable BAR/Smart Memory Access as the GPUs they developed need it to get reasonable performance claims by TH-cam videos range from 20-60% lost without it. AMD must have had some joint up thinking team at work here both in software&Hardware.
I have 4k so i presume rebar off will have less impact btw try amd system without massive cache cpus some games prefers these so much it even overcomes the negative impacts which rebar can have compared to cpus without x3d cache and results may vary also ddr4/ddr5 specifying this in your results also can help what to expect of that specific combination but i have Intel system i mean cpu and gpu and some ssds but even with Arc in one game it does not matter if rebar is on or off it does not care also going from 1440p to 4k 60fps locked gpu usage have the same average gpu usage and that's around 75-80% ...weird 😐
you need to make another test in all 4 maps in warzone, you will be surprised. on big map urzikistan BR/zombies you will get fps increase with rebar OFF and increase with rebar ON on smaller maps, i believe this works bad on big map that needs to load. thats why its so good in mw3 cuz they all tiny map.
Gotcha, I've read from a couple of viewers that the results are quite different on big map. I will likely do some tests on my AMD system (rebar in MW3 doesn't appear to be supported by Nvidia GPUs) and make a short about it 👍

Yeah basically what I saw on my AMD system too ;)
@@TechGuides i mean amazing performance and have no problems smooth powerful gaming performance! What i don't understand is those who game why do they feel the need to buy a 4090, but sleep on that 7900XTX
hey so I enable resizable BAR but it doesnt say SAM is enabled in my AMD software. Any fixes?
Thats odd... There is another way to check if rebar is enabled: www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/l5jijg/comment/gkvfpy2/?
check if it says "large memory range" in your GPU resource tab in the device manager. Still, I would probably try to re-install your GPU drivers
Nice vid ty
Strange it doesn’t show that Warzone has a rebar but when you go into the Warzone documents and open it with notepad and scroll down you will see rebar true meaning it is activated.
It only works (natively) on AMD GPUs. On Nvidia you can force it using the Nvidia Inspector tool but I would highly recommend not to. It tanks 1% lows...
@Game Guides
10900k DDR4-4400 & 7900XTX
MW3, low settings, Game Benchmark
At any resolution, with Rebar On, my cpu 1% lows and overall 1% lows drop all they way down to 130fps.
With Rebar Off the 1% lows on cpu and thus overall 1% lows jump to 240 +fps.
Rebar Off seems like the way to go for my system.
Yeah I observed exactly the same behavior on my Intel + AMD system!
Thats because you have an Intel CPU had you bought the 7800X 3D you would of received more gains from your 7900XTX since SAM allows the CPU full access to the GPU memory not just 256MB
I knew it didn’t do anything. You’re right all tech channels “turn it on you’ll lose huge fps if you don’t”😂😂😂
Not related to the video but ReBAR is a must for intel arc gpu, if there is next gen from team blue.
with re-bar on my 3080 fortnite fly like angel , and cyberpunk give +10fps ( also less ffps drops )
why i have a problem whit i9-13980HX and RTX 4080 whe i use re-bar i have very big fps drops and dont know where can be the problem laptop is rog scar 16
whit rebar on fps drops for cpu to 130fps when re-bar off fps drops are to 230 fps
I personally disabled it on my intel & nvidia systems
I need to test my Ryzen 9 5950x with my 7900 XTX to see if having REBAR disabled actually gives me better performance..
IRL scenario: so your saying if i have 32"2k monitor, a 3080ti, a b450m and a 3800x... and play cyberpunk, i should definitely update my bios and firmware and unlock this feature my current MB bios doesnt offer haha??? yes?
Thanks.
3:49 i love rtx 4800
good job
I'm using an RTX 3080 @4K with ReBAR on.
What would be a good settings to play with i have a lot of input lag on warzone? I play 1440p with my 3070ti which is 100% bottleneck. I lowered the vram to 50 with low settings but i still feel a delay. V sync is off.
Hmm not really much of an idea other than: are you in fullscreen and have nvidia reflex on (not in on + boost!)
@@TechGuides yes fullscreen exclusive with reflex ON. Do you know any good optimization tech who could help me setup my pc and bios?
why didn't you test amd cpu with nvidia graphics???
None of these games are officially supported by Nvidia. Slapping on an AMD CPU isnt gonna change that I dont see how performance should be better just because the system is AMD based...
Nice vídeo!
Thank you!
@@TechGuides
I play Apex with Intel+Nvidia and resbar ON 1440p . Today disconnect resbar and test my game.
Sorry,i'm Spanish. My english... XD
Let me know how it feels! Havent had time to check in Apex but would be interested as well :)
This is my smiley face for you: 🙂
If i have a 12700k with a 6950xt and play at 4k, what you recommend?
Cant recommend either option because I dont own a 4K screen to run 4K tests
@TechGuides you got to go 4k I can live with the fps drop for so much more detail
Thak you
Unfortunately, there are no R7 7800x3D and RTX 4080 benchmarks
I had no more time but because of the lack of driver support for ReBar by Nvidia I wouldn't expect results to be much different from Intel & Nvidia (but I didn't test it, sorry)
Thanks, that removed the microfreezes when recording games.
Disabling ReBar?
@@TechGuides Turned on. Even grow up fps in Warhammer 2 and Metro Exodus on my weak 4060ti. 😀
does resizebar ON increase input latency?
Unlikely
6:51 drastic is maybe a bit strong. Four percent? But yes, it's detrimental, sure.
Should have paired the Ryzen 4070 with your RTX 4800.
Haha
@@TechGuides Thanks for the content and info.
Why not testing amd cpu with an Nvidia gpu
One game I specially noted myself was Wreckfest on my rig, I would get around 30% to 40% improvement by using ReBar/SAM (R7 5700G + RX 6600)
heh ..love the phrase!
Not a single resource I found during my research talked about the importance of L3 cache so I'm doubtful
@@TechGuides yeah I know that too. But what I understand: from dram >> L3 (buffer) >> L2 >> L1
And AMD called them infinity cache which has something to do with smart access memory
How about testing the 7800X3D with the RTX 4800? An AMD CPU with a Nvidia GPU is the most common set up for gamers. Based in the tests completed it seems the AMD CPU has a bigger impact then the AMD GPU.
Nvidia does not actually support rebar on a single modern game (unlike I said in the video) so there is really no point
Amd nvidia: rebar is useless.
Intel arc: oke
...
It seems like Smart Access Memory is more than just Resizeable Base Address Register.
yep
The list of games is 3 years old?
Fair point (minus MW3 and CS2) but I blame Nvidia for literally not supporting rebar in any new games 😬
@@TechGuides I would have thought it was down to the game engineers to design in the ReBAR.
I will likely do some tests on my AMD system (rebar in MW3 doesn't appear to be supported by Nvidia GPUs) and make a short about it 👍
On or off i see no difference with my 3070ti, i tried config files with warzone and in the bios.
Seems like ReBAR in Warzone is not actually supported by Nvidia. Sorry for the confusion...
