Ahh, this brings back memories. First heard this song played by Bardtallica live in the Pyrenees during the Year Of Our Lord 1298.
You were reincarnated and you remember your past life.
Hahahahaha
My first encounter with Bardtallica was when they were promoting their second work, Ride Ye The Lightening, at a joust in Galstonbury. They had a different theorbo player back then, an energetic lad whose head shook to and fro. Sadly, he fell and laid as dead when the band's wagon was toppled on the king's highway. May he rest in peace.
@@smeagolmazurenko5238 Lol Ah yes i love Ride ye the Lightening xD
@@smeagolmazurenko5238 you, sir, are a legend.
Yo, the battle sounds from the medieval times at the beginning was a great touch
Very true to the original song
@@aarronwootton yes, the start us basically war screams and gunshots, would say the same
That was clever and an unexpected pleasure.
Also-was this video recorded in Scotland? That castle is magnificent.
Instead of getting hit by a landmine, dude got hit by some greek fire.
YES!! My very first thought! A lovely detail to attention!
FIREBALL! Hath taken mine sight!
Taken mine speech, taken mine hearing
Taken mine arms, taken mine legs
Taken mine soul, cast me unto the nine hells!
I recall the summer of 1196 in the court at earls castle in ye olde England, the performance was amazing. And still listen to it to this day. Great music stands the test of time. I’m 850 years old by the way. I was 24 when I saw them live.
The old guys saw all the good bands.
I was only 17 when I heard this version live at a ball during their tour of the Britains in 1196. ‘Twas the Month of Wilderness, the 17th day. I’ll be 844 this month. A great performance it was indeed.
I was burning on a stake when I heard the sweet melody emerge from the winds.
@@Drummerchick2003 seems thy have survived this ordeal. the soothing music must've summoned a magical cloud that drop water from the skies.
I recall people being actually creative with their jokes
I wonder if back in medieval time people would have liked this or if it would just be noise for them. Great cover as always
Probably would have thought it was witchcraft and enchantments.
I think if its catchy enough to the crowds they would definitely start dancing to it, but like every song ever made, its not always for everyone
They would have most likely hated it because music like this did t exist until the 17-18th century.
The major third didn’t exist until renaissance times
@@tjhooker824 but it would be innovative then
This is the kind of bard every D&D party needs
I wonder what kind of stat boost you get from Bard-Metallica.
"the fighter failed his death save. Sorry. reroll for next week"
The bard:
You have set the bar to astronomically high for bardcore videos! Gorgeous cover and such an epic location!
I've been waiting for so long for you two to do something together. PLEASE!!!!! you guys are my spirit animals lol
Good to hear from you, Heldegard, I do miss your voice! Hope you are doing fine (:
A colaboration between you two would be an absolute treat.
Gorgeous landscape to frame the music. I wonder where this video was shot? Initially I was reminded of the Alberta badlands; however, the castle is clue that this is not set in North America. Turkey perhaps? There are badlands and hoodoos like those over there.
EDIT: And I see from comments below that this video is set near the castle of Peracense in Spain.
@@fredericapanon207 channel hacked ... I don't know if Algal is aware since he is not very active on social media. =/
Can we appreciate how the cameraman went back in time to record this for us! such dedication
And sent it to Metallica for transcription
Love how it's just like a acoustic version of the song
"Now don't run too far, kids, stay where we can see you!"
When I was a young girl my family went on a tourist trip to Spain. I'd never been to Europe and I was excited to see all the old castles and forts where medieval knights had fought against fearsome dragons. Mostly we just saw gift shops and cramped busy streets. But finally my parents relented to my constant begging and took us to see Peracense.
I barely heard my dad's admonition as I ran out of the car and up the hills to the old castle walls. The stones were so old, and I believed I could feel the long-gone inhabitants of those ancient halls all around me. I kept running, so excited to see everything - and then I heard it. A gentle melody echoing down the hills. It sounded like someone playing a guitar, but a little different; this was gentler, more sonorous. I slowed down and perked my ears and followed the music.
I came around a corner and that's when I saw him. Up on a hill outside of the castle, leaning against a rock and playing on a medieval lute. He was so far away, but his music rang so close and clear in my ears. It lifted me out of this world and surrounded me with the sights and sounds of a medieval thoroughfare as ghostly visages passed me by along the rampart walls. I heard echoes of voices selling fresh fruit in the market square, and the clatter of swords against shields in the valley below. I saw banners waving atop the ramparts and elegant women dressed in the finest purple linens giggling as they shared stories about their favorite soldiers. The whole castle had come alive, brought back from the dust by the player on top of the hill.
"Sara! There you are!" The music stopped. I turned my head in the direction of my dad's voice and saw him coming my way. Hours had passed and the sun was almost setting. "I've been looking all over for you. It's time to go, your brother's been nagging me about dinner for the last hour."
I moved to follow my dad to the car, but turned back towards the hill one last time - the musician was gone. Like the banners and the ladies he'd only been a shadow of memories long forgotten by all but the stones of this castle. But when I close my eyes, I can still hear his melody ringing in my heart.
Yikes, I'd never let my kids run off on their own on a vacation anywhere in Europe, especially girls...
@@lemmingscanfly5 Perhaps in Europe there are much safer countries than in other parts of the world, such as the US, where crime rates are among the highest in the world. Perhaps also, a girl is better able than a boy to defend herself and be independent. Don't worry, your kids would be safe here. All the best.
@@lemmingscanfly5 1: This story was fiction. 2: Peracense is a bit out of the way of most tourist spots. 3: The worst places in Europe are safer than your average city in the US. But people in the US are conditioned to believe themselves superior in spite of the facts.
Ignoring the panic merchants, this was a great tale. It would make a fantastic music video for Algal.
@@pufthemajicdragon So you've told fiction twice now. The worst places in Europe are just as bad as the worst places anywhere else in the world. The US isn't proud of it's crime rates, but it's closer to (or even more safe than) EU countries than you're stating here. Given that the US is bigger than the entire European Union, and only slightly smaller than the entire continent of Europe, it would probably be more fair to compare our individual states to their individual countries. Then you would have some wins and losses on both sides. This fact remains: More people are trying to get into the US than any other place on Earth, by any means necessary. Also, REPORTED crimes per capita can be very misleading. It doesn't factor for conviction rates, type of crime, age of offenders, the laws themselves (which vary heavily), and many other factors. I'm not saying that the US is better than Europe, because I don't make opinionated blanket statements based on cherry-picked numbers. I will say that the US is a better place to be than the way you make it sound.
The kind if music you listen to while pondering the riddle of steel.
If this man could travel back in time we would have books about how he ended wars with his talent!
And lo, when the bard began to play
Many lives were spared that day.
Amen.
Lars will follow him back in time and sue him
@@gavinharrington1161 😂
Song takes me back to 1298, me and my friends just got back from a conquest, heard a local playing it. Amazing song
The fact it's got no singing never inhibits the relic sound. Great job!
The medieval battle sounds at the beginning was a perfect touch 🤘
As a person who loves both medieval music and Metallica, this is INSANE! Never thought we needed this kind of mashup but it works in the end,
This breaks my heart yet also makes me happy. My late love had "One" played at her visitation (one of her favorite songs), and she would have loved your cover (we were both D&D geeks). Thank you for this cover, it just feels so much like something she would have loved and I could see her saying it was her Bard's song in our campaigns.
♥️

maybe its a good thing i dont know
I want this intro to play every time I enter a room 🙌🏽
I've spent 15 years doing Renaissance Faires and never heard anything so grand as thy music. Grammercy.
The beginning battle sounds with steel meeting steel was a great touch that could've been forgiven if not included, but I, for one, appreciate it.
The best bard of the entire TH-cam is back, wonderful performances as always Algal! 😃
Chills and possibly wet eyes, same as the original. Bravo. Killer voice.
I audibly gasped when I saw this on my feed. Perfect as always.
This is a testament of how great Metallica really is that these “Heavy Metal” songs they’ve written can be played like this and still sound so beautiful!💯
It was during the story when young Jonathan got his Sword. Still a heartbreaking tale. Tortured in a unfair battle, had his limbs cut, his eyes loss, his voice taken… What was worse that they didn’t kill him. Yet his masters and maidens who aided him refuse to kill him.
A beautifully tragic tale. Brings a tear to my eye every time I’m regaled the tale.
The medieval war sounds at the beginning was a brilliant touch.
The music, the location, the costume, the hair, the beard, the musical instruments, everything seems to be good, gotta say I love this channel
Habláis la lengua castellana buen señor?
The intro with the sound of swords instead of guns is epic, medieval style! 🤟
WOOOOW!!!!
💯💯💯👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
The galloping on the lute was pretty sick. Medieval metal.
One of the most emotional prays ever
A Hymn for all metal heads, for me the best song Metallica ever wrote, absolutely powerful # great performance, dear Bard🎶
I'm a hardcore Metallica fan and this is my favourite song. You've done it justice. I loved it❤
Amazing!!!!!
Beautiful and nothing is lost, the emotion is still there terrifying and real.
This is so pure
Начало , конечно, вместо вертолётов - звуки сечи - это сильно! И очень изящно решена вторая , тяжёлая часть песни. Прекрасно!
Wow!
Lyrics:
I can't rememb'r aught
can't bid if 't be true this is true 'r dreameth
deep down inside i feeleth to screameth
this t'rrible silence stops me
anon yond the war is through with me
i'm waking up, i cannot seeth
yond th're's not much hath left of me
nothing is real but teen anon
holdeth mine own breath as i wisheth f'r death
oh, prithee god, waketh me
backeth in the womb, t's much too real
in pumps life yond i wilt feeleth
but can't behold f'rward to bewray
behold to the timeth at which hour i'll liveth
did feed through the tube yond sticks in me
just liketh a wartime novelty
did tie to machines yond maketh me beest
cutteth this life off from me
holdeth mine own breath as i wisheth f'r death
oh, prithee god, waketh me
anon the w'rld is gone, i'm just one
oh, god, holp me
holdeth mine own breath as i wisheth f'r death
oh, prithee god, holp me
darkness imprisoning me
all yond i seeth, absolute h'rr'r
i cannot liveth, i cannot kicketh the bucket
did trap in myself
corse, mine own holding cell
landmine hast taken mine own sight
taken mine own speech, taken mine own hearing
taken mine own arms, taken mine own forks, taken mine own soul
hath left me with life in hell!
Your early modern English is really bad, here. It's so bad it ruins the joke you were going for.
this deserves more love. only 173k views? this deserves at least 600k
That was excellent and I really loved the scenery as you're playing.
Brilliant.
I don't know how many times I've listened to this but I only just noticed the nice touch of using sword battle sounds instead of helicopters and heavy artillery for the intro.
Probably my favorite one thus far!
I remember hearing about Bardtallica back when I helped invade England with the other Norsemen.
It's very interesting that their music is still being played by young bards here in 2023.
It's even wilder that Bardtallica is still around and are now going under the name "Metallica"
Bardallica :D you nailed it ♥
One of my favorite songs.
From the war at the beginning, to the amazing scenery and get-up and of course the amazing music. You are top notch my friend!
Beautiful.
Who's still listening to this in 1023?
Relaxing sounds
This is the song that inspired me to learn to play guitar, 20 years ago. I don't often listen to songs on repeat, but this one I had on almost every day at the time.
I don't listen to Metallica anymore and it has been 2 years since I played my guitars seriously..but this song will always have a special place.
Thank you.
A version of this deep cut song I didn't know I needed. Thank you sir 🤘🏽❤️❤️

Excellent simply outstanding
You never disappoint that's for sure. Hope to one day hear you play "The Unforgiven 2" and "The Memory Remains" because then you will have played pretty much all my favourite Metallica songs :-)
Just amazing playing!
I'm shocked because I recognised one of my land's favourite castle, Peracense! Nice tune

"A prime work of art by Metallica. Full of history and emotion, that makes us feel it as real as the pain of those who actually lost a limb or part of their body, as well/or even their own soul in the war aftermath. Thank you for rekindling and reminding us what's best about music. This was an exceptional adaption and cover. ❤"
Now, in my own words: Thank you for this masterpiece of a cover, Algal.
